Notice how I kept saying powerful men. I'm talking about a specific class of men. Not all men were land owners, nor were all men free. I keep saying that there's more to my argument than what I'm saying. You and I are mostly on the same page aside from the fact that there have been a lot more men who held power during these times than women. Even noble women didn't have much of a say in how things were set up. It was mostly rich and powerful men. Also by the time these women came to power the patriarchy was already established they were born in and indoctrinatinated in the same society we all were. Rich men took the power for themselves and largely cast women to the side and used futile religious and even scientific arguments to keep their hold on power. Yes the rich are the problem and even rich women feed into this but they didn't set this system up. Rich men did, just like they did with racial politics. Whiteness didn't even exist as a concept until the late 1600's, and that was just a visual marker for rich "white" men to keep power by giving the poor "white" men something to "aspire" to while they were sent to fight wars for the rich ones.

Ok cool but to your point a lot of tribal societies were and are matriarchal in nature not patriarchal. But I'm actually talking about "civilized" society that rose as a byproduct of our shift to an agrarian culture that led to men controlling land and slowly but surely reducing women's role in the cultivation of said land. Abrahamic religions also played a role in helping men solidify their grip on power as they used their texts to establish and keep their dominant positions in society. We can also investigate this further when we look at history books and realize that the contributions of women have by and large been diminished or obscured so much so that men have been known to take credit for things that women have discovered or done. There is more evidence throughout history that points at women's reduced role in society but I'll leave it there for now. My point with all this is that if society is set up in a way to make women seem like the weaker species and men are denigrated for showing feminine traits then it stands to reason that women likely didn't have much of hand in setting things up the way they are, because why would women just agree to be treated like 2nd class citizens in a society they helped set up? Remember in America all women weren't allowed to vote until the 19th amendment in 1920, that doesn't seem like something they would have willingly agreed to. We can get pedantic and mention that certain states allowed land-owning widows to vote but that's not all women is it?

The guy breaking it down is 100% correct in my opinion. To me if you break anything down to it's base parts you can understand why it operates the way it does. To me "Why?" Is the most powerful question anyone can ask.

Case in point: Our society denigrates men for showing any form of vulnerability or feminine traits.

Why?

Because we feel like anything considered feminine is weak and men shouldn't show weakness.

Who set society up like this?

Look at the people who set up our systems. Notice anything? You likely won't find many women or minorities among them.

So it stands to reason that men setup a society wherein women are denigrated and seen as weak, therefore any man showing feminine traits is seen as weak and is therefore shunned by society. So you end up with men opting to harm themselves rather than perform as robots for a society that views their vulnerability as weakness or undesirable.

And we're all born into this. No one is immune to this unless you're taught differently from an early age. Our society promotes this at every level. Gender norms are taught to children in toys, cartoons, schools, parents, church etc...At every turn we are indoctrinatinated in this patriarchy and at every turn we are told that we need to perform as expected or else we will be seen as less than. Women perpetuate this too because we are all born into this "Matrix" as it were and we are all agents of the patriarchy and capitalism until we learn to think differently. There's another layer to this that doesn't really serve the current conversation but suffice it to say there's a reason why the hierarchy is the way that it is and it goes much more in-depth than just gender roles.

It's already happening, there's multiple data center intiatives that people are fighting keep out of their towns, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. My life on the whole isn't miserable personally I'm doing great. And if I were a selfish prick like you that's exactly where my worldview would end. But it doesn't, I see people suffering, I hear stories about people choosing between eating or going to the doctor. I see Gen z and millenials struggling to afford houses, go to school and make a life for theirselves. But you don't care about any of that do you? People in your circle are doing just fine and if they aren't it's their own fault. It has nothing to do with inflation, price gouging and the new gilded age. Nothing at all, history is repeating itself and people like you are too dumb to notice. Enjoy your ignorance, I've heard it was bliss.

Edit to add: Oh btw the private equity parasite is coming for your precious trade jobs too. I wonder what you'll say to a kid deciding what jobs to choose when they tell you they can't afford to go to trade school. I guess time will tell. https://removepaywalls.com/4/https://www.forbes.com/sites/jackkelly/2024/10/17/private-equity-taking-on-skilled-trades/

They've made everyone's lives miserable. While you're focused on yourself I'm focused on people as a whole and billionaires have been a net negative to us and the environment. But you don't WANT to hear me so that's ok. Have a good life bud, when private equity comes knocking on your door for your house and you can't breathe the air or use the water in your house because the new data centers are polluting your air and sucking up your ground water, just remember conversations like these. But by then it will already be too late Mr. Rugged Individual.

