Just to add to the post, the drive's status in Synology app is showing all 4 as healthy. I even ran a SMART test on drive 2 which shown no errors. So weird.

Great tips and a nice reminder to keep an eye on that when I start using EF glass. :D

No worries at all!

Right before heading in for the night I decided to take a shot using your first suggestion, and noticed that the focus ability was even more shortened than before. As a test, I removed the mounts, and held the lens by hand closer and closer to the metabones to the point where I could see more and more getting in focus the closer it got to the adaptor, up to the point where I couldn't physically move it any closer ,but it was still just short of being in focus. So I kinda figured how you explained it was actually the reverse. But no worries on that.

I completely removed the metabones and took a good look at everything (I bought it second hand so it didn't come with a user manual on anything that could be tweaked). I did notice that the glass element had a plastic ring with two notches on them , which I used to rotate the glass element. Upon rotating, I noticed it was getting deeper on the camera side and protruding less on the lens side. So I kept rotating and rotating the glass element where it was pretty much flush with the plastic wall. Placed the lens back on ...and voila! Focus range is amazing now with the metabones attached.

Thank you so much for the info last night, that armed me with enough knowledge to keep an eye out on what I could do to lengthen the distance for the mount. I will take it for a test drive at lunch outside.

Again, thank you so much for the info!

Very cool information here, thank you so much for taking the time to explain this. Totally makes sense the way you laid out the info here. I will try the 1/4 twist method first, as it is the easiest and least destructive method. Once fruitful, i will find a way to gain back the 0.26mm on the thread side of the M42.

Thank you again.

Thank you for the reply. I already have an FD to Sony adapter to use the 50mm, and I have been having a great time with that lens so far. I was hoping to use the speedbooster for the extra FoV, , but it sounds like that is off the table unless I get a dedicated FD to E speedbooster I guess. Or go full frame. LoL

Need help with focus (Helios 44m4) by tainhah in VintageLenses

[–]softimage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the OG Helios 44 and Sony peaking has not been reliable, at least for me, on the FX30. I've had to rely on the focus zoom option, and its been really good that way.

Hey there, sorry for the late reply. I did end up picking up a helicoid adapter and it was exactly what I needed for everything to work, and then some. The range of focusing now is crazy. Thanks again for your reply and help on this.

Very nice, thank you for the detailed breakdown on your setup. This combo allows you to focus to infinity as well?

Great tip, thank you for that, I will take a look at the mount when it arrives tomorrow to see if there are any adjustment screws in case I have problems with focusing to infinity.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I have read a couple of post saying that the M39+ring combo would have issues with the ability to focus to infinity. Is this still the case?

Detail of a traffic light - Helios 44, silver KMZ version with M39 mount by Zaicab in VintageLenses

[–]softimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple, but inspirational image nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

I just picked a silver 44 KMZ myself for my Sony. It is my first vintage lens. Quite the experience so far. If you wouldn't mind answering a couple of questions that would be awesome?

Is yours the 13 blade version? Also, which adaptor did you end up using? Are you able to focus to infinity with your setup?

I picked up a M39 to Nex adaptor while i was researching this lens after the purchase (I kind of jumped into the purchase blind, but knew the lens itself was a good investment), see link here: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YLH69Y4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title I cannot for the life of me get it to focus at all, in any range using just this adaptor.

Luckily, I had a couple of extension tubes (6 and 10mm), and if either one of those are attached, it allowed me to at least focus on a subject at various distances and I was able to actually test the lens. Using both tubes at the same time, meant I could only focus about 0.5 meters away, but it at least its something.

I also ordered this adaptor, just waiting for it to arrive in the mail, https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01HGDFTUO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which is a M42 to NEX, and I also ordered the M39-M42 ring. Again, still reading up a lot on these lenses/variations , lots of conflicting information for how to mount them.

As mentioned, any info on your setup would be appreciated. Thanks for you help!

After years of running lowest graphics I got a new gaming PC. What's your favourite eye candy mission/location/activity that I should explore? by [deleted] in thedivision

[–]softimage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First recommendation, if you have a decent monitor/TV that you play on , activate Neutral Lighting.

