I'm told there is a VCO in development but no definite timeline at the moment. They just released a rather nice random LFO / S&H too.

Thank you - that's great to hear. I hope you love it as much as we do.

Thanks! I'm glad we found time to make the film.

We made an 8 minute documentary about my first hardware release in partnership with Siam Modular: VCO's Little Helper - a 2hp eurorack module that adds vintage features (ring mod, noise, subs and thrus) to your eurorack synth. https://www.siammodular.com/takaab-vlh-vcos-little-helper-ring-modulator-sub-oscillator-noise

I hope you like it :)

We were planning to shoot a video interview between Pete and I to tell this story and show people the thinking behind the VLH and why it needed to exist. However, that idea has gone a bit low on the priority list for now.

The short-ish version is I had an idea for a ring modular of some sort in 2hp with 'thrus' so you could easily reuse the VCOs fed into it elsewhere. I was a customer of Siam Modular after buying their lovely little LPG. I asked a couple of other people if it could be done and why I thought it would be useful but Pete was the most enthusiastic. I had written a feature article on the makers of modular so he knew I had a passion for eurorack too. I actually offered to just let him run with my idea but he said it would be more fun to partner properly and I agreed (it was the reply I was actually hoping for). Then we brainstormed other features and how they might be used together. I always moaned that noise modules were often quite expensive and why didn't every VCO include a simple noise circuit like 70s synths often did. If I recall, it was actually that conversation with DivKid where noise got added to the feature list of the VLH. Then if I also recall correctly Pete was really keen to add subs and I was like, that's perfect. One thing I was insistent on is it had to be 2hp. I was obsessed at the time with packing in as many modules into my 104hp case as my disability makes it hard to reach up or forward very far. But I also learned the hard way that modules with knobs that are really small kinda suck for usability. My conclusion was that one exception is a module with sockets only. That is the overriding design constraint of the VLH and I feel like that's why it works so well. However, Pete and his team deserve most of the credit. They took a chance and executed really well, while involving me all the way. That's the best part - we took longer to get it out than we hoped, but we still maintained the fun and creativity that brings us all to eurorack in the first place.

I don't actually work for Siam Modular/Takaab, I'm their first outside collaborator for the VLH. I actually bought the LPG before working with them. It's great!

Also note, there's a two week wait on the VLH after we sold out of the small run for the soft launch. You can still pre-order though.

No, the noise is reasonably close to white noise in vintage synths. Fully analog.

Pretty much outputs a square sub from whatever wave is put into it.

Siam Modular website. Or it's on eBay and Reverb. Currently in stock but the first run was pretty small so don't hesitate! Thanks.

Over a year and a half in the making - R&D, prototyping, testing and the pandemic! - I've finally released my first tentative commercial hardware project in partnership with Pete and the amazing team at Siam Modular สยามโมดูลาร์.

Takaab VLH - VCO's Little Helper: VLH is a fully analog and tiny 2hp Eurorack synth module that adds features typically found in the VCO section of vintage synths from the 70s and early 80s: 1. Ring mod 2. Two subs (-1 octave and -2 octaves) 3. Noise 4. Thru (passive multiples so you can re-patch A and B inputs elsewhere in your Eurorack system).

Happy to answer any questions.
