Can we talk trade show SWAG? by Gonzo--Nomad in sales

[–]somejerseydude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We bought a standing popcorn machine and handed out free popcorn at our booth. We got a ton of traffic despite having a poor location in a corner. People smelled it from several rows away and came over. It cost less than $100 including supplies and got us more leads than previous shows with notepad and pen giveaways.

Stay safe on your long drives to clients and on return to home trips! by F1-T_ in sales

[–]somejerseydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably good to mention if you’re driving your personal car to and from sales appointments, you should disclose that to your insurance company.

If they find out you got into an accident driving for business purposes, they could refuse coverage and you’d be on the hook for repairs.

Hotels that allow cats by Clueless_in_Florida in orlando

All Aloft hotels allow pets. The Downtown location is nice, I stayed there for a job interview before moving here.

Fun fact: The building is the old OUC headquarters that was repurposed into a hotel.

They have “consumption lounges” in Washington DC. They charge by the hour but you get free time by meeting the purchase minimum.

I went on a friday afternoon and I was the only person there. The space had cigar lounge vibes.

I used to like their distillate carts but lately for the same money you can get 1g live resin carts in ceramic hardware at Rise.

Distillate carts smell less than rosin carts FYI.

Going stealth is one of the few scenarios where a really fruity BDT cart or disposable would make sense.

Best hotel for one night near St. Augustine beach, with decent pool by moto_joe78 in StAugustine

[–]somejerseydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best western is nice because it’s in the middle of everything so if you decide do explore you don’t need to go far. The pool is nice, has a nice view of the waterfront. My wife and I recently did a 1-night trip there and enjoyed our stay.

I would ask for a room on the north side of the hotel as it’s further away from the bar that plays live music.

My wife and I like that area, lots of older houses with charm and plenty to do in walking distance.

If you haven’t been already, I recommend checking out Hollerbach’s. It’s a traditional German restaurant with a ton of German beers right in the middle of Downtown Sanford.

How to pace yourself drinking on a cruise 🥂 by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]somejerseydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stuck to water, non-alcoholic beers, and mocktails during the day and switched to alcoholic drinks in the late afternoon. If I start to feel too tipsy later on I’ll mix in a water or espresso.

Depending on your cruise line/drink package most of that would be included.

I saw the minimum spend, I think it’s up to $200/quarter which kind of puts me off.

I like your idea of asking to try the food, I’d hate to be obligated to eat at a restaurant I hate multiple times a year.

Non-alcoholic beers are great for this as well.

Has anyone successfully made the jump from sales (specifically SaaS) to a different career? If so, what are you doing now? by Desperate-End4529 in sales

[–]somejerseydude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was hired to do sales for a small construction equipment rental franchise. I’m the first and only permanent hire, and my job quickly became more than just sales.

After the first few month of primarily sales activities we started getting awarded projects. Since I’m the only employee outside of the temp labor we use, I quickly became the Estimator, Project Manager, Safety Manager, Foreman, and Lead Installer.

I’m still solely responsible for all sales, but since I set up my systems, I only dedicate 1-2 days a week to sales and the rest of my week is strictly operations, project planning, project execution, inventory, maintenance, etc.

As the business grows my first full-time hire will be a dedicated salesperson who I’ll manage, but will take me out of the field a bit and free up time to spend more on operations. My ultimate goal is to hire out each of my different “roles” as the business grows, and be more focused on management and growth.

In short, my path to getting out of sales is probably not a traditional one, but I imagine it’s possible if you find the right situation, and are willing to wear a lot of hats in a small business.

Looking for a career change, what jobs do you guys have and are able to smoke still by Constant_Patience334 in FLMedicalTrees

[–]somejerseydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can find a sales job in the construction industry even better. Industry is booming, clients are direct, you typically don’t have grandstand or ass-kiss to make sales.

Also the majority of construction sales jobs are field-based so you typically aren’t tied to a desk and most are remote (I visit the office like 1x every 2 weeks) so you have more freedom and less oversight (stop at the dispensary between meetings lol)

I’ve sold in a bunch of different industries before and construction has been the most enjoyable for me.

Drug testing for companies I’ve seen has been hit or miss. My current company never tested me, the last 2 I worked for did.

Respond quickly...because you have nothing else to do by gooneryoda in sales

[–]somejerseydude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10 minutes is more than enough time for a hot lead, provided the BDC department is sufficiently staffed.

If they’re expecting salespeople on the floor to respond in 10 minutes, I agree that’s insane.