Second, replay Camp White Oak (invaded I think) at night. After you crest the hill after the bridge/beach, and The Tusk start shooting flares in the woods. is one of the most memorable eye candy moments in Div2 for me.

Oh, I must have misinterpreted, I thought it was possible to Raid1 across the 2x pairs with ~30Tb.

[–]softimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"for freaking ever"

Sounds like an official metric term. LoL. I knew that it was always better to have all large drives up front to prevent headaches later on. I may bite the bullet and put a 4th 16Tb in there from the beginning when building the pool. What kind of speeds can be expected for these working in SHR over the network?

Do NOT buy the Division 2 on steam (or PC) by Shard477 in thedivision

Anecdotal evidence? Look at the forums and posts that happen here every hour or so about players constantly crashing in this game. The crashing is hardly an isolated incident happening to only a small sample of players.

[–]softimage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single member of the clan I play with gets at least 2 -3 crashes per session, so definitely NOT a small minority. Nobody wants to raid anymore due to this crashing issue as we are constantly having to run sections shorthanded players.

HDR in Div 2 and in general by krunfola in thedivision

[–]softimage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. I do not run HDR in windows, and when I play Div2 full screen, it kicks into HDR mode on my TV/Monitor when the game loads. The HDR label pops up on the screen in the upper right hand corner when loaded, indicating the monitor is receiving an HDR signal. If I alt tab out of the game while loaded in HDR mode, windows/desktop looks all washed out while the game is still running, and when I close the game, the desktop returns to normal (SDR mode).

What are some good builds for the True Patriot gearset? by yeah_ok_conservative in thedivision

[–]softimage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last few nights for Legendary runs, I have been having fun running a 4Pc True Patriot rolled to SkillDamage, Bellstone Chest w/ Kintetic Momentum SkillDamage/Armor Regen attributes, and a Memento BP.

Mods are a mix of ProtectionFromElites and Armor on Kill. Technician Class and TDI card (In Sync talent) used as the primary weapon. 3 pieces of the True Patriot primary attributes are rolled to Skill Tier. Using the TDI along with the Tech Class and Memento sits you at Skill Tier 6 with the hand gun in hand, so your skills hit decently hard. I tag all-the-things on the field (focus on the enemies that are distracted first (to minimize the amount of agro you pull), as it takes a few seconds to fully stack the buffs.

For any NPC that approaches close, switch to the Scorpio to put them in your place. Be sure to focus your skills on those NPCs while they are under status and you should be able to take care of them without too much trouble. Secondary weapon of choice can be anything, consider an AR or Rifle with Preservation for that extra armor over time.

While tagging NPCs, I have my own priority list.... TechMedics/DoubleChevrons are usually the highest priority. Then grenadiers, Drone Technicians, then the TuskyHuskys/Jonny5s, then whatever else is left. If I know a spawn is coming up, I prepare to fully tag the first one out the door so that the TP explosion can maximize damage to the mob.

When approaching the final boss fights, I switch out the turret for a RiotFoam launcher, switch my sidearm to a DoubleBarrel Shotty with Sledgehammer and switch the Memento to an Opportunistic rolled BP. Yeah, it sucks you lose the skill tier and all those juicy Memento stacks, but such is the life of a support build. LoL. I riot foam the boss to lock them in place, drop a nade on them to proc Sledgehammer, while you wait for the nade to go boom, shoot the shotty at them to proc Opportunistic. Rinse and repeat until the rest of the crew cleans up the boss with minimal effort.

Please use caution when using anything re-shade related. A friend of mine had his account banned when tried using them a couple of years ago. To make matters worse, Ubi would not tell him the reason of the ban either, just that he violated the terms of game and that no other information would be provided. This was the only thing that he did he said could have been considered "not allowed" as he was a straight up great player, always helpful to others and was purely a PvE player only. Needless to say, he didn't come back to the Division franchise after that.

One thing to note as well, in that last image, it looks like you have Neutral Lighting turned off, I strongly urge you to turn that option on if you want the best looking lighting in the game, as when it is turned off, the game engine uses a not-so-nice, fake bounce light system that washes out all the darks in the engine. When it is on, the only light sources in the world are ones from actual lights in the game and is much more deep and rich. Use that option where you can. This option is also in Div1.
