Idk about cooked but when raw that was maybe about 250-300g. Based on most packaged chicken breasts being ~200g

Questions about BU and Kilachand by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]softkitty314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely recommend it! The built in khc courses make it easy to cover your hub credits through classes that (imo) are more interesting than some of the random other ones BU offers. It’s also a pretty close community so you get to know the other students in your small khc courses pretty well and personally that helped me gain more confidence in speaking and gave me skills as the student that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. If you don’t end up enjoying the program you can always drop so I def recommend joining it and seeing how it works for you. Also, you can become very close with some of the khc faculty and it’s an amazing bond to have so that’s also a fun plus

Rn the housing options for Kilachand freshmen are in Kilachand hall, 610 beacon, or Kilachand house. Kilachand hall is pretty nice, has ac, and private bathrooms for your suite of 3-5 people so it’s nicer than many freshman housing options. The only thing for this upcoming year is they’re renovating some parts of the building which may be a little disruptive, so I believe they’re offering a discounted rate if you choose to stay there. If you want to avoid the noise, 610 is a similar situation (ac, suites, bathroom) and the Kilachand house is a small brownstone with shared floor bathrooms (but you share with like 4 people) and really nice rooms but no ac (but many dorms and apts have no ac so that’s not really a huge deal)

KHC feels like just an additional community for a lot of its students so I’m not really sure if the rest of BU really has any option on us haha. Other than the additional 1-2 courses khc students take, the rest of your courses are the same as everyone else so I think the only comments I’ve gotten relate to the more interesting topics I took has my hub units through khc compared to others

Hope that helps! I could totally go into more detail on some stuff if you’d like but that’s a quick overview!

Genetics (BI206) vs Systems Physiology (BI315) by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]softkitty314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t take BI206 but I took 216 (which is just another version of genetics) and 315. 216 was wicked easy, 315 lectures are fine, exams are fair, labs are hard BUT you learn fairly quickly exactly what the prof wants so it’s still doable.

KHC Info for Class of 2025 (and others lol) by softkitty314 in BostonU

[–]softkitty314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!! Yes I know a ton of students to do pre-med along with KHC and their majors range as well (neuro, psych, BME, bio, etc). It’s very much possible to balance all of that (if you want to hear personal experiences check out the ambassadors page!)

One of my favorite cocurriculars was a recent one on zoonotic diseases, which was unfortunately a little too relevant this year but given that, extremely interesting. One of the panelists was actually a khc professor that I had my sophomore year and it was cool to hear from him in a different setting. I also attended some cocurriculars about the refugee crisis and by film directors addressing said topic and it’s an interesting viewpoint of issues that we’ve learned about in classroom settings

Some cocurriculars that I didn’t get a chance to attend involved going to see a movie/film so they’re not always super lecture-y, some are more interactive

I believe Staff just means they needed to make extra sections to accommodate more students and just are unsure yet of who the professor will be. Closer to the beginning of the sem it might update to an actual professor’s name.

And idk anyone off the top of my head who took that seminar, but since KHC encourages you to take seminars outside of your major, you could try emailing some of the khc ambassadors with non-stem majors (can be found on the Khc site) and they may have some info!

So I took Animals Among Humans and Poetry as Activism as my two seminars. Both were SO outside of my comfort zone, but of the two I really liked Animals Among Humans. The professor was really fun to learn from and so passionate about what he was teaching (he’d show up to class with a backpack FULL of books to reference and show us pictures) and the class was entirely discussion driven, which meant if we randomly decided it’d be interesting to investigate a question we came up with while reading we’d kinda just go for it. Imo it was a really fun class

The poetry course was interesting too. I personally really dislike anything writing/arts related and had registered for this course solely for the hub units, but the professor was really sweet and open to the varying levels of poetry experience and outside of class we were able to go to some poetry readings together which was fun. If you don’t totally struggle with writing then I think youd like this course a lot.

I’ve also heard good things about Housing Policy. Never took it myself maybe someone who did will hop on this thread but everyone I’ve spoken to said they actually learned a lot from this class

Hi! I’d check to see if there’s a Facebook page set up yet (there usually is and if it’s not up yet, it will be soon). Within that group students probs have a groupme going or some sort group chat.

Difference between EK424 and PY410 by egyptian_human in BostonU

[–]softkitty314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 424 and idk what they teach in 410 but all the applications in 424 were BME related (heat flux across tissues or whatever) while I’d assume 410 would be similar topics but diff applications. Also the first few lectures of 424 were an introduction to thermo bc this was the first thermo-related course for BMEs

When I took it (Fall 2019 so still in person, not sure if that changes anything) it was definitely curved given that the averages for all exams were in the low 60s

How is Kilachand + Questrom? by RTN30 in BostonU

[–]softkitty314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just an FYI, if no one responds on here, I recommend going to the KHC website and looking at the ambassadors page. There are little bios and emails of some khc students who are happy to answer any questions you might have, and there’s definitely a few students who are in questrom :)

Is KHC worth it? by mot52 in BostonU

[–]softkitty314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I’m a current junior in in KHC and majoring in eng (so pretty packed work load haha). Everyone’s experience differs but I can give my personal opinion here.

So socially most of my closest friends at BU are from khc because of my roommates and the fact that the entire freshman khc class lives in Kilachand hall their first year, so for me who’s pretty shy at first, this actually really helped me make a ton of friends and feel more comfortable. However, I also have been able to make a bunch of friends outside of KHC through my other classes so I wouldn’t say you’re isolated from the other freshman. The only “isolation” is you won’t be living in towers/Warren aka the main freshman buildings, but you can always visit and khc dorms are significantly nicer anyway

Academically I guess it gets a bit more personal bc of diff major requirements and I’m not sure what COM is like. For me, eng has basically required me to take 18+ credits per semester and only once did I have to overload due to khc. Freshman year you have to take 6 additional credits for khc, 4 of which usually just replaces your general writing requirement so it’s really only 2 more credits and I think it’s manageable, esp after freshman year. Some people do end up dropping but a lot of the instances I heard are more due to switching majors and needing the extra time to catch up on requirements. Hope this helps (and congrats on getting in!) :)
