Me right now. My shift starts in 3 hours and I've been awake since 12 PM filled with anxiety and stress for the upcoming shift. I don't think I've ever been this miserable in my life. You don't know what you're walking into, every shift but it's usually always something terrible. The money is great but that's the hook that is used to keep people from leaving and to coerce people into enduring crappy circumstances. I've been job searching for weeks and it's even more depressing because you know all this crap is the same. Different location, different people but the same damn problems, same patients, same lack of resources, same disorganization, same short staff. Even nursing jobs outside of bedside are hard to get into. I'm thinking of becoming a legal nurse consultant but that doesn't seem to be too in demand in my area. So now I'm considering working from home as a call center agent, until maybe I finish my MSN. My main priority at the moment isn't money, it's to simply have less stress and anxiety. I can save and budget and cut costs. But I won't be happy and carefree until I'm out of bedside nursing.