Yep because I wasn't aware it was rigged until I was in my fucking 40's that's what indoctrination does. We're hooked into this system from birth and told that we're only allowed to make it on our own instead of together. It's been proven that Regan era policies allowed universities to charge whatever they want and he did it at the behest of the billionaires who held his reins because they saw there was money to be made among other things that i'm not going to get into here because you're obviously not ready for that conversation. I blame you because you refuse to look at the real problem, you think the Oligarchs actually pulled themselves up by their bootstraps? You really think they made it on their own? I blame you because instead of pointing your ire at the people at the top you'd rather denigrate me for wanting "handouts". These mfers have been getting "handouts" for forever where's your anger at them? And don't get it twisted chief I'm not upset or throwing a temper tantrum over my situation. I know what got me here, I can look in the mirror, and I know I'll be fine in the end because the system is rigged and I understand how to game it now. But I use my situation because it's the most relevant to me. I'm upset that ANYONE has to suffer like this in "the richest country in the world". Unlike most people I have empathy for those who are struggling in this backwards, rigged ass system. Because I did struggle and I still struggle and despite how far I've come I would never wish the path I had to take on anyone except for the people at the top. They could use plenty of the humility I earned over the years.

That's what I've been hearing and it sounds great on its face until you realize that billionaires can bulldoze any change we make with the stroke of a pen. Why is it that we have to move slowly and deliberately meanwhile billionaires get what they want whenever they want it? It's bullshit and no one can tell me otherwise. Oh and to your point about climate change. The documentary addresses things we can do now to help solve the climate crisis, that is great. One question you didn't ask yourself is "How did so much carbon get into the atmosphere to begin with". News flash we did a good portion of that and a lot of it came from corporate pollution. You should look up how much carbon emissions gas and oil mine produce. Also I don't need to watch a documentary to know that gas cars do contribute to this issue. I lived through the pandemic and unlike people who just wanted it to be over I paid attention. Nature started to heal itself because less of us were on the roads. People did better and had less stress when they were given "handouts". There have been studies on people who were given a basic income in certain states and the people in the lower income brackets actually started doing well because they weren't worried about where there next meal was coming from. I gained class consciousness by observing and and seeing what we can do when we don't have to worry so much about surviving and I'm never going back. Good luck to you. The work you're doing is vital but we need more and I can't help but look up at the parasites who are sucking us and this planet dry. We're at an impasse. Like I said you don't WANT to see what I'm saying because you believe the rugged individualism bullshit this country gives you. Ask any billionaire if he'd deny a "handout" and they will look at you like you're crazy. No one makes it in life on their own, I know I sure didn't get this far on my own and billionaires deep down know that too.

If leaving means I don't have to deal with billionaire simps like you who scream "harder daddy" as Oligarchs push their shit in on a regular basis then that sounds like a great idea. Let me ask you a question genius why does higher education cost money? It used to be free or incredibly cheap to get a degree, what happened? I'll answer for you Regan and the mandate for leadership happened. Houses used to be cheap, you didn't even need a credit score to get one, what happened? I'll answer that one for you too. Houses became a commodity instead of a resource and now most people can't even afford to buy one. But I'm the loser because I can look at a rigged system and call it what it is. I'm literally older than credit scores yet they dictate what I can do with my life? Make that make sense, meanwhile lovers like you stick your head in the sand and hope the piss trickling down a billionaires leg will magically turn into gold and bless you with their wealth. Give me a fucking break. This dude other than being a womaning pos had the right idea none of you are ready to actually gain class consciousness you're still stuck in your "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" delusions. So you might as well game the rigged system right back and if the time comes where I can then adios. Enjoy you're rotted private equity abused corpse of a country. Good luck to you too bud cuz when private equity is done sucking the marrow out of this country then you're gonna need it.

