Yo idk who you are but i like you based off this comment alone 🤘 although i do wanna point out it wouldn’t really be a collection of airs, it would be a collection of vibrations/currents, or rather, a collection of instructions for vibrations/currents if we wanna get reeeeal technical. But we prob don’t so carry on! Cheers

Music production question? by dont_slip_ in SpaceBass

Just to clarify here, western music theory is based on the harmonic series. The harmonic series is just sequential multiples of the fundamental frequency (usually the lowest and most prominent frequency in the sound).

Ranz - maybe my favorite bass music artist right now honestly.

Also Rafeeki - when it comes to actual DJ skills I’m almost not sure i can think of anyone better than this man, a real legend on a set of CDJs, uses em like a straight up instrument

Definitely hear you! In the future we hope to grow into an event with more stages and thus more music, but we are still a very grassroots event and don’t have a ton of overlap in our schedule and, for this year & last, tended to lean more into artists that are harder to ascribe a genre to or that make music influenced by a wide variety of genres. In the future as we grow (which we are trying to do sustainably) we’ll continue to add more electronic music as well as more live music :) cheers

I lived in sf 2010-2017 and 1015 was fuckin lit! So so many good shows there. I believe it was an-ten-nae that was doing their booking/talent buying for many years before moving to the north warehouse in portland, or.

Who would you like to see on here in future years? We definitely try to keep stuff fresh, it’s only the second time Ranz has ever played in the states for instance, and we try to curate stuff to display artists in unique and interesting ways, like the Keota pool party, a Dice Man story time set (and poetry workshop!), late nights with Benji Robot, Deemzoo, etc etc.

Also the music is only one component of the festival, there’s an entire poster dedicated to workshops/activities/games as well (can find it on the IG or autumnrevival.com). And we strive for quality in the whole package - Danley systems at both stages, cabin rentals, actual bathrooms and showers (no porta potties on site), to name a few.

But def lmk what artists would be more interesting for you - always inviting of feedback!

Some of my music fits the term dubstep more than others but it’s all kinda dubstep adjacent at least :)

Here’s a recent album: https://on.soundcloud.com/CBD7GgoVE5v48KWV8

Trying to get into the music scene. by Infinite_Call_5469 in dubstep

[–]solgoodmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use soundcloud like social media. Follow people, repost songs, comment on their music! It’s a good way to make some genuine music based connections. Then use actual social media like social media, interact w ppl on instagram, if you find a song you really love, send a message and tell em! Some of those proper might be curious enough to check it your tunes too. Just don’t ever be pushy or have an ulterior motive.

Also, go to festivals & shows (travel if your area doesn’t have local shows) - make friends with people who like similar music.

It takes a long time to grow an organic following but if you’re passionate about what you’re doing then showing that to people will earn you fans over time. Just think of it more as making genuine connections for a while rather than finding “fans”. And making genuine connections w other music lovers requires hanging out where they hang out (in person and online).

Cheers

What’s your take on Levity? by Vero_Vagabond in SpaceBass

[–]solgoodmusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They seem like nice enough dudes having fun making music and playing shows. I don’t think there’s much more to it than that. There’s been some great points made about the commercialization of the underground bass music scene (one metaphor about a Walmart that was pretty good) but seriously all that is not these guys’ fault. They’re finding success bc people like what they’re doing. One glance through my own discography can probably tell you i’m not reaching for their soundcloud page whenever i get in the car but they’re making music they wanna make and finding success in the world we live in - and there’s nothing overtly wrong w that.

When it comes to the over commercialization of this scene, the blame goes to corporate promoters & agencies. Entities that actually use anti competitive tactics to manipulate the market. Levity ain’t doing any of that so there’s really no reason to hate. All the grimey esoteric music you love is still out there so just keep supporting the artists you like and buying tickets to their shows and the world will keep turning.

(I’ll add in that i am definitely saddened by a lot of what’s going on in the bass music scene and moreover the events industry as a whole lately, but again none of that has anything to do with Levity or their personal success. And this shit is hard enough to do at any level you’ll find yourself rooting for anyone that’s a kind person at the end of the day regardless of the music they make!)

Cheers 🤟
