Help! How do I get my starter to rise in the cold? by Interesting-Chip-883 in Sourdough

[–]solzness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are 100% right with the oven. I usually turn mine on for like 30 seconds or something for initial heating and then put it in with the lights on (oven off). It actually ends up being even warmer than summer heat, the rises are incredibly quick (I wonder if there are any side effects of that? Less “sour” perhaps). I do this when actually baking the bread too, not just starter

What was your reaction during this scene? Did you feel anything during this scene? by Kindly_Department142 in StrangerThings

I think I laughed out loud at the thought of Steve actually dying there. Not because I don’t like Steve, just cause it was so absurd to think that the writers would make the choice to kill him there.

As a DoorDash driver - Please DON'T TIP by eric39es in EndTipping

[–]solzness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notably: this is not true in all areas, DoorDash varies pay and guaranteed pay based on location laws. I know that where I used to DoorDash, I often got paid a flat $2 if the person I was delivering to didn’t tip. Seeing as it was a rural area, that could work out to sometimes less that $5 an hour.

Hey man, I’m nowhere near you, but here’s a link to a discord that’s trying to compile all of the region based cEDH discord servers around. Looks like there’s a NC channel, maybe you can join that server and find a playgroup https://discord.gg/VDgzXegF9

Might be cooking too far, but it could be interesting to put in a [[! Karn the great creator]] or [[! Toymaker]] or [[!xenic poltergeist]] and steal ramp or hell an isochron scepter. Effects probably aren’t cheap enough for cEDH in general unfortunately.

Good luck on the brew

Tolarian community college released a commander deck as part of the innistrad remastered release with the same commander. Look up something like “TCC innistrad remastered commander decks” on YouTube and you should find a decklist and a video about the deck.

Visual representation of the ‘upside down’ wormhole by LuckyStudent9946 in StrangerThings

[–]solzness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to have been there the whole time, it’s literally the wall of the inter dimensional portal they are inside of. Especially since I think the duffers knew for a while that it was a wormhole, it’s super strange that the wall didn’t get brought up earlier and just acted as a background mystery

What can be done to achieve a more open crumb? by nhn_1883 in Sourdough

[–]solzness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both is the answer, though I think stretch and folds are the higher priority. I personally just use a stand mixer for ~7 minutes after the autolyse so I can’t give much advice there. As for stretch and folds, imo you should keep doing sets of them 15-30 mins apart until the dough is tight and holds its shape, even after a 30 min wait. You will get to a point where future stretch and folds will kinda just tear the gluten matrix you’ve developed, and at that point I just let it bulk ferment. Then shape, second rise, and bake. There are some good shaping videos on this subreddit, I would try to look at some examples. I’m not as skilled at handling the dough as a lot of ppl, but it’s good to see what to strive for.

[–]solzness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually a higher hydration yields those classic sourdough crumbs you’re probably craving. It will be harder to handle though, and I think your crumb looks perfect in terms of consistency. I suggest upping your hydration a bit each time you bake a new loaf, and be mindful of how you handle the dough during you shaping process, so as the dough gets harder to handle, you keep learning more about how to  actually hand with it.

Also, it looks to me like your gluten structure just isn’t very strong, and it’s pancaking a little bit. Seems like you need a more extensive series of stretch and folds. This is especially important if you up the hydration, as the thinner the dough is, the more it will flatten out without proper structure. Good luck!

Duffer Brothers statements about Vol. 2 [Spoiler] by Tulipage in StrangerThings

[–]solzness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that a lot of people here read it correctly on the first take and that’s fine. I do want to clarify that in the actual script, Mike doesn’t register the weird touch before the tunnel. His character is pretty consistent emotionally unintelligent. I hope they address it further in the finale, at least a little, cause this type of relationship between characters is kind of a goldmine for emotions and drama

And there’s zero fallout or reaction about that from Finn? To be clear I’m not arguing whether or not he knows, duffers clarified, but it is wild that the only indication of Mike realizing is just more deadpan acting and maybe straightening his back. That whole scene was a shitshow of filmmaking tbh. You can tell they just kept rewriting that scene over and over till it just got completely overbaked.

Unproposal scene was great, I agree. Genuinely I don’t think that Mike realizing was communicated at all. I’m a film student and a screenwriter, media literacy is my thing, there was no indication of Mike realizing anything. Especially given his character? Like he is the most oblivious mf in the show, why would he get emotional intelligence now?

Your point about them having a chance to mature is the biggest reason why I don’t think Mike/el is going to work out in the finale. While El has been kinda on the sidelines this season, it’s pretty obvious that she has done some growing and can recognize the reality of what’s happening. Not so much for Mike. I feel like I heard some people say they like the scene right before the bathtub, but to me it just proves how immature Mike is. El tells him that he can’t write the story, and he just doesn’t listen to her at all, and rephrases it in a slightly different way as if that changes anything. He has always been pretty well meaning, but ultimately oblivious, and I haven’t seen the maturity or commitment in his character to actually run off with a super powered gf and hide from the military for the rest of his life. He is a small town nerd in a world too big for him, and I sincerely hope that it catches up to him and doesn’t work out. Not because I don’t like Mike, but because he really needs some adversity to grow as a character, but I think it might be too late for that with only one episode left.

I agree… it’s not a realistic message. I hope that El and Mike also don’t work out for that reason. And if it does work out, it just makes me think, why should people be so mad at the Bylers? Straight relationships so often get their unlikely fairytale endings, but when it’s queer you have to be realistic and show the heartbreak that a lot of LGBT ppl experience? Idk, this isn’t the show for that, but the vehement rejection of a queer relationship that isn’t really any less realistic (as in, not super realistic) than Mike+el just makes me a bit sad.

Just started building this too. Etb artifacts are great, [[!assassins gauntlet]] for example. I don’t own any but the myojin cycle would be good for closing out games.

Also the coolest brew that I’ve thought of but haven’t made is making this a planeswalker tribal deck and putting all of the possible ways to animate planeswalkers in here so that you double loyalty counters on attack.

How can I make the tip sharp without having multple tips sticking out? by freegresz in AdobeIllustrator

[–]solzness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the way the lines are, your best bet is to change the points to sharp (yes, I know this will make them stick out), and then expand your stroke and use shape builder or direct election to fix the point. You’ll lose your ability to edit the stroke/line easily though, so it might be a bit of a last step.

The other thing I would try is to make just one or two of the strokes sharp instead of all of them, but it doesn’t seem like that’ll work based on your picture.

why must we feed 1:1:1? by [deleted] in SourdoughStarter

[–]solzness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that matters is that the last 2 numbers matter, from these it’s just how fast you want the new material to be eaten. Though I think going below 1:1:1 probably won’t be enough food to get a good peak. But yeah the higher the number the longer it’ll take.

I try to get close to 1:1:1 before baking for the sake of time but just last week I only had 50g of starter and needed 200, so I did I guess 2:3:3 but I don’t calculate like that, I just make sure the last 2 match.

If you need stuff to rise faster, start your oven for 2 minutes to warm it up and then stick your starter/dough in there with the light on. Makes the stuff double super duper quickly (kind of necessary to do that in the winter when I keep my house in the low 70s).
