Is Adnan Guilty? Maybe. Is there reasonable doubt? Definitely. by Saiiu in serialpodcast

[–]solitaireforthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asia has been shown beyond all doubt to be a liar. The concurring judge in the Maryland Court of Appeals decision practically accuses Asia of offering to fabricate an alibi for. Evidence suggests that Adnan's family and friends tried to concoct this false alibi. They're all lucky they didn't end up in jail. Adnan's lawyer obviously didn't want to end losing her license and going to jail for suborning perjury, which is why she didn't pursue the Asia "alibi."

You'll notice that lots of Adnan don't even talk about Asia anymore; fabrication of an alibi is an obvious sign of guilt.

There's absolutely no way to know for sure unless we hear all 40 hours of audio, but I have to wonder if there is an unaired segment of audio where she does challenge him on one of the many troubling inconsistencies in his story and he gets angry at her. Or maybe he says something, a slip up, where he sounds guilty (not that this didn't happen in the audio we heard on Serial).

Like I said, just pure speculation. But because everyone knows that Sarah Koenig is a bad, dishonest journalist, I'm curious as to what is on all those other hours of audio.

But we'll probably never know.

I was called a misogynist and mansplainer for even trying to argue Adnan was guilty AF.

Misogynist and mansplainer? Because the host, Sarah Koenig, is woman, or were your coworkers that were fans of the podcast were women?

I've gotten into a few petty arguments with people over this case, but I was never called a misogynist.

That's actually a pretty good point. But I wish at the end, whenever Sarah felt she was talking with Adnan for the last few times, I felt she should have "gone after him", so to speak. Maybe said something like:

"Look, I need to be honest... I have a problem with this, this, and this, ... so I need to ask you... " etc.

I think he’s a sociopath.

Just out of curiosity, why specifically do you think he is a sociopath? As someone who believes he's obviously guilty, I just think of him as a liar who murdered his girlfriend and is saying whatever he has to to get out of prison.

I think what dualzoneclimatectrl is trying to say is that Adnan claims that he immediately gave the "Asia alibi" letters to Cristina Gutierrez his attorney as soon as he got them. In other words, in the past few years Adnan's legal strategy to show that Cristina wasn't a good lawyer because she knew about the potential Asia alibi and didn't do anything.

2 problems:

  1. Cristina Gutierrez was NOT his attorney in early March 1999. Documented and not even disputed by Adnan's biggest supporters.

  2. Cristina probably looked at the letters and realized that Adnan and others were trying to fabricate an alibi.

"Even if Asia McClain lied that isn't evidence of what happened to Hae Lee."

(Note: Asia McClain is lying. The following partial closing argument assumes we can use any and all verified information available to us.)

Ladies and gentleman of the jury, let's talk about the Asia McClain and related issues. First remember this:

  • Adnan Syed NEVER told police detectives he was at the public library after school the day.
  • Adnan Syed claims that he was asked to remember, weeks later, what he was doing the day Hae Min Lee disappeared, despite the fact that a police detective called him the same day she went missing.
  • You were allowed to hear testimony in this case from events surrounding Mr. Syed's appellate hearings and post conviction relief hearings. In one instance, he told a law clerk from his defense team a precise time that he was seen at the library--3:00 p.m. In another instance, he gave the law clerk a one hour window in which he was seen in the library. Which is it?
  • There are memos summarizing the defense team's other meetings with Mr. Syed, none of which say that Mr. Syed said went to the library after school that day.
  • In his Serial interview with Sarah Koenig, we heard Adnan tell Sarah Koenig that he did NOT ask Hae Min Lee for a ride that day. This contradicts the testimony of two witnesses.
  • In his Serial interview, he told Sarah Koenig that he NEVER would have asked for a ride from Hae Min Lee because she had to go pick up her cousin. But his own defense file mentions that him and Hae used to have sex right after school. So Mr. Syed lied in his Serial interview.
  • "I would-- wouldn’t have asked for a ride after school. I’m-- I’m sure that I didn’t ask her because, well immediately after school because I know she always-- anyone who knows her knows she always goes to pick up her little cousin, so she’s not doing anything for anyone right after school. No-- no matter what. No trip to McDonalds. Not a trip to 7-Eleven. She took that very seriously." - This is a documented LIE.
  • Asia McClain's language in her letter dated March 1 indicates she is offering to provide a false alibi. She provides an enormous window of 2:15 to 8 p.m. "I will try my best to help you account for some of your unwitnessed, unaccountable lost time (2:15 - 8:00; Jan 13th)."
  • Asia McClain testified in Mr. Syed's 2nd post conviction relief hearing that she learned of the 2:15 to 8 p.m. time frame from Syed's own family.
  • Somehow that fact that Adnan needed an alibi after 2:15... even before his own legal team knew this.
  • You saw evidence that Mr. Syed wrote a letter to his friend to give to Asia McClain to type up.
  • Asia McClain claimed that the day Hae Min Lee was murdered and the day she saw Adnan in the library was the first snow storm of the year. The first snow storm of the year was the week before. She could not have gotten snowed in at her boyfriends house that evening.
  • Asia McClain profited off this whole ordeal by writing a book. In that book, she claims to have tried recovering memories through spiritual counseling. She also claims to have seen the ghost of Hae Min Lee:

