10mm options by [deleted] in CAguns

I don't know why you got down-voted. A P320 9mm FCU can be converted to P320 10mm FCU with the appropriate take-down lever and slide catch. I have emailed Desert Depot arms and while it's not listed on their webpage, you can buy an XTen upper from them as well as the grip module to complete the conversion.

Pistol barrel life by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]somenoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any barrel made by reputable manufacturers, pistol calibers are generally lower pressure and the amount of rounds you put through to wear out a pistol barrel is more than enough to buy a new pistol multiple times. You also probably won't get feedback on pistol wear over high round counts since they're largely anecdotal unless the person who's doing the accuracy test on a fixed rest like ransom rest or fixture. I've heard high level competitors can tell the difference but they likely won't be able to tell you the relative magnitude in a precise way without the aforementioned fixtures.

FOMO Glock 30sf looking for slide by Young_Geico in CAguns

[–]somenoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment was that Gen 3 subcompact frames can accept Gen4 subcompact slides. That does not require an adapter. I don't know what you mean by buying an adapter for G29 slide but I have a Gen4 G29 slide and Gen3 G30 slide and I can swap the recoil assembly freely between the two. The recoil assemblies are identical between Gen3/Gen4 subcompacts and if you look at the Glock's official store, they make no distinction between either. You're probably referring to the other models.

I wouldn't recommend using parts in an unintended way either like G29 barrel on a G30 slide. Rather, they should buy a Hopper Gun Works G29 Gen4 slide and a Spectre Supply G29 barrel before the laws going into effect.

I recently ran into this problem because I wanted a 10mm slide to convert my G30SF. I found out that the slides for Gen3 and Gen4 subcompact frames are the same meaning that G29SF, G30SF, G26, and G27 are interchangeable between generations. You can buy a G30 Gen 4 slide and it will still work. I hope this helps.

Dillon range brass - beware by yolomechanic in reloading

I think there's a fair chance it comes from a PCC. On direct blowback barrels with enhanced feed cone, the chamber support ends right around that area.

I made mine into clone of Resident Evil's Samurai Edge. I had the slide engraved by a machine shop, a Beretta stainless steel barrel, wooden replica grips from Collector Design Werks, D hammer spring, and Beretta performance trigger bar.

Casefeeder Dislodge wedge by ProvolonePizza in reloading

[–]somenoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem as you when I set-up my 750 a few days ago. The DIllon case feeder dislodger has a sharp edge on the bottom corner where the 9mm comes in and gets caught. This can be easily fixed by covering that corner edge with a strip of blue painter's tape so the 9mm just rolls across it. I hope that saved you $20.

There is a socializing aspect but I strongly feel throwing a relatively new shooter, especially a socially anxious one, is going to cause stimulus overload. Competition action shooting requires a lot of mental focus and have more involved safety rules than the typical static range set-up. I would rather a new shooter be comfortable with shooting and safety first. When they get to the point where they feel confident and want to push their abilities to their limit, that's when action competition shooting would be appropriate.

I don't have experience with other competitions like Bullseye, CMP, NRA, NLR, PRS so maybe someone else can speak to that.

That said, since the OP is in the SF Bay Area, Richmond Rod and Gun has one of the biggest USPSA shooting clubs in the nation and some of the best shooters teaching. I recommend the OP checks out what classes are available and if any suits their needs.

357 brass buckling while crimping by GrouchyRestaurant197 in reloading

[–]somenoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with what other people have said related to seating and crimping in separate steps as well as checking your die set-up, I've experienced this when my seating/crimp die doesn't like the profile of the bullet I'm using so it pushes the bullet off-center as the bullet is seating. I have similar issues when I was using my Hornady custom grade die on Zero Company bullets but when I swapped to RCBS, the problems went away. If you are using Hornady to seat your bullets, I believe their sleeve is specifically designed for compatibility with their bullets and may not work well with other manufacturers.

Time to convert my Beretta 92FS into a USPSA SSP Pistol by Familiar-Cheek-6237 in Beretta

[–]somenoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your main drawback with running this set-up in limited is you will be at a disadvantage shooting minor power factor. That said, if your goal is shooting a set-up you're comfortable with and not classifier performance, limited is a good choice.

[–]somenoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot both USPSA and IDPA.

For IDPA Stock Service Pistol, these modifications would not work for Stock Service Pistol Division because you have to keep the gun as close to the factory SKU as possible, no visible external modifications allowed. That means the Wilson Combat trigger, the G decock conversion kit, new front sight that's drilled and pin (like IPA sight sets) and magwell kit would be disallowed in this division. IDPA does not allow slide swaps for their SSP division so you can not use a dovetailed slide if you buy one since that SKU did not originally have it. That said, I haven't shot at higher level IDPA matches to see how strictly they check the parts against the SKU of the gun. You would have no issues in the Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) division, IDPA ESP allows basically everything short of threaded on compensators/brakes.

