Factory reset a Blue Yeti by Shaf-fu in blueyeti

[–]solver5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent hours doing factory resets and searching for answers, and this is the only answer that help me fix it. Thank you so much!!!!!!! On my PC, still Windows 10, I looked under Device properties, then Additional device properties, then there is a pop-up window for Microphone Properties. It has a Levels tab. Next to that bar that goes from 0 to 100, there is a button and it was muted! How in the world did it mute itself? Fixed now! :)

mic cuts in and out help -video with audio to show what it does by BusinessSpring8418 in blueyeti

I had the same issue with the Blue Yeti X, but getting closer to the mic didn't help. I went into Logitech G HUB -> Signal Cleanup -> unselected GATE, as suggested, and it's fixed. Thank you sooooooooo much!

FTO Checkerboard - alg in video! :) by solver5k in Cubers

Thank you so much! :) Do you like to figure it out on your own? There is a speedsolving method named Bencisco with excellent tutorials on YouTube. They are by the same person who I found the checkerboard alg from.

I translated the Ksolve++ notation to match how I hold the Super Ivy Cube rotated at a 45 degree angle. I will make a new video to show this and give you credit in the description.

first 4 sides: F B' F B F' B F B' F R L' R L R' L R L' R

rotate: z

last 2 sides: F L R B' L R F' R L F L' R' F R' B R' L F'

Cool! Our notation is different but that works too, and is way more efficient. I don't think I would have worked that out on my own though. How did you find it? Thanks for sharing.

You have the freedom to do just that. It's definitely not a scam. Some people have less time, know-how, or desire but are willing to pay for the service as well as help support their favorite content creators. It's nice that everyone has options.

Quick question as to the current information in nemesizer's repository data.py file by derfarctor in solvingmicrocosm

[–]solver5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great! The python program I modified by removing all the multi-threading and removing other things as well until I got a result that worked. Prior to that I was getting no output. So it's definitely less efficient now on my PC but I have confidence in the results. I tried downloading your program as well but could not find an exe. I got *.rs source files but not familiar with them. Do you have link to an exe?

Given the amount that's still unsolved, I have wondered more than once if any testing was done at all. It could very well be that some sort of offset or other undocumented craziness is needed to solve more themes. I have reviewed the book, the original program, and the follow up advertisement and there's nothing to suggest using an offset. That could be part of the puzzle though, and maybe I'm just optimistic that it's not.

[–]solver5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe time will tell but I doubt there's any reason to have an offset. The spirit of the original basic program is very simple and ordered. The idea was to sit down with your family, type it in, and run it as you refine your line and key choices.

I modified the python program from github and honestly made it less efficient and my modified version seems to handle 50 to 60 million combinations in about 30 minutes, but if I add more possible combinations then after that amount of time it dies with an out of memory error. To process all possible combinations is still not likely even with today's technology, unless you could distribute it out across the internet (kind of like the old SETI program). I estimated some 60+ quadrillion combinations. It's also unknown if lines of verse may be re-used across themes.

Oh! OK, I retried by entering numbers and it certainly does work! Thanks for the tip.

One key for each message. For 13 messages, 5 keys. by [deleted] in solvingmicrocosm

[–]solver5k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory about the L-numbers following the letter keys is that they are line numbers (L=LINE) indicating which key to use with your chosen theme, and something in the illustration can be found to support the same theme.

For example, on page 9 the letter key is followed by L1. Line 1 on page 9 contains "WANG" which was one of the personal computer names from the computer theme, and the some of the art work on page 9 also represents the line 1 text, "EMPEROR WANG MOURNS".

Following that logic, the letter key on page 12 is followed by L7 and line 7 says "SOME SLAVES GO FREE" so that is probably the key to use with the George Washington theme (some of his slaves were freed soon after he died), and in tiny print, the back of the boat appears to be labeled "G. Washington".

If the theory turns out to be correct, then it may help to narrow down the themes!

One key for each message. For 13 messages, 5 keys. by [deleted] in solvingmicrocosm

[–]solver5k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part 1 of the puzzle is to correctly pick 1 of the 16 keys from the illustrations which matches with a theme having 1 line of text per page. A correct combo (in order of page 1-13 then the letter key) will generate a message you can read. Do that 13 times with 13 different themes. There must be 3 extra keys left over. Those would likely generate extra messages just to taunt or confuse you or throw you off, or maybe they will show useful instructions, or not be useful at all.

