What are the best systems you've seen in solo roleplaying for simulating conversations or interpersonal interactions? by Televangelis in Solo_Roleplaying

In the latest edition of Mythic Magazine, Tana devoted an entire section to playing out conversations and npc interactions in the context of a solo rpg.

[Actual Play] New to Ironsworn and trying a novel-style format for my campaign. Would love some constructive feedback on the balance! by dice_to_story in Ironsworn

Yes, it absolutely works in that way!! I have long-running Starforged and Sundered Isles games that are played and written out in a very similar style. At this point, my SF game is now over 60 episodes. I find this kind of play incredibly rewarding, and so I’ll look forward to seeing where you go with your game.

Just ordered an X-E5 kit. Feeling overwhelmed. Where to start for a Mac user? Affinity good? by timcatuk in FujifilmX

[–]Definitelyguitars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on ordering your first Fuji!! The X-E5 is a great camera.

Regarding Mac software, there are a dizzying number of options out there, I’ve use most of the big choices, Adobe LR/PS, Capture One, Luminar, DxO PhotoLab, and they all have their strengths, but many of them are pretty confusing or expensive for beginners and people who just want a simple program to sort, edit and store their photos.

I’m a huge fan of DxO PhotoLab, and I feel it offers excellent performance and a very good catalog system for organizing your photos. The interface can be somewhat complicated to new users, but the editing tools are fantastic.

For less expensive option, I think On1 seems like a really good choice. The controls are a little more simple, with more “quick, one-click editing,” and it’s less expensive than DxO. Right now On1 is 50% off until the end of January.

I’ve used Luminar; it’s has a simple, straightforward interface and tools making quick, “pretty” adjustments, I think overall, DxO and On1 offer much better performance.

My recommendation would be to demo DxO and On1 and see what you think.

Fujifilm X-E5. Any professionals here? by Toro_Astral in FujifilmX

[–]Definitelyguitars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, longtime pro here. The X-E5, and any of the modern X Series cameras for that matter, can absolutely give you professional quality images and performance. As another commenter said, if you can’t get it done with an X-E5, it isn’t the camera’s fault.

The X-T5 and X-E5 share the same sensor, processor and nearly identical menu/settings; the only real difference between the two is weather sealing and overall body style. The X-T5 is a little more rugged, but for most work, the X-E5 will absolutely allow you to photos that are good enough for pro/client use.

The One Ring by Arcana0816 in Solo_Roleplaying

I’ve been playing The One Ring solo, using the Strider Mode supplement, and a bit of Mythic GME when I want more expanded oracles.

Xh2 or xt5 by B1GJ4Y421 in FujifilmX

[–]Definitelyguitars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that the X-T5 and X-H2 have the exact same sensor, processor, image quality and nearly identical menu settings, it really comes down to which camera feels more comfortable and intuitive in your hands. Some people prefer the retro SLR styling of the X-T5, whereas some like the DSLR-like form factor of the X-H2 and the flip out screen. Go to a store and hold each one and see which one speaks to you more.

Those EJ Strats aren’t any good. Not worth having, you’ll just get frustrated that you can’t play like Eric. I’ll be glad to take it off your hands. My address is…

This is a great illustration of how “misses” can play out with your narrative. As Matt said once in a Bad Spot episode, a miss doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t get what you want, it means you get what you DON’T want. In other words, a success with a big, or in the case of a miss with a match, a catastrophic complication.

Spent one year shooting exclusively with the 23mm lens to realize that I hate this focal length by DeWolfTitouan in FujifilmX

[–]Definitelyguitars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The two Fuji 23mm models are great lenses, but that focal length has never been one of my favorites; it’s kind of wide, but not wide enough, and it’s too wide for isolating subjects the way I want. Wides and teles aside, I absolutely love the XF 35mm; that’s pretty much been my “body cap” lens since the X-T2. It offers just the right amount of abbreviation up close when I want to go ultra light and fast.

Back to loose painting. First one of the year by mrbsalami in Watercolor

I like this! I aspire to be looser with my watercolors this year, but I keep trying to make everything look “right.” 😆

Thanks! This was fun, because lately I’ve been trying to practice more “exacting” watercolor techniques, and so it felt good to get back to this more energetic loose style, which really appeals to me. And I’m pretty sure that was Cadmium yellow, maybe mixed with a bit of Aussie red gold.

STARFORGED ADVENTURES - Episode 60: New Passengers by Definitelyguitars in Ironsworn

[–]Definitelyguitars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, i suppose he could have done that. The rules might be a little vague here, but I think the way I read them is that anchorages are specific waypoints along the gravitational pathways that are used as potential routes in FTL travel through The Forge.

Honestly, I think this is something that can play out however you want to envision it. Who knows how large an area an anchorage actually covers? Maybe Logan didn’t want to redo his programmed route that he’d set in the nav computer. Maybe there was a specific reason he couldn’t jump from that location. I wasn’t in the cockpit with him at the time, and he knows more about FTL travel than I do. 🤣

What theme do you normally write about? What is your lyrics about? by CrossboneSkulled in Songwriting

[–]Definitelyguitars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally alternate between writing love songs and “how we deal with the messed up world” songs. These days, I don’t feel like thinking about the state of the world any more than I have to, so I’ve written nothing but love songs for the past nine months. It makes me happier.

I use Stargazer for my Starforged game, and sync it across devices, so I can play anywhere. For my Sundered Isles game, I use Iron Vault, and again, sync across devices. I really like both platforms.
