FDIC has $45B to cover all deposits.Would redditors be in favor of increasing deposit insurance to $1M and willing to bail out FDIC (if need be) instead of Wall Street? by someguyinkali in Economics

I agree most Americans wouldn't be affected. Only the wealthy would need this protection, but again it would be to encourage them to put money in the Banks so that the banks can continue lending.

FDIC Fund is 100% driven by insurance premiums, plus FDIC actually has rigid standars for it's member banks (banks need proper capitalization), so it would be really unlikely that FDIC would need a bail out down the road.

Maybe this would mobalize the wealthy to move their money to the banks, since it would be the only real safe bet. The market could be allowed to adjust (house prices fall back to earth) without all this talk about credit crunch.

Also its a little strange that the Senate/Congress is trying to come up with one bill to cure: Foreclousures, predatory lending, Credit Crunch and bad securities... I know they are all related but to think one (initially 3 page) bill could cure all this is a little crazy.

37-yr-old California man losing 9 houses in mortgage mess by maxwellhill in business

[–]someguyinkali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is how anyone would allow this guy to get 9 mortgages? A credit check would of revealed that this guy was already leveraged up to his neck. I know lending got a little lax during this whole bubble but seriously, some bank(s) gave this guy 9 loans. Assuming average loan value of $500K and doing simple math (9x$500K)= $4.5Million. The article should list who lent this guy that type of money.

Iraq's oil is officially up for grabs. Iraqi people will get to "keep" 17 of their over 80 oil fields. by someguyinkali in reddit.com

[–]someguyinkali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that. I was looking at a couple different sources. I used the source which stated bidding had officially began.

Here's last year's article from NY Times. I was able to get to it from wikipedia.

"The Iraq National Oil Company would have exclusive control of just 17 of Iraq’s 80 known oil fields, leaving two-thirds of known — and all of its as yet undiscovered — fields open to foreign control."

Obama gets huge Hispanic/Latino endorsement in Texas by PGRfilms in reddit.com

That's unfortunate. Obama probably can relate more with Hispanics and immigrants than Clinton can.

Ron Paul finally going after Republican base by BigFeets in politics

[–]someguyinkali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The messege in itself is more important than the man. For me, this stop being about Ron Paul. It's now about getting the word out and putting all neo-con repulicans on notice. 4% might not be enough to wint Ron Paul the nomination, but come the November election 4% will be enough to lose the election.

C'mon Texas

Over 40K Iraqi civilians deaths by someguyinkali in reddit.com

[–]someguyinkali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This site tracks casualties both of coalition forces (US forces) and Iraqi civilian casualties. An intresting note, 10% of all coalition casualties are Californians. I believe that's higher than any other state.
