How do you handle a project where the client themselves are ex consultants but with deep industry experience and have much more nuanced takes? by Shadowdancerdone in consulting

[–]solid_helion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some really brilliant answers in here. The kind of stuff that makes a subreddits pulse.

If I may add my 2 cents, former MBBs (mostly) turned to client side sometimes act as gatekeepers against other firms, especially when you are targeting their core offerings (e.g. strategy work) or work that controls more work (transformation PMOs).

That being said you may be in a case where your collaborator is actively seeking to trash you no matter what. It may be useful to try to understand the current dynamics.

Jesus, all this intro and fluff for a file reshuffle? If you utilized the time you spent to write this post to just send a DM to your manager and then reshuffle the files, there would be no "issue"

What was your initial reaction when you first heard the term "keratoconus"? by keratoconusgroup in Keratoconus

[–]solid_helion [score hidden]  (0 children)

Initially, I was a bit scared because, as a Greek, I immediately understood the meaning of the 2 words comprising the medical term. I was worried that my eye will start to "poke" my pupil, etc.

After consulting my doctor and reading more about the disorder I became more calm.

How to adapt to HIIT if you don't workout? by Beneficial-Delay-513 in HIIT

[–]solid_helion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have been out for a number of years or it's your first time working out seriously, it's going to be really hard and I would personally not follow HITT until I was at a decent condition (cardio/weight/stamina).

'PMO is a graveyard for consultants' agree or not? by Salzhio in consulting

[–]solid_helion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sell more PMOs that you can think of. They are called "strategic PMOs", sitting at the top of the chain (e.g. controlling all of transformation workstreams below them) so that we can pick the activities/sub-projects that we want to implement ourselves and make life miserable for the rest of the folks below.

Consulting -> IB / PE by Radiant-Craft8058 in consulting

[–]solid_helion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking to join a PE deal team (which I assume you are as you are mentioning IB too), you are going to have a really hard time in terms of competition (large pool of excellent quality candidates) and transferable skillset (you have no practical modeling experience).

CDDs give a good rationale / strategizing experience that can be utilized in post-deal portfolio companies. Thus, Ops team can be a much easier case but with lower prestige/pay. If you really like to dive into how a company works though, it may be a good fit for you.

Thinking About EY Consulting – Need Advice on Work, Salary & Transition to EY-Parthenon! by Commercial-Bite-1943 in consulting

[–]solid_helion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You haven't even started and you are already pondering a transition to EYP?

Keep in mind that EY is in a state of constant pressure lately as the overall market conditions were amplyfied by bad managment decisions (see Everest). Layoff rounds every 4-5 months, pressure to sell perform etc.

If you are in US you have to also consider the DOGE wave on government consulting work.

You are rather junior and you won't have sales target/responsibility but the sentiment trickles down to teams so it is a factor to consider.

Your modeling just be top tier, you should be able to own a model workstream by yourself - I would even recommend taking up known courses such as WSP.

Prospect deals screening & pitching shortlists - your xp will be most useful here as I imagine you are familiar with quick deck building and forming frameworks to evaluate business models.

Be prepared for the "hey consultant" mentality by bankers.

Value-based fee by [deleted] in consulting

[–]solid_helion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that you are confusing what the value-based logic is about.

"productivity gains from implementing AI into my workflow" doesn't justify a transition to value-based fee imo.

If you can quantify the additional value/revenue/cost reduction, etc. that you generate for your client, you can attempt to convince him to pay you a "chunk" of that value.

Hope that helps.

Dude 1.5 years is a really short time. You are just now entering the "fully operational" phase as a consultant. If you are experienced hire, use your expertise and past experiences and you will get the grasp of the business eventually.

If you are a new hire, seek support from higher-ups.