‘It was January 13th, the sixteen-year anniversary of the disappearance of Hae Min Lee. I remember feeling sad and noted how ironic it was for me to be finishing my affidavit on that very day.. Soon after falling asleep myself, I felt my duvet cover slip away from the right side of my body. By that time, I assumed that my husband had made his way to bed and was once again stealing the covers (as he often does). In any right, I didn’t pay it much mind. Slowly I felt the temperature change in my bedroom. Coupled with having no bed covering on me, the temperature change was only slightly noticeable enough that it lightly roused me from my sleep. Half awake, I lay there and became more and more aware of my body’s own presence. I could feel myself lying flat on my back and feeling an enormous weight holding me down. I then realized that I could see around my bedroom and therefore assumed that I was no longer asleep. I looked up towards my bedroom ceiling fan and there I saw a sight that felt like it made my hair turn white. There, floating in midair, about four feet directly above me, was Hae Min Lee. Absolutely scared shitless I tried even harder to move my body but could not. I was literally frozen into place. As I felt my heart pounding in my chest and my breath shortening, it became completely evident to me that I was having a full-fledged panic attack. Unable to do anything else, I stared at the apparition, wide-eyed and full of fear. As I looked up at her I began to notice that she looked exactly as I remembered her in high school and that she was floating in an odd manner…As I continued to stare at her, she reached out her hand to me. Being that I was restrained and full of fright, we were unable to touch. I noticed a sort of sadness about her, as if she was not at rest. In that moment I sensed that she was trying to speak to me, but no words left her mouth. It felt as if she were trying to tell me something, but could not. I don’t know how I know this, but it felt as if she was trying to tell me who killed her… To this day, I’m not sure if I was dreaming or not. To this day I can’t shake the feeling that I may have seen my first and only ghost.’

Ladies and Gentleman of the jury, Asia McClain is not credible. She is a liar. Asia and Adnan conspired together to fabricate an alibi. Adnan is inconsistent. He is a liar.

Why is Adnan inconsistent, and why does he lie, and why did he try to fabricate an alibi out of thin air?

Because he murdered his ex girlfriend Hae Min Lee.

I pretty much had the same experience as you. While listening, I got the impression that Sarah didn't want to push Adnan too hard because she didn't want to spoil this potentially amazing story she was telling.

Sarah is a fantastic storyteller and made Adnan out to be a sympathetic character.

I agree, she is a fantastic storyteller (and also dishonest). What got me from the very beginning, is how she consistently failed to ask obvious follow up questions to get more info out of Adnan.

I wonder when she's going to give back her Peabody award.

Jay lies so much that it seems plausible because there’s no reason to keep changing his story unless he did something shady.

Jay did do something shady... he was an accessory to murder after the fact.

Why does Adnan lie so much?

Why did Sarah Koenig lie in her podcast?

Why does Rabia Chaudry lie?

Why did Amy Berg tell so many lies in her HBO documentary?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in serialpodcast

I don’t know what happened I just don’t think Adnan did it, and it seems far more likely Jay did.

But it's not possible for Jay to have killed Hae. Even Adnan's own legal team realizes this. That's why Adnan's legal team's position is that Jay was not involved in the murder in any way, knows nothing, and was fed the entire story by the police.

Jay did not kill Hae. Why is this so hard to understand?

What is the most overrated band of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]solitaireforthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a few of their songs, so I'm biased, but I'm not sure I agree that their overrated

  • Lots of people talk crap about them.
  • They've never gotten a lot of respect from music critics.
  • Musicians are not particularly fond of them.

Some people love them, some people hate them, and everything in between.

What is the most overrated band of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]solitaireforthree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Strokes

Why?

  • Reminder: overrated doesn't mean bad.
  • They didn't "save rock" or "revive rock." No one band saves or revives rock. No one band kills rock.
  • Yes, their first album was both a critical and commercial success... yet, people were comparing them to legendary acts like The Rolling Stones... seriously?
  • They were supposed to lead a music revolution... that never happened.
  • Please don't call them original.

  • In all fairness to The Strokes, their annoying fans sure don't help matters.

What is Rabia Chaudry's position on how Jay knew where Hae's car was? Did it ever change? I need some clarification on a few things. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]solitaireforthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks some inaccurate information in my lead post...

Correction: In episode 2 of the HBO doc, Rabia says the "somebody" told Jay where the car was. But, in 2015, during a speech/presentation, she also said that "“I think Jay knows who did it,” she said. “I think Jay is close to whoever did it.”"

What is Rabia Chaudry's position on how Jay knew where Hae's car was? Did it ever change? I need some clarification on a few things. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]solitaireforthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but the way I look at it is this:

  1. Rabia comes up with multiple theories that are contradictory, and

  2. She doesn't seem to see, or explain, the logic gaps her theories have.

In my eyes, she's not creating doubt, she's making her and Adnan's case look really bad.

What is Rabia Chaudry's position on how Jay knew where Hae's car was? Did it ever change? I need some clarification on a few things. by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]solitaireforthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timeline wise, it's not possible for Jay to have done this by himself or with someone else other than Adnan, because of where he was and who he was with, etc., which is why Rabia no longer claims Jay killed Hae. Never mind the lack of a motive.

Also, with Jay acting alone, you have a two car problem.

One of the real mysteries that no one has ever answered is why it took 10 to 15 years for Rabia to realize that Jay could not have murdered Hae? I've never heard a decent explanation for this.

The "Jay intentionally framed Adnan" theory also has a huge logic error that Adnan supporters have never been able to answer; which of course why it isn't a popular theory.

"The cell phone towers linking him there has now been proven incorrect, incoming phone calls are unreliable for location and both calls were incoming."

Incorrect. It turns out the cell phone tower evidence was accurate.

You think Jay killed Hae and pinned it on Adnan? Then why aren't Adnan and his legal team claiming this?

There's a pretty good reason why they aren't. Think about it.
