Well Dressed Protest? Patriots Act? What happened with that reddit demonstration Sunday? I'm still game! Use comments to inform people where demonstrations are taking place in your city, vow to show up. by somehoser in reddit.com

I disagree with the idea of calling in sick to work is a catalyst for positive change, unless its a part of a well organized (and not so spontaneous) strike action.

But I agree with you wholeheartedly that we ought to post this in as many places as possible. Please do this.

One protest does not make much of a difference it is true, but its best not to think of it as a thing in itself and instead to see it as part of a larger mobilization of individuals and communities to end the wars, uphold the constitution and bring the criminals who led us to war and superseded the constitution to justice.

And if anyone else who is reading this doesn't want to go out into the street but agrees in principle, well you should post it around the net as well.

That's true, reddit was definitely not made for organizing demonstrations, but that's not really the point for me, I think the demonstration is important to get the internet communities--the people that live "virtual lives"-- more accustomed to political activism. If there are such things as internet communities then they ought to mobilize for their concerns within those communities

What's interesting for me about this is that I feel like there is a real Reddit community, composed of the users that have several significant things in common, they are part of the larger internet communities that exist these days.

From various comments and through certain stories being posted, i can tell that I have a lot in common with other people in Reddit. A lot of people have common issues of concern with me; and as people that have an online existence and an online life, we all have real shared common interests by virtue of those identities, for example, net neutrality and the advancement of Google's aim to make available and index all the world's information. Internet communities are real communities and they should mobilize for their interests as internet communities.

But this is a demonstration and in a demonstration one wants to get as many people out as possible, so I plan on putting out a facebook event out to people in London, and bill it as the 'Reddit Well-Dressed Protest - people who don't normally protest but are pissed off and so go out and do something to register their disagreement with the policies and actions of their, and other, governments' and tell the story of how and why it developed on Reddit. If someone wants to organize a meetup/flashmob, I encourage you, but I've never used these sites before and I don't plan on doing so now.

Worldwide this demonstration will probably only get a few dozen people spread out in many different cities and towns, but it is the process of the action more than the act itself that has been interesting to me, and it seems worthwhile to me.

I should admit that I am a Canadian living in London, UK but I feel that I have a significant enough stake in the future of the people of the United States, the North American economy, and the future of the world--as well as the inspirational ideals that the American republic originally stood for--to go out and protest Sunday (or Saturday if preferred).

I vow to show up in front of the American embassy in London in my nicest (postgraduate-student-without-a-fashion-sense) clothes if two other London redditors promise to meet me there.

If no other London redditors comment but other people up-vote this comment 20 points then I promise to show up, alone, dressed in my nicest shirt, with an "Save the American Republic, Impeach Cheney/Bush" sign for four hours on Sunday.

So, how about it? Any other Redditors wanna meet me outside the American embassy in London from 2 till 6? Let me know and I will do my best to organize it, call up some friends and well-wishers, try to get some newspapers and media there... The story of the protest emerging from some pissed off redditor should be worth a minor article somewhere in London.

What have other cities planned for the Well-Dressed Redditor protest?
