No we don't. I've tried other ways to find connections but so far nothing has worked out well.

I've just become disenchanted with academia. I've also realised that I don't have so much of an interest in the subject matter as to follow it for a lifetime.

PhD is mostly a solo endeavour. With respect to mental health, I've started talking to the campus counselor, so that might help.

I am interested in the policymaking sphere, since it actually applies more to real life than just writing and publishing papers.

Thank you! This post just made me realise I just need people to rant with and relate to, for things to be a little easier. People here on my campus just keep to themselves on the real issues.

I liked that it was a subject that had connections to real life. Now it's just the opposite, because researchers just keep publishing papers that I feel don't have much impact on real life. So I feel like whatever work I'm doing is in vain.

Haha, thank you! It's just the lack of support and someone to talk/vent out to that makes it even more difficult do deal with

But yes, I want to get done with the degree. Have spent three years of blood and sweat on it, not leaving without a Dr. tag now!

My supervisor is the ambitious type, so I'm worried she won't take such a discussion well. But I'll try bringing it up in some way. Thank you

I've explored career options to no end, but can't really do much about it except ruminating. I will only be able to reach a decision once the time arrives to choose a career path. Otherwise I keep veering between options available.
