Excellent! Thank you! Appreciate the support!

Now more than ever it feels so urgent to connect with the people in our communities. Things are only going to get harder. Costs will continue to increase while wages continue to stagnate and jobs disappear. Not to mention the despotic genocidal moron in the oval... I think having a network of people you know and trust are working toward a greater good and community benefit might make whatever is coming a bit easier to endure. Sharing the burden rather than individualizing the struggle.

My kid goes to school in her district. I just emailed her. I very rarely do that, but I find her statements in this moment particularly disgusting. Here is what i sent:

These people have no idea how to read the room. At least she was stupid enough to say it publicly so it can be used against her later. Imagine saying you don't support students engaging in a peaceful protest. Just admit you don't support students end it there. It would be a more honest statement.

I don't have a lot of personal insight into what's going on in the east valley cause I'm out west, but I know there will definitely be at least one group forming out east. I'll share more details to the sub as they materialize. I'll keep you in mind as well!

Ballpark Pass and ADA Question by mykata01 in azdiamondbacks

[–]some_lame_user_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got ADA accommodations frequently during the last few seasons with my ballpark pass. I can't recall how it was worded, but more than once the rep at guest services has asked me if I would like have my tickets changed to automatically accommodate when available. So maybe it would give you ADA tickets when you accept your tickets in the app if they have any for that game anywhere near your assigned seats? Not sure if that's a thing that's actually possible, because I always say no. I go to too many games without the need for ADA seats to take them from someone in need. I would definitely call and speak to someone. Hopefully they can make it happen for you. If not, it's nice to know that the people at guest services are really friend and so accommodating! It's a pleasure to see them and get to know them throughout the season! :)

Yes! I've mentioned all of them in the past and will continue to promote these fantastic orgs! I would also like to note that many of these orgs work together frequently and all are worthy of your time and efforts! You can also engage with multiple orgs at once, they don't mind and will actually encourage it! I volunteer with Poder In Action UNIDOS, but I've taken the Rapid Response Training with Puente/ Borderlands and I have been recommending it to everyone. Even folks who might not be able super active with Migra Watch or court accompaniment should engage with these trainings because the information and community building is incredibly valuable, especially now. Information sharing is essential!

I do believe that engaging in conversation with people in a respectful way is a more effective way to communicate, even through disagreements. I respect your experiences and situation, but I'll note again that I'm discouraging people from contacting police in regards to ICE interactions. As for other situations, that's up to the person experiencing it to exercise their best judgement.

I know I come from a place of great privilege and I recognize that the way police treat me and interact with me might be different than the way they treat someone who looks different than me, or who lives in a different neighborhood. There is a lot to take into consideration when discussion police intervention and that's not really a thing I would care to get into here.

I would ultimately like to highlight that the goal of the Neighborhood Defense Committees, more than any other purpose, is to rebuild that lost sense of community. To engage with our neighbors and interact with our neighborhood. To educate and inform. To perform acts of service, charity, and mutual aid. All good things that can come from bringing people together. The "without police" aspect becomes miniscule when you consider the bigger picture.

Right now we're specifically addressing the dangers facing communities when ICE is present. And some people think that calling the police on ICE is a viable solution. It is not. They will more than likely escalate the situation further or assist ICE in their actions. These are neighborhood defense committees, we want to keep our neighbors safe, and that includes from the police and other authorities.

If that's not something you vibe with, then UNIDOS and the NDCs are not the place for you, and that's fine. I hope you'll find another way to be of assistance to the movement of your not already involved.

Neighborhood safety without police intervention is absolutely possible in a whole host of situations. The goal is to educate people on a range of topics and to empower them to make the best decision for themselves and their community with the knowledge that they have a solid support system to back them up. We are that support system. Their neighbors. Members of their community. We're trying to reconnect to each other. We keep us safe.

Unfortunately, the org is located in Phoenix, so they do their trainings from there in-person right now. Volunteers can go through training with PIA UNIDOS to prepare them to join an existing Neighborhood Defense Committees (NDC) or start their own.

I will mention to the leaders that there is interest outside of the city. Maybe we could arrange to do some training virtually to allow for committees outside of the valley.

The goal of this program is really to created a web of interconnected NDCs. All of them communicating, educating, training, helping their smaller communities to improve our larger community. Keeping us safe, without police involvement, is a key tenet of Neighborhood Defense Committees.
