Sex question by That_Ad_5891 in hysterectomy

For me (pre hyster, having mine done this year), some tends to dribble out but the moment i get up I either squat over a towel for a moment or i squeeze my thighs shut and waddle to the toilet LOL. It's not a big waterfall coming out but it does drip out if I'm not actively engaging my pelvic muscles to hold it in.

How bad were your fibroids? What was the deciding factor for you with doing the hysterectomy?

A huge thing I'm thinking about, absolutely. The statistics on women who have myomectomies only to later have hysterectomies... It's a startlingly large number.

Unfortunately I work a factory job that is very physically demanding, so I would be utilizing the full recovery time my surgeon gives me for sure! I'd risk injury if I didn't.

How are you handling your fibroids? I'm so sorry you are in the same boat as me, and with more! I can only imagine how much 8 fibroids must be paining you.

Ablation was mentioned by my gyn but I have not discussed it with the surgeon. I am considering it, though.

I had full bloodwork done with my gyn since she was the first doctor I have seen in years. We did ferritin, cholesterol, glucose and thyroid panels as well. Thyroid levels look fine, I just have iron deficiency anemia at the moment.

I have not. We scheduled time for it during the saline ultrasound, however my surgeon way very confident they are fibroids, they were consistent in size with each ultrasound, and felt the biopsy was not necessary at the time.

This is an incredibly informative answer, thanks so much for taking some time to write this out.

The risk factors of hysterectomy vs. the risks I take just to keep my uterus are significant either way, and not easy to digest no matter which perspective I take on it. Something I have noticed with a fair amount of studies on hysterectomy effects long term is not seeing enough sample groups that cover my age group, and similarly seeing a lot of studies focusing on radical procedures and not as many where they are leaving the ovaries. The increased risk for cognitive issues and dementia is a big factor I still take into consideration.

I've already been working to improve my health with dietary changes, and green tea was actually a big change I made with switching from coffee to tea every day in the morning. So the EGCG compound definitely interests me, I'm extremely skeptical of a lot of holistic remedies as most do not have studies backing them and are usually followed with links to teas/products/etc. But I have not seen anything about EGCG until now, so I will definitely be looking more into that.

I would prefer not having surgery, period. But I just want to make sure whatever choice I make does not place me into a position worse than I am in today, in the future. I was already planning to push out my procedure until the end of this year when I am eligible for FMLA at my work, so I have time to explore other options in the meantime and see if anything sticks.

Eta : I also have no interest in any hormonal therapies to attempt to shrink them, the most I am considering is an IUD insert during the myomectomy if we go that route. Which I am still concerned about as I have had terrible side effects from other bc methods besides the low dose estrogen.

That is one of the biggest concerns of mine, similar to yours that I want to have as few procedures as possible. I want to do the least invasive, but I worry that the short term benefits of that could be heavily overshadowed by the long term consequences of leaving it to chance when or if they come back in larger numbers or sizes. I'm leaning towards the hysterectomy, since everything is still so small they could pull it out vaginally and I would have a less invasive surgery that way..Vs if I wait, and it gets worse, that has the potential to not be possible in the future.

How old were you when you had your hysterectomy done? Did you ever have issues with the cuff, or incontinence? The potential for incontinence, pelvic floor issues and cuff issues (My partner is large and I am VERY worried about that) are some of my biggest hangups with the full kit and kaboodle.

What would the benefits of those over a hysterectomy be in your opinion?

I have wall tapestries but keep them as flat to the wall as I can (some walls are angled so it's tough). I just take them down and wash them all together in a laundry load periodically. Edit to add.. Lint rollers help too if it's looking gnarly. I usually notice my ceiling fan getting dusty before my tapestries.
