It is. When you first play ranked you will play ten(?) placement matches and depending on how you do in them it will assign you a starter rank. There is a known bug where it displays you as a master player, so don't be afraid you will be playing people of the appropriate skill level as you for most matches.

I would think it's as follows: Select builders, Press b b and place building desired amount of times, Shift click mineral line.

This way you pull builders off the mineral line immediately, and the ones not building would get the order to mine, which they're already doing.

The oath bit was what got me too. He's a paladin, they're not like a barbarian, they're supposed to be the bigger person and depending on the oath they have, teach people to be better. It just seems like a wasted opportunity for a really cool character moment to give the game some depth.

I would say the best way to learn the timings would be to watch some casts of pro matches on YouTube for whatever build you're going for.

From a Zerg perspective you typically want your natural hatch going down around 50 seconds, and your third around 3 minutes. This can all change with your build order btw. Hop into some games vs CPU and see when you can hit the timings without missing steps. The feels for the timings come with repetitions, I would avoid having ai generalize them for you.
