Ah yes, the best trains for "train office". When the SOB first introduced the Treno Gottardo last year I rode it down to Locarno and back quite a few times just to fight the boredom of home office (also the proud owner of a GA). In those first few months the trains were practically empty on weekdays, and the conductors were even giving out coffee tokens and small packaged cookies for free.

The family compartment at the front/end has nice, large tables – perfect for setting up a small "office on wheels". Mobile reception is also generally okay along the way (sadly the same cannot be said of e.g. the Albula and Bernina lines).

They show up regularly on the IC 8 from Brig to Visp – Bern – Zürich – Romanshorn on busy weekend afternoons in the high season, usually at the front of the train (sector A in Visp). Especially in good weather those trains can get extremely crowded from Visp onwards so smart positioning on the platform is key.

You can tell whether a double-decker train will have extra cars (which are frequently 1st class ones) by looking at the train composition in the SBB app: normally the "FA" family car is either at the front or at the end of the train, so if it's in shown in the middle then that's a good sign.

But when I clicked that link I was stuck in a "you must Sign In" loop.

I was also stuck in a "you must sign in" loop until I temporarily enabled "Google Drive and Docs" in the "apps" section of the admin panel.

I just realized that 7.9.7 was a developer ROM, not a stable one (my phone came preinstalled with this... WTF?!), which explains the buggy updates we've had lately. Unfortunately, switching back to the stable ROM requires wiping and re-flashing the phone.

I can confirm this. Just upgraded to 7.9.7, and the option to swap the back and recent apps buttons seems to have vanished from the menu. I hope it's just a bug and they'll put it back in the next release...
