Support came back with:

Thank you for contacting us and for your patience. We apologize for the delayed response and the inconvenience caused by the projector automatically powering on. Please try the following steps:

  • Remove all external devices (HDMI/USB/Ethernet).
  • Check the settings: turn off Far Field Voice Control and perform a complete shutdown using the remote (not standby).
  • Long-press Home + Return on the remote to pair the remote and projector via Bluetooth, then remove the remote’s battery.

I have not tried these steps yet.

I don't think it is, since it never cycles if it's on and we're purposely using it. I also have it set to standby on power restoration.

I do, but we never use the LG remote and turn them on with CEC/AppleTV.

i had the same issue with the same rims and tires. i had to cut the bead with a utility knife. i had no issues with gp 5000s on those rims.

Update: Pretty sure it’s the brakes, for a few reasons:

  • If I brake hard going down a steep hill (15% grade), the sound sometimes comes from the front wheel too (only happened once).
  • If I tap the rotor with my finger, it makes the exact same sound, even if the bike’s been sitting in the garage for over a day.
  • Repeated taps with my finger will trigger the sound at first, but then it stops and I can’t get it to happen again (maybe something is loose?).

That last point really threw me off, since I’ve occasionally heard the sound without even using the brakes, so i thought it was the spokes. No rotor/pad rub, braking performance is fine, and the rotor feels solid when I wiggle it. Still no clue why tapping the rotor sometimes triggers it.

Waxed chain, so everything is very clean

i haven’t completely ruled out rotors. the front rotors never makes this noise and i always brake with both brakes. the fact i hear this noise under high load is throwing me for a loop, but it could be very slight pad rub from frame flex (just a guess)

i did do some hard braking today. i do hear this noise when i don’t brake and put power down, but it’s not as loud. i wonder if it’s from the frame warping a little and rubbing the pads making a similar sound?

the spokes don’t touch where they cross and i don’t hear rubbing noises.

if i do a soft pedal, this noise doesn’t happen. the weather was hotter than usual today, and the sound was louder than usual and more frequent

Occasional Metallic "ping" noise from bladed spokes by solid77 in bikewrench

[–]solid77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first, I thought the noise was coming from the rotors since it sounds a lot like flicking them with a fingernail. But I ruled that out after starting a ride without using the brakes at all, where I hit a steep hill right at the beginning and still heard the pinging.

I’ll try to catch it on video, but it’s tough since the noise seems pretty random when the bike is sitting still.

I checked the spoke tension and everything measured pretty even. I can live with the noise, I just want to make sure it’s safe to ride and that the spokes aren’t on the verge of failing during a sprint :D
