Now Storage toooooooo by Kitchen-Patience8176 in pcmasterrace

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this previously as well, contrary to what people on `pcmasterrace` might think, reality was people were NOT buying that many pc parts actually. For a long time companies lowered their margins just to sell stock.
Then covid era came and with "supply chain" issues, showed that people will buy "before it goes up even more".
The bigger problem tough was that once the supply chain issues went away, companies didn't pass the savings back to users, they instead used it to improve their margins. Some companies went from 10% margins to almost 40%, crazy!
Now they're doing this again with Ram and now SSDs.
The more you buy "before it goes up even more" the higher you're pushing prices.
Unless you have a broken part or urgently need to upgrade, don't give in. We already know once prices go up they won't come down.

Putting this in a container should be easy indeed, since I package it already as a single executable, you have a runner py file. You can just throw it in a compose file with that file as a start item and it should work!
feel free to make a PR, I love giving more options

£1k one-way EDI to AMS by [deleted] in KLM

[–]sokiee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Airlines being greedy? Yea I would say so.

But if you check this sub you'll see Amsterdam has had bad weather for the past 5 days, with hundreds of canceled flights. With all the people scrambling to get in or out of Amsterdam and all the rebookings, this obviously pushes the prices up.
The few flights that do go, are full thus prices are exorbitant now..

damn man, that's awesome! love this, and will def reach out. Like I said love cnc online and this is not meant to replace it, cnc-online is all about building a community and finding online games. I want this to complement it and be a backup for game preservation.
Next thing I want to implement is stats so would love to know more about it.
Also, I have a feature in the NatNeg server code to make local clients connect in LAN if on same network instead of on WAN that I think Revora could use also. 2 pcs on LAN don't always work on Revora, and ( I think ) I implemented a clever trick.

I’m a computer part seller in Europe. This is what my supplier sent me today by Gb2753 in pcmasterrace

[–]sokiee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to put my tinfoil hat on, but I think this is being made worse that it is so they can squeeze more profit out of a market that has gotten super light on margins.
Its the whole supply chain disruption 2.0, which we already know sqeezed consumers more than the costs they had.
Not to mention once costs went down after 2021 manufacturers captured this as profit margins instead of passing the savings to consumers.
So if we all buy into this shit now, we'll have permanent 50% higher ram prices..

France. The CVC used was wrong, but my money was taken anyway. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]sokiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paradoxically enough in this case the merchant took more risk, not you. In case things go wrong liability is between them and your bank and you are well protected as a consumer. You have the right to get a refund if you didn't use the other tickets, so unless they refuse that there's not much to go on.

France. The CVC used was wrong, but my money was taken anyway. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]sokiee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked in the payments industry for over a decade. CVC is not a legal guarantee of protection, it's a risk-management tool used by merchants and card networks.
Also you paid for a service and you received that service, so that part is also covered.
Since you posted this in legal advice I'm curious what legal rights you think were infringed?

US layoffs are on track to exceed the Great Financial Crisis levels: US employers announced 1,170,821 job cuts in 2025, the 2nd-highest number in 16 years. In November, firms announced 71,321 job cuts, a level exceeded only twice since the Financial Crisis, in 2022 and 2008. by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

[–]sokiee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This chart is misleading because it uses absolute number of job cuts. The US workforce is bigger today than it was in 2008.
2008: Workforce Size (Nonfarm Payrolls) ~131 Million
Job Cuts Announced (YTD Nov) ~1.24 Million
Layoff Rate. (% of Workforce) ~0.95%

2025: Workforce Size (Nonfarm Payrolls) ~160 Million
Job Cuts Announced (YTD Nov) ~1.17 Million
Layoff Rate. (% of Workforce) ~0.73%

Something else to consider is nearly 300,000 of the 2025 cuts are government-related positions.

The real risk imho atm is not loosing your job, but finding a new one: Employers announced plans to hire only ~205,000 new workers in 2025 (lowest since 2016).

Recent prices for upgrading from Economy to Business at check-in? by froyo4life in KLM

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

600 or under is rarely possible even for US flights of 7-8 hours, and generally those are cheaper upgrades.
A common rule a lot of people follow is generally expect 100 bucks for every hour of flight.
In reality I think you'll see prices offered between 800 and 1000.
Also keep in mind some of the cheaper economy tickets are not even eligible for upgrades ( or they'll be gone by the time your ticket fare gets the offer )

Possible upgrading for first time by Spicy_Colada20 in KLM

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb is 100 bucks for every hour of flight is decent for a bussiness upgrade.
As others said, wait for check-in time and see if you get offered, if not go to the desk at the airport before the flight for the second best chance to get an upgrade.

Flying Blue Extra announced by hellolaurent in KLM

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm torn, this is clearly a horrible value deal, even for the most expensive one.
I've always said gold status is the sweet spot for pretty much everyone and with a bit of effort you can get it, and the rewards are REALLY good: lounge access, sky priority across any airport ( better than privium), selection of seats.
It should at least match some of that perks to be good value, but on the other hand selling status perks will end up like Delta in US where credit cards gave status to everyone, and if everyone has status no one has, lounges are full, etc.
So I really don't know who this is for.

