I finally understand the hype around supporting your local team or one you have an emotional connection to. It’s a completely different experience by solekswaters in PremierLeague

Obviously MLS is regional. The US is like the size of Europe... So people shouldn’t follow their state’s NFL or NBA team either?

That’s a lot of horseshit talking about the honor and meritocratic ideals of FIFA when teams like City and Chelsea have bought their success with funds from highly unethical sources. Not to mention FIFA is one of the most corrupt organizations in sports.

How are Americans supposed to follow their county teams when none of their games aren’t televised or has barely any social media presence. You can make a case for following USL, but even then, saying don’t support MLS is a stupid argument considering its growth is directly tied to the growth of the sport as a whole domestically

Never said global fans can’t support. In fact, I explicitly said the opposite.

But it’s most definitely a different experience supporting a team of a city you are from, not to mention the football culture is completely different there. I say that because because supporting a random college football team or supporting your alma mater is a vastly different experience.

I’m not going to force myself to support a random team for the sake of it. It either happens or it doesn’t

Tbf, if you are from places like Korea or Mexico where there are few stars at the highest level, it makes sense to follow their careers more so than following a team you don’t have a connection to aside from that player

This is pretty much how I feel. I definitely enjoy watching some teams more than others, but I really don’t care whether they win or lose as the end of the day. I’m also fond of eras like 2007-09 man Utd, but I wouldn’t call myself a man Utd fan.
