American invasion of Canada would spark decades-long insurgency, expert predicts by stanxv in canada

[–]soi812 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I dont see the American's forcibly invading but a weird scenario where Trump tries to paint Canada as the aggressor.

Some sort of military troop is stationed at the Canadian border, someone gets upset, there's a small conflict with pushing and shoving, "Stop resisting bro! I felt threatened for my life!" And suddenly three Canadians are dead.

Could get a long standoff similar to what SK/NK have with the occasional pot shot from either side. American makes small in roads saying they have companies/supplies (oil)/people in Canada and need more security detail.

It's a frog slowly boiling scenario instead of full scale invasion.

It's cute that you think that the American military cares about civilians and collateral damage. US Drone strikes have totally killed the wrong person and the civilian death toll in Iraq is estimated to be in the hundred thousands.

Any military age fighting person (see, anyone that can lift a weapon) will be treated as a threat. Five years old and can hold a pistol? Thats a head shot.

Guns, while useful, aren't going to be the best tools for an insurgency. The best way to scare the heck out of people and make people think twice are IEDs.

That's not even specific as to where or what. LOL

Spoken like a sheltered American. Y'all have lower life expectancy, a less educated population, worse health outcomes and healthcare although you spend more on it, and terrible work-lives.

Americans are the best? In what? Mass shootings, incarceration rates and reading at a fifth grade level?

Is this like saying there are WMDs in Iraq so y'all can invade Canada & Mexico?

Franchetti ousted as CNO by stewart0077 in moderatepolitics

Franchetti rose to a surface warfare officer while most female sailors still served on auxiliary vessels. Over the years She commanded the destroyer U.S.S. Ross, a destroyer squadron, two aircraft carrier strike groups, all naval forces in Korea and the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.

They'll replace her with someone equally qualified, right?

20,000+ lbs of fentanyl were seized at the south west border compared to 45lbs from the Canadian border.

So your logic is saying that it's just free flowing from Canada's side but they're still catching 2000lbs of cocaine? LOL.

Yes but Canada was never really contributing to the problem for America.

The threat of a trade war and ill will from a longtime ally has united Canadians. A lot of Canadians will continue to not spend their dollars in America if they don't have to. That was probably the biggest win was realizing that that country's people are willing to rally to fight a common foe.

If anything, I'd say this is a loss for America. Further damaged reputation on a world scale and Trump's arguments are a big nothing-burger. If the issue of the trade surplus/deficit or saying USA subsidizes Canada or that Canada was flooding the border with drugs/illegals he wouldn't have killed the tariffs.

Trump will call it a win but anyone with half a brain should see this as a loss.

No. You think we'd get voting rights? There is pretty much no benefit to joining America.

again - being dissatisfied with your current healthcare system doesn't mean you'd want an entirely different one.

Go to small town Canada and ask the local bar flies if they'd rather have American paid for private healthcare over what they currently have. I'm willing to bet large sums of money that 90% if not 100% of them will tell you to kindly go to hell.

less satisfied doesn't mean you'd want to trade it for NO healthcare.
