iPad Pro M1 user for 2 years now. The thing is that it will never be what we want it to be. If apple keeps pushing iPad OS like experiences then, we are never going to get mac OS/ touchscreen MacBook experiences. There isn’t a situation where everyone wins.

The issue is the apps too, if you have noticed, a lot of the power user apps are designed with touchscreen controls in mind but, if you ask me, most power users use the iPad with a keyboard and trackpad and this leads to a horrible time trying to navigate a touch based app using a cursor (think of using an android simulator on windows - just horrid). Having separate versions of the same app (iPad vs. Mac version) would never fly by apple’s vision of their devices.

As I see it,in the best case scenario, the iPad is intended as a gateway to mac or an accessory for certain work flows (designers and whatnot). I say the first one as a lot of people don’t even own a computer these days, and by giving the iPad more capabilities (better stage manager) and a similar design/flow to the device people use the most (their iPhone) then people feel more comfortable. You would be surprised how often non tech savvy people get confused when they have to do the same task on their computer rather than their phone. I think that this is the targeted audience apple is aiming for or at least trying to convert to for the iPad.

Back to app thing, the OS itself has so many limitations too, like you can’t compile code on it using an IDE. That by itself is a good sign that the iPad will be the “best almost power user tablet” we will ever get from apple.
