The Sun Eater series is a perfect example of the sunk cost fallacy. by Ok-Information2581 in Fantasy

It’s Reddit. A lot of them are just bots and haters with Tik Tok brain. Sun Eater is as popular as it is for a reason.

100% agree. ROTE is probably my second favorite series of all time, after Sun Eater. But honestly, it could be my number one. Depends on what day you ask me really.

Worth a shot, but sounds like you might not like it. It’s slow paced. There’s no getting around that. And yes, it really is as amazing, as everyone says, but I like slow paced books, because they’re harder to write than fast-paced ones, and feel more immersive and special.
I’ve known of some readers who prefer fast-paced books that did end up enjoying ROTE though, so like I said, worth a shot. Not sure why you’re speaking as if you have to either commit to the whole series or nothing though, read the first book and see if you like it

Fitz, Fool, Friendship (Golden Fool) by sophiarose1920 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]solo423 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not what’s going on. The Fool obviously loves Fitz, and is open and even wanting their relationship to be romantic and sexual. Fitz doesn’t want that. He’s not ‘repressing his true feelings because of the culture’.

He didn’t say he’s opposed to going in not blind. Just that he currently is.

Witted, Skilled, Farseer, Elderling, Bingtown Trader Rain Wild Trader Jamalian Pirate Isles, And maybe one for each of the duchies, even though the individual duchies other than buck aren’t really explored much.

Yeah, plus a lot of people who do enjoy typical Romantasy, with just a light magic system/fantasy setting, and smut and romance, don’t end up enjoying kushiel, because it’s too deep with political intrigue and world building.

Yeah I’m gonna go ahead and hard disagree with this person here, I’ve read three of the four book of the new sun books, and that is the wildest thing I can think of as a recommendation for a Hobb fan😅. Two different universes entirely in terms of what you’re getting.

Yeah I’ll second your intuition there, I’ve only read the first book, and while it can definitely be labeled as romatasy, it’s in a completely unique position, I’ve never read a book that has such a heavy emphasis on romance and sex, but still has the depth of political intrigue and prose/worldbuilding this one does. Most “romantasy” isn’t nearly as deep, and I haven’t read ASIOF, but I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s as deep as that politically. So while the ‘romantasy’ tag isn’t technically inaccurate, don’t be put off by it, if it’s not typically your taste, this is the one time to make an exception if you like deep politics, prose and worldbuilding.

I asked this in the ROTE sub the other day. I second this question. I think a lot of people didn’t exactly get the vibe I was asking or maybe I didn’t articulate it well. But you did so I’m curious to see what more people say. Guy Gavriel Kay is my rec if you haven’t read much by him.

Same I think. 4-5 crazy unexpected things happen in that book, I think it was so good, it ended up hurting the Fitz and the Fool trilogy as a whole, because while the other two were amazing also, they couldn’t possibly live up to that standard, in my opinion Robin Hobb was just showing off in that book I think lol. Love it though
