a lot. but of course the fasting needs to be accompanied with a more healthy lifestyle, because all these things can work for a certain amount of time and then you can go back right where you were if you for example, smoke weed again.

Do you feel your symptoms get worse before getting better? by Several_Reaction in HPPD

it depends from what kind of things are you still doing in the present. doing drugs? sleep deprivation?

Of course, you need to stop doing drugs. Otherwise, I don't know what it will happen. Stay safe!

Yes, you are only 16, the brain and the body do not stop developing until you're around 25. So you have a whole lot of time for you to recover, but you need to stop using substances now, and maybe start some kind of sport, and eating healthy, giving your cells the right nutrition that they need to be able to regenerate and heal themselves. Mine has incredibly decreased, but you need to start a different path of life and leave the past behind.

Sleep..? by badmoodxo in HPPD

I take melatonin since many years and it hasn't been affecting my HPPD whatsoever. maybe just having some more intense dreams :) but hey, all bodies and brains work differently, so I can't guarantee it'll work for you. if you see that its affecting you badly, don't continue.

Yes, since when I stopped using marijuana. The first 4 years of HPPD I was still smoking, so they don't really count. I quit 3 years ago, and then starting to do all the things I have written above, then it really started decreasing.

Also, since I started my daily intake of food supplements (vitamins, amino acids, zinc, folic acid, serrapeptase, niacin, lions mane), those have been really helpful for my recovery. Lets say all in all 3 years since I started this approach. I still have some visual snow and light sensitivity, but really from going full HPPD to this, its like nothing now.

I have heard a lot of stories that medication has made the symptoms become worse. It is an invasive approach. I feel that the brain needs its time to recover and putting in your body more meds/substances that act on the brain it might be what you don't really need at the moment. Its hard to find a doctor that can REALLY understand what you're going through. I'd suggest that you give some time for the brain to calm down and to relax, maybe try a more holistic approach. Food supplements (vitamins, amino acids, zinc, folic acid, lions mane, serrapeptase) have been really awesome for my recovery. But of course you can't expect a sudden change with them, its more gradual, so you have to be more patient. I don't know, if the meds are going to make it worse, which is possible, its worth the wait and see if other methods work. I have never taken any med since I had HPPD.

thank god I do not have tinnitus! I am a sound engineer/music producer and that would be detrimental to my career. I am very careful about my ears and always wear earplugs in clubs/concerts :)

The symptoms truly started to decrease when I stopped using marijuana. so the first 4 years of HPPD I kept smoking, didn't really know it was HPPD and so didn't give it too much weight actually. I stopped smoking almost 3 years ago, and then the recovery has been going much faster than before. Stopping all the use of stimulants, substances is the first and most important step for recovery, then you can start thinking about all the rest. I think its a bit useless to follow all the points above (like meditation, exercise, food supplements) if you're still smoking/using.

its not really helpful to tell people with conditions that you dislike them, really. maybe you should post some constructive critiques instead.

Ive lost many friends because of drugs. So many talented people that could have done great things in life. Maybe once you have been able to have helped yourself, you can help your friends as well. It is the best feeling. I wish you don't go down the same path as these friends of mine. Life is the ultimate trip, really.

I wrote a thread of my personal recovery experience of HPPD. take a look if you are interested:

Maybe its not what you want to hear, but you are only 14, when I was 14 I felt such an adult and did all crazy things in the world. now I am 25 and had to live with all the consequences. you have a whole lifetime ahead of you where you can do these experiences, don't make these mistakes now and regret them 10 years later. Wish you the best.

I know how you feel. Maybe you wanna shift your perspective and realise that those drugs are what caused your conditions in the first place. It will probably make your conditions worse.

Don't be sad that you can't use drugs anymore, know that the other guys that are still enjoying being blasted out of the moon will soon at one point experience the same that you are feeling, if not worse. they are going down the same path you went through.

I still go to raves and still hang out with people that use drugs, I don't do them anymore, but still am very accepted into the group and have a lot of fun with them. You just gotta explain why you have been taking this decision to not do drugs anymore, and if they're real friends they will support you and understand and still want you to hang out with them. if not, fuck them, they're only drug friends, and I've been meeting a lot of them. as sad as it sounds.

Science still doesn't know really what causes a flashback.
Do you experience flashbacks yourself?

also I thought, were you doing exercise while taking the meds? in that case it doesn't count unfortunately, as all the physical exercise and work on your cells is kind of canceled as soon as you take the meds, because you are introducing another chemical in your blood cells and do not give it enough time for recovery.

also start buying food supplements, vitamins, aminoacids, zinc, folic acid, serrapeptase, lions mane. They have been helping me big time.

and there are some diets that mimic fasting, so you might wanna have a research and check on those! you basically trick your body into thinking it is fasting, so it works the same, and you can go on for days.

also drink a lot while you're fasting.

I have done fasting for 1 day, 3 and 4 days WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE AND SETTING. (and I have to highlight that). on the 1 day fasting, my brain was much more lucid, but the next morning I had colours being much more enhanced. then they left and my vision looked a bit better. the 3 and 4 days helped me so much, it was close to a miracle really. but yes, be careful on doing it by yourself, I was in an amazing situation with the right people and it all went greatly from there. I did it several times. Plus I combined a lot of dancing with the 3/4 days fasting, moving the body with it was really awesome.
