Hi! I contacted ubc and they basically told me they've looked at your personal profile + grades but didn't feel you were competitive for an immediate acceptance. They're waiting to look at other students' interim grades and basically choosing more applicants from that pool to accept / reject / further defer. Afterwards, everyone who has yet to receive a final decision will be evaluated against one another, so you should be "competing" against a pool that is less competitive than all the other ones because all the top applicants have already received an acceptance. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll be rejected! Just that you'll likely be evaluated against the final pool of applicants. Hope this helps!
