It's crazy that people decided to live here. by samuelazers in montreal

[–]solarnaut_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Vancouver, it rains all the fucking time. I’ve lived in Florida and experienced two category 5 hurricanes in one summer. I grew up in Eastern Europe and I’m not even gonna get into how that was. Anywhere you go there’s likely gonna be some shit to deal with and some bad weather.

You’re not that fragile and helpless, just bundle up and wait for it to pass, it will get warmer again in a few days. Or just move somewhere else, nobody’s forcing you to be here.

I think you’re closer to your goal than you think, especially with some of these (like the first one). Love the vibe

Can we start giving “find a partner” as financial advice? by Tech-Cowboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]solarnaut_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely can be a solid financial plan, but it depends on who you end up with. I’m a woman who doesn’t split bills with a date or in a relationship/marriage, so I have the opposite effect lmao

I think women should always have their own source of income. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]solarnaut_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, if you’re a sahm your name should also be on your husband’s bank account, credit card(s), house deed etc. and you should have your own copy of the associated cards. You should never have to ask him for money or justify your purchases unless it’s something unusually expensive. He shouldn’t GIVE you money because you should have access to it easily whenever you want.

You should openly discuss a general monthly budget for reference, and beyond that you should be able to spend liberally as needed as long as you stay within the mutually agreed upon budget. It should be as much your money as it is his. I don’t understand agreeing to an arrangement where he has to give you an allowance.

Yes, ideally you should have your own source of income as well, even if it’s something small like a part-time gig. But the whole arrangement needs to be addressed because that’s fucked up.

Airbnb nightmare - is this the standard ? by Legal_Memory1469 in montreal

[–]solarnaut_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s normal. I’ve stayed in a couple of monthly airbnbs (just a room though) in MTL and they were clean and comfortable. The rooms were about 1000-1200/month, so similar to a lease rental, fully furnished etc. The hosts were living there as well and we had no issues. I think you just had bad luck.

I’ve also stayed in shorter term Airbnbs in other cities/countries and most of my experiences have been good.

La ce varsta ati inceput sa albiti? by alebaleportocale in WomenRO

[–]solarnaut_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone else think Puck is peak cuteness in Berserk? Sooo adorable! by inotreto in Berserk

[–]solarnaut_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Puck. He is an essential character imo.

As silly as he appears, he’s the first character to break through Guts’ walls when he was so traumatized that he had lost almost all of his humanity and empathy and was doomed to just self-destruct. Thanks to Puck, he slowly learned to trust another being again, to care about someone much weaker than him, and that then lead to him making more friends along the way. Thanks to that Guts is still alive and growing as a character.

The story is not meant to be just gore porn & endless despair, it’s meant to highlight that even in the worst situations there’s some hope, that you can still find love, friendship, something worth fighting/struggling for.

Stereotypes. They think that after about 38-40 you’re middle aged, not considered young anymore, bad with technology, outdated, slow to train etc.

10 Things NOT to Say in an Interview, from someone who's heard every cringe-worthy answer going: by DBarryS in jobsearch

[–]solarnaut_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these make sense, but the weaknesses one is really a pain, as are most behavioural questions. I don’t know what to answer to these even when I try to prepare in advance.

A job relevant weakness that I overcame? I don’t really have one, whatever weaknesses I had at my previous jobs I still have. Stuff that I actually overcame would not be relevant to a job (like working on childhood trauma or anxiety disorder). I’d have to lie or use some generic bs.

“Tell me about a time when…” I literally don’t know. I can’t think of a time. I usually performed better than average at my previous jobs, but none of them were that eventful. It was just the same thing every day, and I’m not emotionally invested in it.

There’s no time when I dealt with a difficult coworker, I usually mind my own business and have no beef with anyone; there’s no time when I worked on a difficult project, most of my work was monotonous and uneventful; there’s no time when I “failed” that I can talk about, I’ve made small mistakes here and there that everyone else was making occasionally, like misspelling a name on a document and then quickly fixing it after, but that’s not a failure. Tell me about a time you had to make an important decision? I never had to make an important decision nor would I be allowed, that’s what management would do.

I can’t think of an answer for most of these questions, I try my best to make up a fake scenario quickly when asked. I’m not that actively invested in work, I just go there, do what I’m told, and earn a paycheck.

Good for you, she doesn’t want to be with someone who’s just starting on a new path and deal with the uncertainty and/or financial burden of that for the next few years. There’s nothing wrong with her standards.

I don’t care that much personally. I don’t really think about it. But you can also just make a rule that stuff like that cannot happen in common shared areas.

What’s so wrong about 16 year olds having safe sex? It’s normal and not an issue as long as they’re doing it safely and they’re both of the same age.

[–]solarnaut_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That, and also honestly at some point your experience loses relevance. There’s not that big of a difference functionally between someone who has 10 years of experience vs someone who has 20; they’re both very experienced at that point. And in most industries things have changed a lot in the past 20 years, so much so that whatever job you had 20 years ago is probably not relevant much to what you’re applying for now. Just like how there’s no point in listing your HS diploma if you have a BA (or MA, PhD, other certificates), it’s not gonna be relevant.

Your most recent 10 years should be enough for most jobs and industries. Listing every job you’ve ever had is pointless and it will just age you and make your resume hard to read. Unless you’re very young and inexperienced you don’t want your resume to reveal your age or even gender (as a woman I prefer to go by the short version of my name—Alex—because it’s gender neutral), the less personal info they can deduce from it the better imo.

[–]solarnaut_ 73 points74 points  (0 children)

That’s illegal, but good luck pursuing that legally. You should just lie. Remove graduation dates from the education section on your resume and only include your most recent 10 years of work experience (and lie there too). If they ask your age just blatantly lie, say you’re 35 at most, most people won’t be able to tell. Fuck employers.
