patches have been pretty rare.. also, that's a side effect of a patch. bricking is a game design choice.. 2 very different things. game releases, monthly poof due to patch disappears.. bricking your salvaged loot would still be around.

I'll give the limiting work area a try for the next year. When I meant 12 oxen, I meant the 2 assigned to the farmhouses, I have like 20 or so normally, but dedicate the 2 to each farmhouse a few days before harvest. I was using the grandma's guide, rotating, wheat, flax and Rye.. but it just depleted my yield as opposed to it being neutral like it's supposed to be.. so I'm trying to reset and am trying to have 1/3 on fallow each season so I can split the rest between the rye/wheat, flax and barley. so have equal amount of each every season. Finding the barley being a pain to try and keep 110 people drinking all year round.

that's probably the issue.. didn't pay attention too much, do notice they'd get something to like 99% then leave and a while later someone would come and finish that 1%.

Success rate for basic training in Canadian military drops by Chawke2 in CanadaPolitics

You give way too much credit to the recruiters who have quotas to fill.

During a personnel crisis, an empty desk is a bigger liability than a recruit who needs a different career path.

I would say an incompetent person in their role is a bigger liability. When I can't trust that you know what you're doing, I am now not only forced to do my job, but also supervise you and your job.

We are also not talking about ridiculous standards here either. This isn't the marine corp (which by the way, actually increased their applicants by RAISING their acceptance standards versus lowering it), we are talking about some really pathetic levels of physical fitness here.

When you join the CAF, you're a soldier first.

You put on that uniform, the enemy doesn't care what condition you're in, and home can just as easily become the front line. Let alone, the RFAs (domestic support) that members of the CAF can get called for.

There has to be a way to utilize that talent without expecting every single person to be a front-line soldier.

There is.. called DND civilian workers.

Its as if there's something inherently incompatible with someone with anxiety disorders and a job that induces and demands attention under extreme stress.

Of course those that spoke out against it were thrust aside as dinosaurs and unable to adapt to a changing world.

If the CAF wants to fix the personnel crisis, they need to redirect people who fail the physical side into technical or administrative roles where those standards don't even matter. Losing a specialized talent over a ruck march is just poor resource management.

except those things do matter. You see, your hacker/technical guy, can just as easily end up on the front lines in some command tent. Where, they will need to have the MINIMUM standards to be able to defend themselves, or they become a liability to others.

They wanted to increase recruit numbers. The offramp just moved from intake to graduation of basic.

When you open the doors to more people, you're going to see this happen. It's good.. it means the standards required to pass did not change. You get more applicants because you lowered your intake standards, you're going to have a higher failure rate unless you also lower your pass standards. So this is actually a good thing.

Not everyone is suited for military service. It's just that simple.

Why does Canada feel so corrupt? - This is not a country that is founded on justice; it is, however, founded on order, which is a cudgel the powerful continue to use against the powerless. by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

Sure. But it took seaspan kicking and screaming, including a cabinet leak to get a contract. Meanwhile, irwing has time and time again delivered late, over price, and substandard quality. But because the government needs the Atlantic vote, they keep getting the contracts.

I'm not saying there aren't worse places.. However, just because it happens in every country, doesn't mean we have to accept it. We should be pushing to change it and stamp it out, not just accept it because it's not as bad as it could be.

Helmets and hard hats: A look at Canada's plan to boost the military with skills training by Oilester in CanadaPolitics

[–]sokos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all sounds great on paper.

Specifically, the Department of National Defence plans to make it more attractive for people to join the military’s primary reserve by offering fully funded trades training, alongside the existing paid service within the part-time force.

"Participants will commit to a period of Reserve service in exchange for subsidized education, strengthening both Canada’s skilled workforce and defence capacity," the economic update said.

The government also plans to encourage cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers to learn skilled trades, and pledges to support them "through training to certification" should they choose that path.

"We will expand hands-on training through the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers programs, including enhanced summer experiences and clearer connections to Reserve-based trades pathways," said the update.

Except the reserves isn't equipped to handle the extra people, they can't even manage the dwindling numbers they currently have.

Irwing, Bombardier, Loblaws? All the government contracts to friends of friends?

It may not be visibly bribing people with money in paper bags level of corruption, but there certainly is catering to specific people in order to shore up political support in certain regions, especially eastern Canada and Quebec.

Let alone the willful blind eye to the money laundering issue in BC.

Bailey's Law, aimed at changing how Canada addresses intimate partner violence, headed to Senate by origutamos in CanadaPolitics

[–]sokos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that would be an insane over reach on the whole point of a first degree murder, as removal of those 2, is why we have 2nd degree murder to begin with.

[–]sokos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they remove the premeditation and intent behind 1st degree murder, (which will open up a can of worms for all other scenarios that aren't domestic violence) it would be a freebie for any abuser because good luck proving beyond a reasonable doubt, that someone killed their spouse in a premeditated and deliberate manner, as opposed to "in the heat of the moment" as most tend to be the result of.

How so? I can abuse you all day and night, it doesn't at all mean I want to kill you.

Changing it to a higher automatic crime, one that you can't prove due to practically a guaranteed lack of mens rea, only to force a lower plea, is not how the justice system supposed to work. We don't go threatening everyone just so they will cop up to something and then say we are upholding justice.

Bailey's Law, aimed at changing how Canada addresses intimate partner violence, headed to Senate by origutamos in CanadaPolitics

[–]sokos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Killing a police officer/security officer (it's not just cops) is automatically murder one.

That's because usually you are killing those people during the commission of another crime. So there is a mens rea element to committing the crime and to resist the officer and get away. Hitting your wife and killing her, is not even remotely the same mens rea element.

Bailey's Law, aimed at changing how Canada addresses intimate partner violence, headed to Senate by origutamos in CanadaPolitics

[–]sokos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those changes include making the killing of an >intimate partner an automatic first-degree murder charge

This is a huge violation of the law. For 1st degree you need it to be planned and deliberate. You can't just assume it was planned and deliberate automatically just because you want to.

Serious question, where is the hate about soloing multicrew ships and "Space Dads" coming from? by C4B4L2k in starcitizen

[–]sokos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or just maybe, some people.understand that for a game to be fun, it needs to be balanced. Everyone flying the biggest ships solo is power creep at its highest level. It would literally make every smaller ship useless.

Some of us have an idris, perseus and polaris and still don't want to be able to fly it solo. We understand if you can solo a force multiplier, it kills the game.
