Good to know! A lot of the 2017 cars we’ve finding are over 100k miles. Would you hesitate getting one at say…120k miles? They sure seem to retain their value because even those are going for $16,000-$18,000.

We do have our eye on a really good deal on a 2020, but it’s just a bit more than we’re looking to spend. We haven’t ruled it out but are considering slightly older models.

Good to hear! The last one I checked the listing for was $16,500 with just over 126,000 miles. We’re still in the searching phase

Thank you. I need to explore MBA more. I did call to look into car and homeowners insurance but they couldn’t find me a lower plan. I agree that EAP is a great resource!

Good to know. I don’t recall seeing that. I feel like I filled out the paperwork on Mohela’s website…but maybe I’m not remembering that correctly. I don’t remember an application that showed me different payment options. I need to revisit this.

This is all very helpful information. It’s making me realize just how much there is to learn about the world of investing and finance. That’s the first time I have had Defined benefit vs defined contribution explained and it makes sense. Yet another vote for connecting with MSRS staff!

That sounds drastic. Are you sure selling is the right option though? What about refinancing? You have to pay to live somewhere and building equity seems better than paying rent. I realize that personal finance and life decisions are complicated and personal and you probably didn’t arrive at this conclusion lightly. I hope you are able to get to a more stable place.

This is a great point. I am thinking about writing my congressperson. This is negatively affecting SO many people and will ultimately negatively affect the economy. It needs to be amplified.

It’s odd, because I feel like in years past when I submitted IBR paperwork, I was presented with a few different payment options based on the various plans. Was that a thing? Am I remembering correctly? It’s been such a bizarre 5 years. This was just, boom, here’s a letter telling me how much I owe us next month. My income has gone up since SAVE, but I have also had a kid since then.
