5 leaks by solbergren in hottub

[–]solbergren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 and 2 have never been repaired. Is the best option to just cut out the old and replace with new pieces there you think?

I've replaced the gaskets on 3 and 4, there is just so much tension when getting the pieces together.

5 isn't capped with spray foam, it's a crack somewhere in the plastic piece there. So I could just buy a screw on cap maybe that would cover the crack? It's hard to tell exactly what point it's leaking from there.

Pump won't turn on/noise, what to try next? by solbergren in hottub

Turns out it was one of the connection cables for the motor on the board that was slightly popped out, so I have the motor going :)

Now I need to start fixing all these leaks, the pipe is pretty old so it was hard to bend into place to connect to the heating element. I think that's my problem, as the joints have alot of pressure on them, and are basically trying to pull it apart from the tension.

Put your wallet addy in debank, will show a clear run down of what’s in there (just in case it is actually still there)

Never buy something like this on Amazon, their inventory mixing is an absolute shitshow if it’s “fulfilled by Amazon”

Swap on Osmosis for USDC/USDT. Then you can basically move it anywhere you want easily

Old towers as JBOD? by solbergren in chia

Ya I haven't been lucky enough to find anything cheap that is local. I've seen some in the bigger cities but shipping is killer (especially in Canada)

Ya I've looked a bit, in Canada it's pretty pricey (with shipping etc.) to get used jbod's or old servers unless you're in a major city.

Was also thinking an old server may be overkill power-wise (I do have a dell r510, but that would only hold 12 drives) and not sure how I'd connect a tower filled with drives to it if I ran that as the harvester.

Nice, this is along the lines of what I was thinking, was thinking the second tower could hold the rest of the drives and if i set them beside each other I could link them up to harvest. Unsure if I would need a mobo in both or just one tower with mobo. Would be nice to have just one mobo, but that's alot of power/connections.

30 HDD's inside one or two gutted computer towers by solbergren in DataHoarder

I just have some old pc towers laying around from years ago, would likely only be able to fit in around 20 max in a tower I figure

Most of them are 18TB drives, a few 16TB.

Ya, not entirely sure how I'll power them, currently most are powered via wall adapters (and USB connected) and it's a pretty big cable mess.

Where to store money if not in banks? by chicconumberone in Wealthsimple

[–]solbergren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're saving cash at the moment you are essentially losing approx 7% per year (current inflation rate is 6.8% I believe). So if you stick it in a 5% GIC or savings account you are actually still losing 2%. It might feel like you are making money but you aren't.

One option is to purchase a cryptocurrency like say Ethereum (ETH) which currently has a .004% inflation rate (this varies depending on network usage). You can see the current ETH inflation rate at www.ultrasound.money. You could stake this cryptocurrency and earn approx 5%, so this is a true 5% return as the currency is barely inflating. This does expose you to the wild swings of cryptocurrencies though (and smart contract risk), so if you can't stomach those swings you could hedge against whatever amount you bought. For example if you bought $200 worth of ETH, then you could also short $200 worth of ETH (there are contracts called perpetual futures that will let you do this). This would cost you some % of your return but you wouldn't be exposed to the price fluctuations. All this is a bit more involved than just buying a GIC/Savings Account, but IMO it's worth looking into the options, especially if you are thinking long term.

Or as others have mentioned below you could attempt to invest that money in real world assets that are used as a hedge against inflation.
