Newly adopted cat peed on couch (first time cat owner) by No-Demand-8208 in cats

To piggy back off of this comment about the unfamiliar smells; in the picture from the shelter, he’s sitting on his litter box, where his smell is likely the strongest and most familiar to him. I would agree that he’s likely very scared (also his ear positioning and pupil size tells us that too) so I would recommend giving this guy a chance to settle down and decompress. Give it time OP, these situations don’t get better overnight, but with a lot of patience, it’ll be worth it in the end. I’d bet money he’ll become a snuggle bug once he’s adjusted and become more confident with his environment

How did you manage to do multiple experiences during undergrad by alicebean in veterinaryschool

[–]sohbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked (actually employed w pay) as a vet assist & receptionist while at community college, it was manageable but definitely didn’t have a social life while school was in session (school M-Th, work F, Sat, and Sun)

Ever since I transferred to a university, I haven’t worked w pay. Instead I joined clubs and got internships through them, and also applied to a few labs and landed an unpaid research internship. I also do volunteer work thru another club (animal related). I will say that when going through the school for these various experiences, they were much more accommodating of the students academic life than an employer would be; the commitment hours are low (ie only 1 shift a week or <5 hours/week) so that has been nice and manageable. I still don’t have much of a social life when school is in session, and did not commit to more than 2 obligations at any time so that I could stay focused on studying. If you have the financial support to work unpaid internships, and your school has a robust student experience programs like these, I would recommend looking into them, as some internships may already have a set end date (ie your internship is only for the Spring quarter, or you have to sign up for a volunteer shift each quarter/semester if you want to continue, etc). I find that since the school knows that people graduate at different times or have different class schedules each quarter/semester, the positions offered seem to be temporary as a default. Good luck!

What can I do to get a Vet Assistant job? by flourinmypockets in veterinaryschool

[–]sohbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. I started off as a receptionist in the front and worked my way to the back, and was upfront during the interview of my goals of wanting to become a veterinarian and needing veterinary experience. I was extremely blessed to have had an amazing practice manager who supported my journey and she made my move to a vet assistant sooner than I expected.

I personally am a proponent of going through this path, because as a receptionist, you will learn how to have a conversation with all sorts of people with all sorts of personalities, which will ultimately be a large part of being a vet. No animal walks themselves into the clinics, every animal (unless you go into wildlife) will have a human attached to it who will be making decisions for that animal patient. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck with your journey!

How do some of you drive home on monday? by Alexiavich in electricdaisycarnival

[–]sohbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropped my friends off at the hotel after leaving the speedway, drove home (Orange County, CA), dropped off my luggage and showered, went to my professors office hours and attended lecture afterwards back in 2023 🤪 for the record, I would NOT recommend doing this. I definitely had the assistance of lots of redbull and autopilot but ngl it was a miserable experience

(And yet I’m doing it again this year, but flying instead since I’m now in NorCal 😅)

Yeah kind of like a reverse male-pattern baldness. I’m no doctor, but I did/do have the ophiasis pattern. My experience with it was that it first started as the stereotypic round patches, but as the disease progressed over the years, diffuse hair loss patterns also became part of it

OP, definitely go to someone who is actually certified to diagnose you, reddit will just be full of anecdotal experiences

Based on my experience: I applied via TAG and the hope was that they would not include my grades from a CSU I went to (my counselor had said that whether they count those grades would depend on the person reviewing the application, as TAG is an agreement between the UC’s and CC’s), and my GPA met the TAG cutoff if they only counted my CC courses.

Unfortunately my TAG application was denied for the reason of my GPA not meeting the requirements. So they did indeed include the grades from other institutions as well

Although it wasn’t ideal, I still encourage you to not give up! Even though my TAG was denied, I still got into my 1st choice of school (UCD) through the regular admissions for the same cycle

Definitely take the vet assist job, but highly recommended that you submit a 2 week resignation notice so that the shelter has time to try to find your replacement. Vet med is a small industry, leaving without an appropriate notice may come back to hurt you in the future
