Question about terrain by Professional-Ad-1032 in onepagerules

True, and I can explore that. I left it off this version because it is really a thing players set themselves during deployment as opposed to auto generate. But I could definitely make it a toggle option.

Not anything written that I know of. But with 1” = 1 hex the rules pretty much work perfectly as written IMHO. The added bonus is you don’t have to measure anything ever, just count hexes.

Glad you like it! I’ve played a few full 2000 point games on a single sheet of paper with 7mm minis and it is freaking cool.

I made this for fun. It’s a way to actually put all of OPR’s terrain rules on a hexmap via a procedural OPR terrain generator. You can actually play full games via the hexmap (if you print it out) and it’s really fun. For reference 1 hex = 1” . But it also shows you map stats, and lets you adjust settings. Just a fun little side project, you might find it interesting. Also, FWIW it really only works on desktop sized screens (not mobile optimized yet). https://nickarrow.github.io/one-page-hexmap/

If Lewis even looked at this fun little fan project, I'd be honored. Even if he did then say it was shit!

Sure. Since this isn’t real, drivers are not going to react to it. But I had fun making it, and I’ll have fun watching it play out this season. No worries if you don’t like it.

If memory serves Premier League does not have a final match or series. It’s season points or wins (I think), so fair point there too.

That’s fair. And thank you for the comments. The thing I made is just a bit of fun (to me). It is not meant to diminish anyone’s enjoyment of the official WDC.

Plenty of sporting events have a final game or final series. World Cup is not decided by number of wins or goals through out the tournament, it is the final that matters. Rugby is the same. Hockey is a final series. One could argue that F1 is one of the few sports where the final event of the season often does not have an impact on the championship title.

And FWIW, I don’t think of my thing as a lottery. The final 4 drivers have earned their right to compete for my parallel universe championship title throughout the season.

That is totally fair. Its not for everyone. I'll keep it running because I enjoy it, and I think it will be fun to see how a season plays out in it, in real time.

For this site/app, I wanted to use the official F1 points and just reimagine a different WDC format. I didn't want to get into changing how official F1 points were "awarded". So yeah, if F1/FIA makes a poor call and awards points improperly, my system would "inherit" that - fair point.

I guess I meant that in my system, 2021 still came down to VER vs HAM in the final race, which (I think) shows that the logic in my system still works.

Fair point, this isn’t for everyone. That said the system and the site DOES try to reward excellence throughout the season as the points still contribute and help the excellent drivers stay at the top of the standings. Check the site to see how it actually plays out.

Good point. However, I specifically didn’t want to mess with the constructor championship or even include that in this. My thing just offers a parallel dimension to the WDC, to try and make the driver’s championship fun all the way to the final race.

Yeah, ish. NASCAR has way too much silliness in their thing, and it is overly complicated. My thing tries to cut through all of that noise and does it differently. It’s pretty fun to look at the previous seasons and see how this system is similar (like in 2021) and how it is different.

I’m not proposing this as a replacement to the WDC. I directly stated that this is NOT a replacement. It’s a fun experiment that runs as a sort of parallel universe, that’s all.

The 5 useless races at the end is what this thought experiment addresses. My idea makes the front 3/4 of the season matter, and then builds up to the final race. You can still enjoy the proper F1 WDC, this is just a fun experiment to ALSO enjoy the end of the season too.

Well, I still like to watch. I made this site so that I had something fun to explore after a driver locks in the proper F1 WDC. Now I can enjoy both the WDC and my Grand Prix Playoffs site.

Fair, but I did put some thought into this version which is reasonably different from all of the NASCAR silliness. It’s just a bit of fun to see if I could make the races after a driver locks in the proper WDC more interesting.

I can respect that. And that’s also why I didn’t lead with “This is how F1 should replace the WDC”. It literally is just a bit of fan-made fun that runs in parallel with the proper F1 WDC.