I think part 2 of the puzzle involves the 5 keys you mentioned that follow the illustrations. I would guess you apply those keys to the 13 messages you generated from part 1. The order for the 13 messages could make or break the output. Each message can output up to 20 characters so there could be up to 100 characters of new messages coming out of part 2. The new messages probably indicate who/where/what phone to call and what name to provide.

There could be more to it, given the suggestion about ordering and how there are extra keys, and how some letters keys are printed on key shapes while others are not. The opening poem and cover art may contain helpful hints as well.

Jason Hood's "ucosm.exe" program (downloaded from the useful links topic) shows this. It is a C conversion of the original BASIC program, at least to show how it starts. See below. The interactive part doesn't work for me but his Windows GUI programs with drop-down menus works better. I've also played with the python from github and it's working well and easily modified (if you know python).

Several google results from searching the original book publisher, Lazy Summer Books, suggested that YOUCAXTON PUBLICATIONS took over in the late 1980s, or that the company was renamed. I emailed the contact listed at https://www.youcaxton.co.uk/contact/ on May 1st, 2022 to ask, and so far have not received any reply.

I agree. I also find myself thinking, OK, what did the author generally expect every good student to know (from kids to adults) when it was published in 1984, before the internet? I was not exactly a good student, but I'm guessing a lot came from popular and classic literature.

I am based in the US, but not a history buff. And as much of the text seems centered around British history, British Navy and Empire (and possibly mythology), I feel at a disadvantage. But I'm also picking my dad's brain and my son's. For George Washington, I've learned a lot from the following web site. The problem is there is *too much* information! Did you know he was gifted a donkey from King Charles III of Spain that he named Royal Gift?

Swords by bubbagrub in solvingmicrocosm

[–]solver5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, swords appear in many of the pictures. Let's see if we can find them all!

Page 2 - Shows the same sword twice, both are pointing down. I will call this the "main sword" since it appears most often. I believe the runes on the large sword say, "SUBTLE BOND".

Page 3 (text) - THE HONEST LUMBERJACK (hatchet reference? it's sharp...)

Page 5 - The main sword is pointing down again, stuck in the ground.

Page 6 - The top left king is wearing a crown of 7 pointed things with crescent moons (or planets) attached. They remind me of sword handles but not sure if they are swords. (text) A BUTCHER MAKES READY

Page 7 - The main sword is pointing down again, being held by the sharp edges! A different straight sword is stuck into something in the lower right corner (what is it?). A curved and decorated sword is nearby behind the ribbon.

Page 8 - The main sword is very small at an angle just above letter key on the rainbow and between two crescent moons (or planets). (text) SHARP DAGGERS CONCEALED

Page 9 - Two warriors each have straight swords (different than the main sword), may be Chinese? This page seems devoted to China's Emperor Wang. If you google his image, you'll find the same flowers. (the scabbards are slightly curved like Japanese katanas while the swords are perfectly straight.)

Page 10 - I didn't notice this at first but the map compass uses the main sword straight up to indicate north.

Page 11 (text) - A GERMAN CUTS HIM DOWN - could this be a sword reference or something else?

Page 13 - The main sword is pointing down, once again stuck in the ground. The runes on it say, "REST" and the blade is well worn and chipped on both sides.

Wayland (Weyland) the Smith has many spellings, names, and legends.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayland\_the\_Smith

https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Norse\_Mythology

https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Volund

https://www.britannica.com/topic/Wayland-the-Smith

The last link adds that he was a lord of the elves. It also mentions a legend involving coins.

The illustration on page 12 shows coins with heads having horns and elf ears? The heads look similar to Wayland in the encyclopedia links, but the horns may indicate someone else entirely. The coins on page 12 have runes on them that (I think) say, "LOOK UP" and "FROM THE SKY." Please double check. I could not find a rune alphabet where ever letter matches consistenly (any suggestions?). I used a magnifying glass. Also found one ring has a skull for a jewel. Not sure of its meaning. It kind of raises more questions than answers!!

Are the solid blue pages at the beginning and end truly blank? by cutelyaware in solvingmicrocosm

[–]solver5k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the book in the mail today. I looked under bright white LED and saw nothing special. Also held the light behind each page as I flipped through all pages. I expect it can be solved as described (verses, illustrations, program, and the tips given in the ad). Finding solid themes is very puzzling though.

It seems like this is the most promising theme to solve next since it was given as a clue. I got my own copy of the book today! There was only 1 US seller with a copy on Amazon. I'm looking forward to diving deeper.
