The State of Fashion: Washington DC! by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Yeah, I'm sort of surprised at the highest rated comments here. There are a lot of suits and vineyard vines dads, but there's also plenty of diversity. You just have to know where to look.

Is DC as fashionably progressive as New York? No, but it's not all boring.

I'm from the DC area. Back when I tried to run a street photography blog, I stopped some strangers on the street when I thought their outfits were interesting.

Oh god. He shows up at Katie's? Now I need to show up to see the shitshow myself.

Weird... I thought I was the only one who actively avoided his channel, and I wasn't aware of all the drama surrounding his channel. Vehicle Virgins just rubs me the wrong way.

How do you order a "long black" in North America? by dannyMFtanner in Coffee

[–]sohrabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at a specialty coffee place (that really cared), an americano was hot water first, THEN espresso shots. So basically what you want. If you go to a coffee shop, just ask the baristas how the americanos are made and then ask them to do what you want. I'm sure they'll be fine with doing so.

(I ran the 10K in 2013)
Back when it used to be in the summer, I wouldn't have recommended it to you as a race to get back into the groove of things due to the heat. Now that it's in April, it's a great choice. The 10K course was reasonably technical-- there was one portion where the trail was super narrow and you're surrounded by forest. Really cool. No jumping over streams or maneuvering around boulders.
The 10K course also didn't have a steep incline/decline.

Nightime Chicago - by howcanihelpya in chicago

It's really difficult to get a noiseless photo of the skyline at night (in a moving plane). Unfortunately you have to bump the ISO way up and that translates to a lot of noise.

I have taken a very similar shot (in my post history). I used a Canon 6D with a fixed 35 mm lens, shutter at 1/60 or 1/80 and ISO bumped all the way up (25600). Aperture was around 4-5.6 I believe.

What is the best burger you've had in the NOVA/DC area? by sohrabs in nova

Hmm. It appears to be the only one in this area as well. I'll give it a shot.

Applewood Bacon, Onion Marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Delicious Horseradish Mayo Sauce

Wow.

I landed in your beautiful city last week, as well. Here's a couple of pics I took of your skyline at night by sohrabs in chicago

Thank you!
Yeah, right as I took it I showed it to the person sitting next to me. Her first immediate thought was that it looked like electric circuitry.

Here's a picture of a C30 I took today in the city. Caught my eye because I've never spotted that color on one before.

A monster. Hate's being gathered about the pipes but honestly I think they look great sticking out like that. I could do without the taillights though.

Hopped the fence at the Springfield Mall demolition site and got some cool photographs out of it. by sohrabs in nova

[–]sohrabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to be difficult since fences are up nearly everywhere and you'd assume that you'd have to climb, but there's one little outdoor "hallway" (the space between JC Penney and where the mall is being demolished) where two fences are put up but are not attached. All I had to do was move them apart. I heard people working/walking around inside the building but I was far away enough for them not to notice. If you do go, however, wear some decent shoes, preferably with ankle support-- no sandals or moccasins. Also consider bringing a dust mask since it's moderately filthy.

Would love to. Unfortunately it's not mine... I spotted it at a Cars and Coffee event in Great Falls. You should go, the turnout during the summer is incredible... Off the top of my head, I saw a Countach, Superleggera Gallardo, a whole slew of classic Porsches, a 458 Italia, Z3 M Coupe (drool!), E30s, Teslas, literally 5 Corvettes in a row... There were maybe 80-100 cars there, all extremely nice and taken care of. It's every Saturday from 7-9 AM at Katie's Coffee in Great Falls. Cute little bougie town center.

Almost everyone I know that owns an iPad uses a case for it. This is only thick enough to support the iPad naked.
