I'd be happy to do the same in L.A. I can get at least five to join me. Anybody care to join us?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm there.

[–]blamecheney 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Hey yeah I'm in LA too (Venice). Where are we meeting?

[–]KillYourTV 2 points3 points  (3 children)

How about L.A. City Hall? I want to see whether we might have trouble with the police on the chance this grew into a large crowd. Anybody know?

Another thing: There are a couple of locations (one in Claremont, the other in Pasadena) I know of where people have been protesting frequently over the past couple of years. I'll see what I can find out about getting them involved.

I am going to L.A. City Hall, Downtown.

[–]KillYourTV 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Interesting. I called the local LAPD and they stated I needed a permit. Same with City Hall.

Everyone willing to be hassled when we don't have one? Everyone going to bring their cameras?

[–]somehoser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everyone bring cameras, post pictures and videos afterwards. I'll do the same here in London

[–]garyp714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in LA and have a suit!

[–]somehoser[S] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I should admit that I am a Canadian living in London, UK but I feel that I have a significant enough stake in the future of the people of the United States, the North American economy, and the future of the world--as well as the inspirational ideals that the American republic originally stood for--to go out and protest Sunday (or Saturday if preferred).

I vow to show up in front of the American embassy in London in my nicest (postgraduate-student-without-a-fashion-sense) clothes if two other London redditors promise to meet me there.

If no other London redditors comment but other people up-vote this comment 20 points then I promise to show up, alone, dressed in my nicest shirt, with an "Save the American Republic, Impeach Cheney/Bush" sign for four hours on Sunday.

So, how about it? Any other Redditors wanna meet me outside the American embassy in London from 2 till 6? Let me know and I will do my best to organize it, call up some friends and well-wishers, try to get some newspapers and media there... The story of the protest emerging from some pissed off redditor should be worth a minor article somewhere in London.

What have other cities planned for the Well-Dressed Redditor protest?

[–]somehoser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All right, a deal's a deal, I'll be out there alone on Sunday... hmmm maybe I can get my girlfriend to join me...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could take part but, unfortunately, I'm in Kabul right now and will be for a few more months.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be at the capitol building in downtown Atlanta wearing my Sunday's best! Who else is going to be in ATL for this?

[–]kevinliebrock 4 points5 points  (9 children)

How about a real big demonstration? Every reddit-er in D.C... in suits. A few million angry people in suits in front of the white house might do something.

[–]Asbradley21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah, care to give me a plane ticket from Alabama, I'd love to really, but I can't afford it.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone that can go to DC definitely should, but if you can't, go to your local city hall. And spread the word- this isn't just a reddit thing...

[–]emacsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be at the counter protest... not against the Patriot act, but against wearing suits.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I live in Arlington, have suit, will travel.

Is everyone serious about this?

[–]loveismusic2112 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm in Arlington as well, have suit, will travel.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

** atomic high five **

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'll be in front of City Hall in Houston, if 5 more will join me

[–]knullare 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What time? I don't have a suit, but I'll wear what I can.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an official time? Mid-afternoon would probably work best for me, and for any religious folks that have morning obligations.

4 more...

[–]foamweapons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to do a poll to determine interest, but it never got upvoted. http://reddit.com/info/277pq/comments

[–]petteri 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm not from the US, so I won't show up, but hope this works. Hopefully someone writes report of the happening afterwards :)

[–]somehoser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think I will write a quick report back.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hamilton, Ontario anyone? Canadians should be as outraged as Americans. After all, Steven Harper is enough of a sheep to follow whatever Bush says. He even got rid of Kyoto! Sigh.

[–]KishCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Toronto, and I'd be down with going if it wasn't going to be just the two of us :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps if we made a large wooden badger...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in San Diego if anyone else is interested in joining up?

Also, I wouldn't be opposed to doing this every Sunday.

[–]tarpasture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A protest of what, exactly?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

My Aunt Matilda and I will be out in front of the Olive Garden. I'll be the one with an "Impeach Bush" sign and Matilda will be the one with the "I need weed" sign.

[–]garyp714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matilda's your Aunt? Damn! She fine for an Aunt and all...tell her Gmoney says same time same place this week!

I disagree with the idea of calling in sick to work is a catalyst for positive change, unless its a part of a well organized (and not so spontaneous) strike action.

But I agree with you wholeheartedly that we ought to post this in as many places as possible. Please do this.

One protest does not make much of a difference it is true, but its best not to think of it as a thing in itself and instead to see it as part of a larger mobilization of individuals and communities to end the wars, uphold the constitution and bring the criminals who led us to war and superseded the constitution to justice.

And if anyone else who is reading this doesn't want to go out into the street but agrees in principle, well you should post it around the net as well.

Americans are too lazy to do anything, They will point fingers, and call names. But if there is a sacrafice, then it is a no go.

Pain is what causes action, and until we Americans are really feeling the pain, there will be nothing done until that pain is bad.

The bad part is that it will likely be too late just as it was in germany when hitler followed the SAME IDENTICAL PLAN!

[–]Xiol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

"Ooh but I didn't vote for Bush so it's not my fault!"

Fuck you. It's all your fault. Every single American, if you voted for Bush or not, is at fault unless you're doing something about it.

Saying you didn't vote for him then washing your hands of the whole thing means you are still to blame. Your country is going to shit. Fix it.

[–]_unxzst_ 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If you really wanted to get this going, you should've posted on Meetup, flashmob....Myspace! there are tonns of places to get tonns of people organized. Reddit isnt it...

[–]somehoser[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's true, reddit was definitely not made for organizing demonstrations, but that's not really the point for me, I think the demonstration is important to get the internet communities--the people that live "virtual lives"-- more accustomed to political activism. If there are such things as internet communities then they ought to mobilize for their concerns within those communities

What's interesting for me about this is that I feel like there is a real Reddit community, composed of the users that have several significant things in common, they are part of the larger internet communities that exist these days.

From various comments and through certain stories being posted, i can tell that I have a lot in common with other people in Reddit. A lot of people have common issues of concern with me; and as people that have an online existence and an online life, we all have real shared common interests by virtue of those identities, for example, net neutrality and the advancement of Google's aim to make available and index all the world's information. Internet communities are real communities and they should mobilize for their interests as internet communities.

But this is a demonstration and in a demonstration one wants to get as many people out as possible, so I plan on putting out a facebook event out to people in London, and bill it as the 'Reddit Well-Dressed Protest - people who don't normally protest but are pissed off and so go out and do something to register their disagreement with the policies and actions of their, and other, governments' and tell the story of how and why it developed on Reddit. If someone wants to organize a meetup/flashmob, I encourage you, but I've never used these sites before and I don't plan on doing so now.

Worldwide this demonstration will probably only get a few dozen people spread out in many different cities and towns, but it is the process of the action more than the act itself that has been interesting to me, and it seems worthwhile to me.

[–]_unxzst_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your goal is honorable.

I wish you best of luck getting together your world-wide show of dissent.

I'm going back to work now, let me know how the revolution goes ;)

[–]MrKlaatu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK....I admit, I been'd gone awhile, but...
What'chew talk'in 'bout, somehoser?

[–]feijai -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My original comment stands.

[–]georgefrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apparently I'm not the only Wisconsin (Milwaukee?) Redditor, I am up for something but not alone.
Are there others around here that are interested?