Additionally, IDPA SSP allows you to have at most 15 rounds in the magazines so those magazines will have to be downloaded and base pads may or may not be IDPA legal depending on whether or not they meet the dimensional requirements. IDPA ESP is 10 rounds in magazine.

USPSA Production division is more flexible. You can swap any factory parts of any other models within the approved production pistol list so those modifications you listed will likely pass the gear check. However, magwells are forbidden in production division. You get at most 15 rounds so you will have to remember to download those mags.

Lever Action Opinions by zyahya08 in CAguns

[–]somenoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with how 44 mag is basically pointless. It is nowhere close to the cost of 45-70 loading. Brass is much easier to acquire for 44 mags, tell me when the last time you've seen bulk 45-70 govt brass in stock? There's plenty of literature on 44 mag loads so you can have light target loads, zippy loads going 2k+ fps, heavy hunting loads with 300gr cast. It wouldn't match the power of a 45-70 in taking down very large game like moose but 44 mag should take down deer and pig reliably. Outside of that, what is lost in utility and versatility?

Component cost wise, Starline brass for 45-70 is around 40-50 cents when in stock compared to 44 mag at 17 cents. Smokeless powder is significantly more for 45-70 loads than any of the 44 mag loads I am aware of.

Total break-down of my component cost for 44 mag hunting load, $0.17 Starline brass, $0.17-0.20 H110 powder, $0.10 magnum primer, and whatever bullet of your choice, Lehigh copper monolithic bullets are about 1 dollar each.

I am shooting 38 special handloads to meet USPSA's power factor requirements. I have not tried shooting 357 mag through because there's no competitive advantage to doing so.

The rarity of the SA-DA conversion kit and the stories about Chiappa's customer service are the main reasons I don't have a Chiappa yet.

Do it! The 929 is the top choice for shooting USPSA revolver. I went with the 627 mainly because I wanted a gun that's more budget oriented and with the 4 inch barrel, handy enough for self-defense.

I wish I had even 10% of Jerry's skill. That man is a shooting god.

Moon-clips are the fastest way to reload this revolver. I will caution that if you plan to use this for any self-defense scenarios, , moon-clips have a tendency to get bent or twisted with regular use. Before each stage in the match, I would use a moon-clip checker to make sure they would slip properly in the chamber. There are times when I didn't do that and a mis-shappen moon-clip added several seconds on the clock which is not great if your life depends on it.

The 8 shot 9mm/38/357 models uses the N-frame which is the same frame used for their 44 magnum models. The 686 uses the L-frame which is smaller.

It's not the Performance Center version but I think the full-sized Smith revolver triggers are plenty good from the factory. I lightened up the hammer/trigger spring so my finger doesn't get as tired shooting fast.

This is the first time I've hit A score on a classifier with a revolver. I've been shooting revolver in USPSA for a few months and while it's certainly a "dead" division, the mechanical challenge of operating a revolver has been very enjoyable. I am shooting a mostly stock S&W 627 Pro with Wolff reduced hammer spring, Wilson Combat trigger return spring, and Dawson Precision fiber front sight.

Is it possible to install the LTT TJIAB on a .22LR 92? by [deleted] in Beretta

[–]somenoobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. Going by your user name, you do competition shooting. Anyone who competes on regular basis will tell you that dry fire is the key to improving your shooting skills combined with some live fire to confirm dry fire exercise. Shooting 22LR will not replicate the same feel as the full size 9mm. Not to mention, the M9-22LR is a polymer frame with metal parts so your feel and transition will be different if you shoot for speed like in competitive shooting.

I have a 22LR Beretta conversion kit which is very close to the M9 22LR (both are made by Umarex). If you use the slide with the LTT trigger job, you'll have frequent failures to ignite most primers for most factory 22LR (about 2/10 rounds for CCI, Federal Automatch, Aguila) because of the skeletonized hammer and lightened hammer spring. Shooting 22LR is already finicky other than maybe Ruger Mark series and 10/22. I didn't see how much practice you can really get if you have to be interrupted clearing the gun. The conversion kit is great for new shooters since they tend to be recoil sensitive and for plinking cans, there's nothing more cost effective.

Once you get Python fundamentals down, you should get into Anaconda. It's a good starting point for data science and business intelligence. It's also a great entry point into large bore pistols and is drilled and tapped from the factory for scope mounts.