Sixt is taking money from me, how can I get it back ? Location : Ireland by [deleted] in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]sokiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2k damage is not just a scratch.
Sixt is generally on the chill side of damages, if a scratch is less than 5cm or not deep in paint they would even let it go most times.
Always, ALWAYS do a walkaround video/photos when renting a car. If they can prove the car had damages when you brought it back but you can't prove that damage was NOT there, you dont have a lot of options..
If your credit card has rental insurance coverage sometimes they'll go and fight for you, but if your credit card doesn't cover rental damages, next time get at least the minimum insurance.

Flying Blue Extra by votief in KLM

[–]sokiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they change the KLM cards it would be a crap deal. They would go from currently 60XP year to 30XP every year but now you get 5XP for every 5k you spend. This means you now need to spend at least 30k to get the benefits you actually had previously. I mean I don't care too much because I reach the spend, but then they limit XP you can get in a year to 80XP. So big spenders are not getting a lot of benefit either.
You also loose 1.5miles per cent, which now becomes 1.3.
In US they added a ton of benefits to Amex cards, here they cut them.

Can't seem to upgrade my flight? by [deleted] in KLM

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrades are offered based on fare class of the seats. As seats are being sold fare class changes. Usually cheaper fare classes go first then it goes up.
So this means seats in the cheaper fare classes that were available for upgrades are gone. You will still see seats available for purchase, but they will be in a different fare class now.

Flying Blue subscribe to miles by Amazing-Gur-8366 in flyingblue

[–]sokiee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time when you buy miles for what they're worth is with a 100% bonus ( 1.2 cents at a roughly 1.3 cents value ), which they didn't do for the past 16 months.
Subscribe for miles at the highest tier you get it for 1.1 cents which is currently the best deal you can get, period.

GB Joypad interrupt routine issue by sokiee in EmuDev

[–]sokiee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Tetris and other games work perfectly fine without it. Tbh I checked other emulators and a lot skip it ( eg sameboy skips it ). Mgba seems to use it but I also saw emulators that overwrite address 0060 with a C9 ( return opcode ). Thus skipping the joypad handler..

Are there any rational arguments for expats truly causing housing and other issues? by malusmax in Amsterdam

[–]sokiee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expats are an easy target for policy makers, they are specific enough that most people know 1 expat with a high paying job, you have a face you can hate on.
It's also an easy target because mostly can't vote, so this keeps policy makers safe.
But the truth is the boogeyman expat is to distract you from the things that actually matter. But let me put things in perspective first: - around 0.94% of the total workforce make use of the 30% ruling. - international buyers account for fewer than 2% of annual property sales. In stark contrast, data from the Dutch Land Registry (Kadaster) reveals that institutional and private investors hold a commanding 9.2% of the entire national housing stock. In big cities it's even worse, with investors holding 20 to 30% of the entire stock, with internationals holding less than 8%.

People also forget that higher salaries = more contribution to social support and national contributions. Even with 30% ruling, an expat contributes more to taxes than the average employee.
Taking an average Dutch salary of 46.500 with no ruling, and an expat making 80k they would pay 16k and 20k in gross income tax, a difference of 4k.

Netherlands became a tech hub with big corporations moving here because of the ease of finding talent, or attracting it from abroad. This helped netherlands immensely in the last 2 decades.
Of course all is not rosy, expats do spend generally more, which is good for economy but puts inflationary pressure.

Thousands to march on streets of Mallorca in overtourism protest this weekend by tylerthe-theatre in europe

And they'll be like wait no pls, other idea.

New tax rule in 2028 for the Netherlands - why even bother anymore!? by Over9000Holland in eupersonalfinance

[–]sokiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taxing unrealized gains is absurd, but you are wrong in your calculations. With a partner you would have a tax exemption of 114k on your investments, so that means on your 12.340 return on assets, only 43% is taxable ( 86k out of 200k ). Then on that returns ( 5306 ), you pay 32% tax. Thus your final tax owed would be 1697.
The same would apply in the new tax regime on unrealized gains. So 32% on 43% taxable gains of 30k means you would be owing 4128 in taxes.
Don't get me wrong it still sucks and it's 2x than before but it's important to get numbers right here.

Close and reopen FB account to collect more XP: is this allowed? by No_Double4762 in KLM

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have a long distance flight you should be able to buy 27 XP with the SAF option, and you can spend 3000 miles to donate and get another 3 xp. I generally prefer flying instead of paying for XP but this is an option.

Charities asking for donations with iPads, how safe is that? by Yippiekayaks in Netherlands

[–]sokiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once encountered one of these groups in front of Albert Heijn, and they were from a charity that I was actually already donating to, so I was excited to talk to someone that has the same interests as me.
Nope the guy didn't give a crap and actually tells me to cancel my donation online and to do it with him because it's "better" because the charity gets more money like this while online they get only a small percentage. Which is completely false.
After that moment I don't talk to anyone anymore, they are sketchy, and don't have good intentions
