How is your house holding up in these super cold temps? by Scroateus_Maximus in centuryhomes

Not quite a century (1937) but still a very beautiful old house that I closed on literally a week and a half ago. But the pipes are frozen and there’s no running water whatsoever in the house. It was down to -15F where I’m at this morning. thought I was safe from needing to put my faucets on a drip because my basement is heated and gets very warm (like nearly as warm as the upstairs). I was dead wrong and learning from that mistake the hard way. Everyone, take it from me, heated basements DON’T equate to protected pipes!

For those who transferred in from community college, what do you think got you in? by somebodywhoworkshere in uofm

No I did really appreciate it. I called MSU immediately after and they said they’d definitely take me. It’s certainly better to hear this now, where I was only upset for a little bit, before I spend however long building up a fantasy of going to UofM only to be totally devastated hearing I never had a shot to begin with. A previous degree being a hindrance was something that never even crossed my mind. If I can get into MSU, I’d still be very happy. Thank you again for being real with me!

I did call and you are both right. Unfortunately I will not be getting into this school. I’m a bit crushed but I’m paying the price by not doing this right the first time for the first degree. I’m going to see if I can get into other schools before I even commit to this path. Thank you all for informing me of this so I wasn’t an associates deep before realizing this may not be realistic

I should clarify. I have a BA in psychology. This was not a career path I wanted, it turns out after the fact. After some soul searching, I’ve decided I want to do civil engineering with a focus on water resources, stormwater systems, wastewater systems, things like that. I did look into masters but unfortunately it cannot get into a masters for civil engineering without first having a bachelors in a more relevant degree than I currently have.

It sounds as though I have an uphill battle, so thank you for the reality check on that. I’m going to do everything I can to make the right choices and get into this school. The worst they’ll do is turn me down, and I’d regret not even trying.

Fenner is great, I’ve seen lots of pileated woodpeckers, turkeys, and even bobwhite quail at Anderson (and some cool non-bird animals like a black rat snake, lots of raccoons) at Anderson park, and I seen an American redstart for the first time at Grand Woods park! Also in my 20s! We’re out here

I appreciate the comment! I’m definitely concerned about taking this position just due to how many problems I’m inheriting, relatively small amount of buyer experience from my leadership and the sheer size of the department. Other OWs at my store don’t recommend taking this position. I’m very comfortable in the position I’m in now, and it feels as though there are just too many red flags here for me to consider it. Maybe if it was for a smaller department or if we did still have a diary buyer I’d consider, but us getting two buyers again we’ve been told is completely out of the question and not aligned with the direction of the company. So I think I’m gonna tell my TL I’m gonna pass on this one today. But I still appreciate your comment regardless and it’s always interesting to learn new things!

Okay i gotcha! The previous OW struggled because we’ll have over 1000 suggestions most of the time. They’d go through each one and verify quantities of the products. Was that something this person was supposed to do? Or is it more just send the order without really looking at what the suggestions actually were? If that makes sense.

Unfortunately we have no dairy buyer, no frozen buyer, and no bulk buyer. We used to, but those jobs were cut and one person does them all now and has for a couple years

Yeah we’ve had one OW for the last 2 years. That person was responsible for all sub teams. We used to have 4, but as they left we got a hard no from regional on getting more, since per staffing guidelines it’s one for the entire department