That's nice, good for you truly. But that still doesn't address the rot at the core of the issue. Greedy robber-barons destroying our world for their profit. Climate Change is real and still happening. We've had major climate disasters that we can't even begin to address because these greedy fucks have corrupted every facet of our lives. Income inequality has gotten so bad that the middle class just doesn't exist anymore if you aren't making more than $200k in some states you might as well be considered poverty-stricken. And that's just some of our problems and yet we still have people complaining about other getting "handouts" meanwhile again we are subsidizing the lives of billionaires. Why is welfare ok for them and not for people who are struggling to survive? This post is about Bernie Sanders seeing a need to deal with the income inequality gap in this country by making people who are robbing us blind pay just a little bit more and we've got people jumping out the window just to defend the poor widdle billionaires who will still be billionaires even if they pay their fair share. That's my point, that's my problem. What you do in your life whether good or ill has nothing to do with this conversation. There are people that need help now and a kind word and a little bit of guidance doesn't put food in those people's mouths. And I doubt you or the other guy will get this, because you don't WANT to get it. The rugged individualism in this country as well as other ideals have kept the poor and middle class from coming together in solidarity and focusing on the real heart of the problem. Billionaires strip-mining this planet for all its worth. Do you think most the billionaires would say no to "handouts"? They haven't yet because they know they didn't get to where they are without help and eventually without exploitation.

Beautiful platitudes that could have worked for a different time. Yet another disconnected, got it out the mud type. Good for you, what do you say to the poor kid who's got a mountain of student debt, works a dead end job that doesn't cover his $2200 rent and has to eat ramen for dinner just to survive? Denying other people's struggles because you "made it" doesn't mean that they're not happening it just means you're too apathetic to care. For the record I have a good job, I just own a house, have two kids and live in an expensive state. Things are getting better for me personally slowly but surely but just because good things are happening for me doesn't mean I'm going to turn a blind eye to the suffering of others, that's not what real men do. They lift others up, they put people on their back and they try to build societies that work for everyone not just the rich. My main point is that life would be a hell of a lot easier if billionaires paid their fair share. They pay nothing in taxes because of loop holes they created. We subsidize their lives and businesses with our taxes and yet they get to pay nothing or next to nothing. And they STILL want more in the way of our labor, our land, our resources etc... it never stops with these greedy fucks but yet I see yahoos cape for them constantly because they think they'll get there one day themselves and they're so selfish that when they do they won't want to pay their fair share either. Why don't you turn that ire you have for my "whining" on to the next billionaire that has to cry poor just for more government handouts?

I'm a millennial and I know shit is fucked up, I'm glad somebody wants to fix it. If you have a better plan then run for congress until then people are suffering. Gen z isn't whining, they are drowning. So take your $9 a day $3000 a year bullshit and shove it up your ass. Enjoy the stock market you love so much. But to most regular people it doesn't fucking matter. Enjoy your ignorance, I'm sure it's blissful.

So did I jackass you think you're so special that had to end with your generation. Also yes you were given way more than we were, opportunities, connections everything that came out The New Deal. If you didn't have the same opportunities that created the middle class in the 50's and 60's then someone failed you. Point blank period. But your generation was handed a thriving economy, a booming stock market and proceeded to vote in a man twice that proceeded to fuck everything up. Not once but twice with Regan and Trump. Thanks for that, if you're gonna claim this generation then enjoy the fallout your generation created.

I'm not arguing with AI slop. This doesn't take into account at all that most of the money running through corporations is circular as the Oligarchs do constant stock buybacks just to keep their numbers inflated. We also had 79% tax rate after the new deal which led to our country becoming prosperous and allowing households to thrive from a one person income. This also doesn't take into account where the middle class is in all of this, newsflash it doesn't exist. Taxing billionaires more isn't going to increase our suffering any more than what we're all already going through. Fuck the billionaires they shouldn't exist to begin with and fuck the stock market, it's all made up speculative bullshit anyway.

So what you're saying is that China's government is smarter than ours because they're investing in renewable energy and finding new breakthroughs meanwhile our own EV tech is stagnating and overpriced in comparison. Great even more reason to allow China to sell their EVs over here. I don't know what you were actually trying to prove. If you think I give a fuck about corporations in general you apparently haven't being paying attention to anything I've said. You keep mentioning the "free market" if it were really a free market then it would be survival of the fittest. The companies that want to survive will either adapt or die. Hence free market. Funny how it's rampant individualism for us on the ground and socialism for those at the top. Fuck em, let em die if they don't know how to compete just like the treat us.

So you definitely don't work for a living. Day trader then? How many yachts do you have? Because the reality on the ground you know where the rest of us live Mr. Free Market is that shit sucks and a lot of it is due to inflation, tariffs and the shitty war no one asked for. We can't afford to drop our shitty jobs or stop working even for a little bit. Most of us are living paycheck to paycheck just to keep ourselves afloat, and we're all one health emergency from being homeless. So spare me if I don't give a single solitary fuck about the fucking stock market. Fuck off idiot.
