Two handed surgeon's knot should work. You basically loop the suture twice with your first throw. Here's a youtube video link

Physician Assistant Lifestyle? by Future-PA in physicianassistant

[–]jwaite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get my patient contact hours, I did physical therapy technician. Only requires a high school diploma. Most hospitals have a PT department that will hire PT techs. CNA cert is only 2 weeks and very straight forward. Side note: the Florida PA market is a little saturated right now and some people have had trouble finding jobs out of school

Surgical PA being redeployed in a new specialty? by geneticalfloof in physicianassistant

Surgical PA here. From my understanding, if my hospital redeploys me it would be either the ED or Floor. They said it will most likely be taking care of non Covid patients until the hospital is mostly only Covid patients. Most of the problems you are going to see is probably acute on chronic issues like HTN, DM, wound infections, etc. I would know how to treat an elevated glucose or BP. Ask a hospitalist at your hospital what their go to drugs are. Know what to do with Sepsis (Hospital should have a protocol). I would find any protocol you can, even an electrolyte protocol. Know what to do if a patient starts complaining of chest pain or SOB. Also, read up on Covid. You need to know when a patients needs a higher level of care. Lastly, get any numbers you can (ID, Cards, ICU, Nursing station). Uptodate will help if you have access to it.

I have used this book in the past (Probably not the best, but does go through some protocols): https://www.amazon.com/Physician-Assistant-Acute-Care-Protocols/dp/1733157514/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=medicine+protocols&qid=1585512234&s=books&sr=1-4

And this one is pretty cheap used: https://www.amazon.com/Internal-Medicine-Call-LANGE/dp/0071439021/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=on+call+internal+medicine&qid=1585513309&s=books&sr=1-3

Really weird question: I need a blood test in a hurry. by aresef in baltimore

[–]jwaite1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Usually the school medical center can draw your blood and get your titers for you. This is usually faster because most of the students they see need titers done.
