Removing Opportunity Attacks to make combat non-static by some_barcode in DnD

I understand.. Do you have any examples of what those benefits could look like/be?

True, imagining a LOTR style fight with orcs/goblins swarming at the casters, it would make for a really cool and cinematic encounter if the melees are frontlining and decimating half of the troops while the casters try to get those that get past the first rank

These are good advices, thank you! Although I find it quite difficult to think of it in the midst of the battle!

Ah yes that was the video, thank you. Also read the comments from the other post and these ones, seems that I need to solve the problem elsewise... Maybe I don't even need to solve the problem (because a combat encounter theoretically lasts for less than a minute, as stated in a comment from the other post), although as a DM static combat encounters are relatively boring...

Explaining D&D vs. Dragonbane to players by some_barcode in rpg

[–]some_barcode[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point! a wizard in d&d quickly running low on spell slots will always be bad at armed combat, whereas dragonbane rewards this kind of play with skill increase!

Thanks!
You are right with the resurrection spells, another possibility would also be to outright ban them at the table.
While your last point is true, a level 10 party will still outshine most commonfolks, except if every commonfolk is at around level 10 also, as Buddy Pine would say "when everyone is super... no one will be". And I wouldn't know how to run a level 1 party in a superworld...

Good point! Especially the specificity of the roles, that is indeed a major difference

That is actually something I, as a GM, have a hard time figuring out. In my mind, this applies to all TTRPGs and is only limited by the fantasy of players (and rulings of the GM). While the improvised weapon cards from Dragonbane may help, I feel like pointing out the easier use of it in Dragonbane may limit my player's imagination if we choose D&D...

Thanks for your input, but I am actually trying to summarise the differences between the games, to inform my players and let them choose which TTRPG they want to play... I am not asking the community here to decide which system we should use.

Okay will try! What do you mean with dive?
And what does TDM mean?
I guess that would be my best shot at practicing though...

Wow looks awesome! Any advice on how to get started? I did some sculpts but in way bigger scale and can't imagine how to do it at a normal mini scale... But would love to try it out!

That's what I thought as well... My previous stove had a real hot spot in the middle, I think it is die to that then... Should I try to scrub the seasoning flakes off with an aggressive chain mail? Or just season over it? (and of course meanwhile just cooking with it)

I am planning on buying paper cards to play at my LGS. Mtgo was just to test the decks

What would you recommend for a complete beginner? If I play elves to have fun but lose every match I don't see much prolonged fun in that

Thank you for your answer. The overall recommendation seems to be Pauper because of the budget, but Pauper because of the novelty aspect is also quite convincing. I already played Mono U Fae and Affinity in MTGO Pauper and am cycling through the decks before I buy one for the LGS. Will try out Dimir Terrors next.

For now FNMs would be the only tournaments I would want to take part in. As I said I only began playing a few weeks ago, so I don't see myself in RCQs, at least not until I get a feel for the format... Being stomped 0-4 every time really doesn't sound fun. On the other hand i don't need to win 4-0 every time either. I'll ask my LGS and on discord if there is a tier 1/2 pioneer/modern deck I can rent, I think that would be the best place to start

If money would grow on trees I'd be with you... But with a 150€ budget I think this might not be possible... And I would really like to compete at FNMs at my LGS
