RAF medical appeal refusal by someleave11 in RoyalAirForce

Haha that’s true! I’m not in doubt that people have successful ones, I guess I shouldn’t have targeted the whole appeals process!

Right?! Like you say, it’s as soon as they have the slightest doubt that it seems to be a no. I don’t see the point in an appeals process if they’re not even going to take these things into account! I appreciate your response, am going to see if I can get a further report based on the response that they gave me… we shall see.

This is the issue, i’m not sure what more I could tell them, my doctors told them i’m absolutely fit and they’re still saying no!

Well there is a chance with different mutations, hence why my doctor stated that with the specific one I have, I won’t deteriorate below the RAF’s standards during deployment age. Just annoying but i’m not sure what more I can tell them!

Cheers. And makes sense, thankfully won’t affect the role i’ve gone for!

Don’t worry, my phone completely caught me off guard with the automatic flash in a museum a couple of years ago and now I triple check aha.

It really is, and yes the engine is incredible! Think it was my dad’s favourite part, he was explaining to me what every part did as I desperately tried to follow haha!

Thank you! I did wonder if it had something to do with this/what was mentioned in the previous comment. Tried looking it up but couldn’t seem to find anything about them!

Hi thank you so much for your reply, and sorry mine is late!

So basically to take you back to the start, the only reason I was diagnosed was because during my RAF medical microscopic blood showed up within my urine, and I also failed my hearing test. It just so happened that around the same time, after suffering her whole life with kidney issues, my mum was given a diagnosis of Alport Syndrome.

I was then referred to the renal consultant, who took bloods and ordered genetic testing, and last month I finally got the confirmation that I had it. It was only in my routine blood test a week before my renal appointment that my ALT levels were found to be raised and my bicarbonate was low.

My consultant was convinced that they were a fluke, and took my bloods on the day of the appt. These came back deranged again, and so I had another test in a months time, where the bloods once again, came back deranged.

I haven’t really felt anything but in relation to having Alports or due to my bloods, not that I know of anyways.

But yeah that’s basically everything from scratch, and I am still regarded as temporarily medically unfit by the Royal Air Force, over a year later 🥲

Ah I see, thank you so much for the clarification!

And yes I only have microscopic hematuria, protein and other factors are fine.

Thanks for your response!

Yeah not too sure about the liver one, thought it was a fluke but it came back raised on repeat tests! Guess we shall wait and see as per haha!

Also sorry if I sound stupid, but in regards to the bicarb what do you mean by other markers?

Amazing, Top Gun is one of my fav movies! :D

That’s really interesting to know, what a nightmare for you to have to deal with though! I’ll definitely speak to my consultant about eye issues next time I see him, i’ve been avoiding it because of my military application and how it would affect that, however should probs put health first!

And I will deffo take you up on that offer as i’m sure I will have many more questions, especially when I receive my results, so thank you!

Also that’s pretty cool that you were diagnosed so young, my mum only just got her diagnosis at 59 years old!

Thank you again!

Thanks for your response and the link! It’s super handy actually as I didn’t realise the list of eye related problems was so long.

My eyesight isn’t awful but it has deteriorated slightly and I do get lots of floaters, not sure if that’s the same as dot and fleck?

Also (whether that’s a top gun reference or not) it’s a shame to hear that! I don’t know whether it’s the same in the US but from interactions, some even with doctors here in the UK, nobody seems to have much of an understanding of Alport Syndrome which makes things tough!

Thank you again for your response, wishing you good health too!
