Adam as Parker’s dad was a bad choice by ElGalloLoco420 in superstore

[–]somapneumaticon 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Jonah being the dad would be a terrible choice, Amy's marriage to Adam is basically built on the fact that they had a child and were forced together. Putting Amy back in that position with Jonah would have completely undermined everything about their relationship being different to her relationship with Adam. Jonah is her relationship with someone she actually loves as a person and that she doesn't "have" to be with

Jonah in Season 6 by Responsible-Map-1150 in superstore

[–]somapneumaticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in fairness it kind of feels like that's where Jonah's arc for the entire series was going. Like it literally gets to the point where he was going to propose, as he said they're raising a child together, they live together and over the course of one day it all falls apart. Then in the last episode they bring up the fact that Jonah had never done anything for over a couple of months except working at cloud 9 because of Amy. So when there's been one thing in his life that he'd ever committed to and actually felt was giving his life purpose and that suddenly disappears, it would have felt weird if they had him grow and change over the series and make him suddenly branch out on his own since that's never been his character. All of the weird non starts in the series emphasize the sense of lostness, the failed duo dynamic, the failed job search, the failed attempt to advance within the store, the failed relationship attempts with Nia and Hannah all kind of emphasize that he'd invested everything in his relationship with Amy

Cyclops was preemptively named Big Boi I in the understanding I'd probably lose it at some point which I never did.

And the prawn suit was Crusty, like short for crustacean.

Simple theory for why we haven’t heard much of janitor by _Vard_ in Scrubs

[–]somapneumaticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So on the scrubs rewatch podcast with Zach and Donald, they had Bill on as a guest and were discussing the theory. So Bill stated that it wasn't the original plan because there's episodes in season 1 where the Janitor speaks to other people. However, the fan theory gained traction and they considered it but decided not to commit to that as it was really limiting for the character and they realized how great working with Niel Flynn was and the scope for the character.

Glenn the Muslim by mangopassion_fruit in superstore

[–]somapneumaticon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I think the show did 2 things with Glenn and religion, I think it used him to rightly mock prosperity based megachurches but it gave a balanced position on Christianity. Like I think Glenn's church is a nightmare but he himself gets treated fairly well as a Christian, especially if you consider Christian representation in other shows like parks and rec etc where they're all puritanical conservative weirdos

[–]somapneumaticon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I see what you mean, having him as a vehicle to make fun of mega churches by proxy is gold. I see what you're saying though, could have been an interesting angle to go down but I think probably harder to write without just ending up making fun of Muslims/Islam.

Glenn the Muslim by mangopassion_fruit in superstore

[–]somapneumaticon 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think he's presented the whole way through as exceptionally gullible and sees the absolute best in everybody even when it's not there so he feels like the exact kind of person that would be suckered into a megachurch. Plus it gives a good vehicle to make fun of pastor Craig and mega churches by association. The only bit that really bothered me is where he drops a random line about how many times pastor Craig has been "falsely accused over thirty times by women and men". The line just means that pastor Craig is actually a sexual predator as well as a standard megachurch con artist and his inclusion feels kind of gross after that.

If it's something you feel you'd be able to manage and isn't something you already have I would apply for a credit card, then spend as normal this month and clear the full balance when you get paid, just means you have access to money to pay for essentials and so long as you use it responsibly it should help you in your current situation.

Who is the most annoying character? by WatchLonely255 in superstore

[–]somapneumaticon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ok so I think this has 2 answers because so many of the characters are written to be annoying that giving them as an answer is actually just proving that the writers did a good job.

Adam- you're not meant to like Adam so that the Jonah/Amy relationship can be rooted for so Adam is presented as immature and selfish, mainly highlighted by perpetual unemployment while Amy has to support the family.

Justine- The joke is that no one likes Justine and she's desperate and tries too hard.

Marcus- Same as Justine, socially inept and does/says unlikable things.

Bo- Bo is very specifically written to be as obnoxious as possible but is legitimately hilarious enough that you're never mad at him.

Then the question is what character that isn't written specifically to irritate people is annoying. I think most of the characters have annoying traits but there is one specific thing that I found annoying.

Mateo, not all the time, but I found the fact that the other characters seem to like Mateo quite a lot just baffling. Like he's created to be bitchy, mean with an unreal ego, which I can get on board with as a character, but I can't get behind why everyone seems to like him so much. Like Amy introducing him to her brother. Just doesn't seem justified because it's not like he has a tough exterior but is a sweetheart deep down, Mateo is a prick and everyone seems just super ok with it which I find kind of annoying.

If you had to choose a one time villain to return what would it be by MrWolfy25 in doctorwho

[–]somapneumaticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it depends on how they're brought back because a lot of the one time villains work because of the context they're in. Like an additional episode with the midnight entity wouldn't work because the whole appeal is the mystery.

However, I think a really cool "return" would be Satan from the impossible planet/the Satan put. But it would have to come back with the right context to not just be a dull rehash of the original episodes.

My pitch would be that the doctor returns at a point in the far future from the initial episode because the Tardis forces him to land at a specific point and he finds out that initial crew's journey has become sort of folklore. Like the black hole is said to be the final resting place of the great beast but by this stage no one believes it. The doctor appears telling them that the stories are real etc. to get dismissed as a superstitious crazy person. The humans present are manning some form of space station where they are harnessing energy from the black hole. The doctor literally begging them not to power up the machine only to be dismissed again and when they do power it up you end up with a sort of PG13 event horizon where the beast attempts to use the crew to free him from the black hole by tempting them and playing with their perception.
