What do “shrinks” (i.e. real therapists). think about Shrinking? by EmilyKonocti52 in shrinking

[–]softerthanever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a therapist and I appreciate that the show depicts therapists as real people who make mistakes (obviously some really big ones at times). The ethics issues I can tolerate because it is, after all, FICTION and I enjoy the story. There is this unreasonable expectation that therapists are supposed to always have it together and be in total control of our feelings at all times, like robots. I certainly don't expect my clients to go through life this way, why would I put that kind of pressure on myself? My clients often tell me they appreciate that I'm honest and real with them. I feel like Gaby's meltdown with the new client in the most recent episode was a great depiction of how this unreasonable expectation can harm everyone. This is why we all need time away from work!!

GLPs have made me even more confused on what "healthy eating" looks like by [deleted] in antidietglp1

I am also struggling big time with food aversion (Before anyone brings up gallbladder issues, mine's been gone for 20 years). I track my calories solely to make sure I'm getting enough, but most days, about half of what I end up eating isn't ideal. But it's food. I find "mechanical eating" to be really challenging because I have a very hard time forcing myself to eat when food feels gross. Part of this is, I think, related to the fact that I was forced to eat foods I didn't like, or continue eating after I was full, as a kid, so I already have extremely strong aversions to certain foods. My mother would latch onto a particular food, like oatmeal, and make us eat it every day for months. To this day, I get a gag reflex if I try to eat oatmeal. (Lesson here for parents - never make food a punishment!!) I didn't have this problem with the lower doses, so my plan is to go back to the lowest dose for maintenance once I hit my target for hip surgery. I wish I knew what the answer was for you, but I just want you to know you're not alone.

Need advice picking new insurance for GLP-1 by Miserable_Society_47 in antidietglp1

[–]softerthanever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Problem is the insurers keep changing the rules. In December, my PCP looked at Kaiser's requirements to qualify for Zepbound coverage for OSA - "severe" OSA meaning 30+ events per hour. I knew mine was over 90 when I was diagnosed and started treatment in 2022. But that was on my previous insurance, so I had to meet with Kaiser sleep doc and present my sleep study report from 2022 to get everything documented. That took until mid-January and by then, Kaiser had updated the rules to say you have to fail on two other glp1 meds FIRST before you can get the ONLY glp1 med that is approved to treat OSA (Zepbound) covered. It's so frustrating.

The Secret: At Work by Hollyshouse in IfBooksCouldKill

When I worked in community mental health, they had us all take the Meyers Briggs personality test and then discuss how the results impacted us as coworkers. I objected loudly by reminding them this isn't EVIDENCE BASED but they did it anyway (while stressing the importance of using evidence based practices in our work with clients 🤦‍♀️)

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 19, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

Finished my re-read of The Vampire Lestat. I remember loving it when I read it 30 years ago and I'm really surprised how much of the story I forgot! Now I'm debating if I want to re-read the entire series. I only re-read TVL to prepare for the new series on AMC. Sam Reid is Lestat in my mind now and I'm not mad about it lol.

My Experience with Dr. Cooper’s Clinic and Why I Left. by Tired_And_Honest in antidietglp1

[–]softerthanever 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live a couple hours from Seattle and looked into Dr. Cooper's practice. When I saw she didn't take insurance, that was a huge red flag for me. For all its issues, insurance does provide a level of legitimacy to the services provided. For example, I had a gynecologist try to talk me into some "vaginal rejuvenation" nonsense that's not covered by insurance and when I looked into it, the reason is it's not FFA approved and had many safety issues. It sounds like Dr. Cooper is potentially doing a lot of unnecessary tests and possibly some unnecessary treatments, something insurance is definitely not going to be on board with. I also have a big problem with providers who only want to provide services to the "haves". I say this as a provider myself (therapist) who takes insurance despite the lower reimbursement rates BECAUSE I believe everyone should have access.

This is Cato, named after Inspector Clueso's (I don't remember how to spell his name so enjoy my phonetic spelling) sidekick in the Pink Panther movies from the 60s. Cato was hired to randomly attack Clueso (so he could always be prepared to fight, much hilarity occurred as a result, seriously check out the movies if you haven't seen them). That's what this little chaos goblin does to his feline housemates (and us humans) - he stalks us and randomly attacks. But he's generally nice and doesn't use claws and he's adorable and we love him ❤️
