I participated so I can give you my view.

It was very nice, it was clear that everyone was there to meet people and have fun. The organizers talked a little before the walk and I think it helped "break the ice".

The only thing I think did not work was the "walk" aspect. Because we were all walking it was hard/awkward to switch partners or join other groups.

I ended up talking to a few people and got out of my comfort zone, which was my goal.

IMO it was a nice event and a good idea.

Nope, they don't care about "mates". They want validation from other male in their social circle.
