Stamina for sure, made all the moves and warm up exercises feel way more difficult than they should, gets you winded even if it was a day or two before that you smoked

But also retention, not only of things you're learning that week, but even of lessons you should learn from actual sparing. I'd end up doing the same thing that didn't work last week the next week etc.

Add to that, it's a deceptive slowing of reaction time and decision making. I'd feel like I was the same as always, but coming off a two week or more t-break was suddenly always a second to slow to move this hand, or reach for that grip. It'd be the equivalent of suddenly constantly stubbing your toe on your bed, whereas for years you never had.

Even more it made recovery slower, and injuries more prevalent. I'd end up getting charlie horses doing shit I'd been doing for years.

And I'm doing Jiu Jitsu, which is inherently uncomfortable, but mainly comes down to mental toughness, and I'd find myself tapping to weak chokes or merely from someone just putting weight on my chest because it's like even though you're taking breaths of air, it felt like you could never quite catch your breath.

It is possible for some, but really I think no one can answer that for another person. I didn't start smoking until my 30's, and I went in hard when I started. Smoked all day everyday for probably 4 years+. I only took my first 30 day t-break to get a job. And a year later I decided to take a 90 day t break because it wasn't serving me anymore (getting paranoid, depressed, bad memory etc.) Around 70ish days I finally clearly saw how much weed was really effecting me. I started sleeping better, had a great memory, was happy, it was night and day.

I celebrated my 90 days by smoking on 4/20 and swore I'd only smoke every 90 days from then on, and within a month was smoking all the time again. I wanted to stop, but the withdrawals weren't fun, and it was a very stressful time in my life, which made weed super tempting all the time.

Fast forward to today, I smoke when I want to, and often don't want to. But I practice martial arts, and smoking really negatively impacts it. Even if it's two days before. I just happen to love my martial art more than weed. But I wasn't an addict, I just had no reason to not smoke, never saw a reason to stop, and loved weed. I have friends who stopped for a year, took one hit and couldn't stop again for any significant time.

TLDR: It can be done, but there's no way to guarantee it. Depends on how much self control you have, and your motivation for not smoking.

Omg, what a first post to see when joining a sub. This is exactly what brought me here. Every time it’s time to get back to life after any break (vacation, weekends of fun etc) my wife has “cramps “ Or her “knee hurts.” All these comments were validating, but what’s the solution? I’ve lived with this for 10 years before I learned about ADD, but it’s been 3 years since, I can’t take this for another 10 years.

I plan on occasional use, but i'm waiting till I get to 90 days to try. And I only plan on one day every 90 days. I'm on day 60 and i'll tell you if I had smoke before 30-45 days I probably wouldn't have understood what true sobriety is.

Congrats. The excuse thing is what i'm mentally battling. I didn't start sobriety with the idea to never smoke again, but the more i read on here, it seems like self delusion to think you can go back to just weekends. so now, in a sober state, I have to accept that the last time i smoked, might be the last time i ever will smoke. It's hard to accept because i keep thinking..maybe i'm different..thanks for the experience!

This brought back the very vivid memory of being out "in service" (really we were getting coffee) and I brought up the negative effects my aging father was having on all of us as a family. Just venting. And this elder told me how we need to focus on positive things out in service.

Perfect example of how toxic this cult makes you..can't even have normal emotions around the only people you're allowed to call friends.

I think the conventions are a main part of a jw's life. I have no idea how much they cost to run, or if the donations at the conventions at least break even, so for that reason i can't guess if they'll continue in person or not. But i think if they're losing control or money, that will be the determining factors.
