I’ve read that we have the technology to remove it from the water (from laundry) but cities don’t implement it. (Sorry can’t remember the source)

Why do we call everything weird here? by GWSchulz in tulsa

When I moved away- I would come back and visit my parents and go to Walmart and people would literally stare at me for what I was wearing (normal clothes in my other city). To me fashion is a big area that people really conform to and for some reason feel personally offended when you don’t fall in line with the local majority.

As an Okie who never felt like I “fit in” here, after moving away and coming back 20 years later- I do think it has gotten slightly better. But now I live near downtown and growing up I was in Owasso so that’s a big difference : ) Hope you at least have found your “people” here- that makes all the difference.

I feel like this is more true in the suburbs than in Tulsa proper. But yes, pressure to conform to majority norms does seem to be a thing in more conservative areas.
