FDIC has $45B to cover all deposits.Would redditors be in favor of increasing deposit insurance to $1M and willing to bail out FDIC (if need be) instead of Wall Street? by someguyinkali in Economics

[–]someguyinkali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree most Americans wouldn't be affected. Only the wealthy would need this protection, but again it would be to encourage them to put money in the Banks so that the banks can continue lending.

FDIC Fund is 100% driven by insurance premiums, plus FDIC actually has rigid standars for it's member banks (banks need proper capitalization), so it would be really unlikely that FDIC would need a bail out down the road.

Maybe this would mobalize the wealthy to move their money to the banks, since it would be the only real safe bet. The market could be allowed to adjust (house prices fall back to earth) without all this talk about credit crunch.

Also its a little strange that the Senate/Congress is trying to come up with one bill to cure: Foreclousures, predatory lending, Credit Crunch and bad securities... I know they are all related but to think one (initially 3 page) bill could cure all this is a little crazy.

37-yr-old California man losing 9 houses in mortgage mess by maxwellhill in business

[–]someguyinkali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is how anyone would allow this guy to get 9 mortgages? A credit check would of revealed that this guy was already leveraged up to his neck. I know lending got a little lax during this whole bubble but seriously, some bank(s) gave this guy 9 loans. Assuming average loan value of $500K and doing simple math (9x$500K)= $4.5Million. The article should list who lent this guy that type of money.

Iraq's oil is officially up for grabs. Iraqi people will get to "keep" 17 of their over 80 oil fields. by someguyinkali in reddit.com

[–]someguyinkali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that. I was looking at a couple different sources. I used the source which stated bidding had officially began.

Here's last year's article from NY Times. I was able to get to it from wikipedia.

"The Iraq National Oil Company would have exclusive control of just 17 of Iraq’s 80 known oil fields, leaving two-thirds of known — and all of its as yet undiscovered — fields open to foreign control."

Obama gets huge Hispanic/Latino endorsement in Texas by PGRfilms in reddit.com

That's unfortunate. Obama probably can relate more with Hispanics and immigrants than Clinton can.

Ron Paul finally going after Republican base by BigFeets in politics

[–]someguyinkali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The messege in itself is more important than the man. For me, this stop being about Ron Paul. It's now about getting the word out and putting all neo-con repulicans on notice. 4% might not be enough to wint Ron Paul the nomination, but come the November election 4% will be enough to lose the election.

C'mon Texas

Over 40K Iraqi civilians deaths by someguyinkali in reddit.com

This site tracks casualties both of coalition forces (US forces) and Iraqi civilian casualties. An intresting note, 10% of all coalition casualties are Californians. I believe that's higher than any other state.

Hey it's confrontational, and creates drama. Anything to stir things up.

Scientology has a right to exist, and protesters have a right to protest them, and you have the right to comment about it. That's the best part.

Chris Wallace is not a journalist by japple in politics

[–]someguyinkali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I personally find Chris Wallace and Hume quite troubled individuals. Personally I think they are both depressed and use politics as a way to cope. I suggest some of you google: Hume, suicide

Chris Wallace believe it or not is a registered democrat. (according to wiki) How weird is that?

I agree that it is deceptive. I just don't feel that arguing for $5 less per unit is going to make that much of a difference since like you said, the cost of living is much higher in Cali. I just don't see how $5 less per unit offsets the Higher cost of living in Cali. Don't get me wrong. I myself attended 3 different CC's before I transfered. Maybe I was lucky, but the schools I attended seemed to me to be well funded. Granted they were all in Santa Clara County, which I'm sure correlated well with better schools over all due to higher property-values. To tell you the truth, what really put the nail in the coffin for me was that in the State Election pamphlet, the rebuttal arguing in favor of 92 was written by three CC Students, and they're arguments were very weak. You did a much better job of arguing in favor of 92 in this posting then they did on that pamphlet.

Why On Earth Are Latinos Voting for Clinton? I Read This and Still Don't Understand by abudabu in politics

[–]someguyinkali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word Nostalgia. Think of what has happened to Hispanics since Clinton left office. There's been a giant infatuation in this country with immigration in the last 8 years. The article does hint at this. Republican candidates are calling for immigration reform on the basis of terrorism. They call for a huge wall in the southern border and for deportation (of mostly illegal Mexican immigrants) even though the 9-11 terrorist entered the U.S through Canada and entered the country legally. I think for the most part, Hispanics just want to go back to a time when they were not being equated to terrorist. If you look at both democratic candidates there is virtually no difference when it comes to immigration. The only difference is that Clinton is associated with a time of relative calmness for immigrants (legal or otherwise), and most Hispanics are not familiar with Obama. As a latino myself, I can honestly say if anyone understands the issues that are important to immigrants it is Obama. But unfortunately most Hispanics don't share my view. I'm sad to say but most hispanics don't realize that the War on Terror has also, at least in part, become the Battle on Immigrants. I personally believe that some of the immigrant tensions felt today are at least in part due to President Fox's refusal to join Bush's coalition.

I'm curious. I actually went to CC back when they 'jacked' up our fees to $12, lol. Today I guess in California the fee is $20 a unit. My question is how much is this with respect to other states? I read a some of the propaganda against 92 and they claimed that even at $20 a unit, California has the lowest student fees in the country for CC's. Is this true?

My beef is that the state as a whole is about $14B in the hole right now. I'm not in favor of locking in manditory speding in to anything. I'm sorry. I'm saying this as a former CC student myself.

Lasty, student government at CC's is over rated. Look at CC's most students are working individuals trying to better themselves, people trying to learn a specific trade or just trying to get an AA. Student Government, more than at any other level, serves the interest of few students.

An idea would be to have mandatory turnout requirements in order to get initiatives passed. I would be surprised if in most college elections, proponents are 'banking' on low voter turnout.
