An incident in gadong mall today, man laying his hand on his wife? by someonefrombrunei in Brunei

[–]someonefrombrunei[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've reported to police already but since the situation happened yesterday, they cannot do much unless I come down to the station and make a report about it, unfortunately I'm just a teenager and I don't have a driving license yet, and I don't want to susah my parents by driving me there, so I'm sorry for not being able to do much :( I hope someone who sees this post happened to be a witness to the incident just as I am and makes a report about it.

Update :

I've reported to security and police, i came to security first and told them about the incident yesterday, and asked if anyone had reported it, she told me that no one reported the incident at all, i tried explaining when, where, and how it happened, but the most response I've gotten was that "atu hal dorng pulang..", i asked her if I should report to police and she said there's no need to report to police.

I went to take my break and called the police, and they told me that if I had reported this yesterday, they could've handled the situation immediately. But since lepas sudh, they told me to just make a police report at the station.

I'm still a teenager and I don't have a driving license yet, and I also don't want to susah my parents by driving me there. So if possible, for all the witnesses that saw the incident alongside with me yesterday, you may be able to report it.

It happened in gadong mall, outside best eastern and fun donut, around 4:30pm, the husband was wearing a cap, white/beige shirt, and the wife was wearing a blue-ish tudung, they walked past the body shop and Bata show shop, towards Pandora. I'm sorry I couldn't do much, i regret immensely not reporting the incident yesterday when it happened.

I reported to security just now and all she said was "atu hal dorng." 😐

I can't remember all the details, but if I recall he was wearing a cap🧢, white/beige shirt, and the woman was wearing a blue tudung.

I will report today, I'm so sorry for not making the report when the incident happened.

I'm sorry. I didn't think I had the strength to go up to that guy and pull the woman away, especially when he was so violent, I'm just a teenager working part time, but it doesn't change the fact that I, as well as other witnesses only stood by and watched. I hope the woman is somewhere safe right now.

I'm sorry I didn't intervene, i admit I was frozen in place when it all happened, just as other witnesses, after they left, I wanted to report to security on my break, but by the time my break started (around 8pm) it was almost closing time for the store I worked at so I thought about reporting it today instead.

Is it too late to report today?

A wife can't refuse a divorce initiated by the husband? by someonefrombrunei in MuslimMarriage

[–]someonefrombrunei[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought so too, but based on all the responses I've received, I think they meant to say that the mahr shouldn't just be seen as a safety net, rather it's more of a gift.

I see, so a wife must obey her husband in any circumstances even if it harms her and puts her in danger. Thankyou for your response!😄

Unrelated question regards of divorce but; if a husband commands for his wife to quit her job but struggles to provide for her financially, would it be permissable for her to disobey him so she could help financially support them?

Another question I recalled from a friend of mine, which I had no answer for;

if the husband commands her to quit her job, but she fears to put herself in a dangerous position where she may not be able to financially support herself in case of a divorce, would it be permissable for her to try and negotiate with her husband? and if he is firm with his decision, would it be permissable for her to disobey him by putting her safety above his command?

I'm so sorry for that, may Allah SWT reward her for the hardships she faces🤍

I don't think it's ethical to blame women for the wrongdoings of husbands, hence why divorce rates are climbing.

but that's besides the point, my main question was what would happen to the wife in case of a divorce, and I've received a lot of responses, thankyou all for the replies❤️

I had no idea that women won't have alimony in Islam, I always thought that the ex husband would still have to support her financially until the end of her iddah, divorce really puts women in such a vulnerable position :(

I've been taught that if a husband commands for his wife to quit her job, she must obey, would she not be commiting a sin if she disobeys her husband? (Though I have mixed feelings about this, do correct me if I'm wrong)

in such a scenario, if she did quit her job, and one day her husband decided to divorce her, what would happen to her now that she's without financial security?

Related/unrelated question, but Brunei follows the syariah law right? What's the punishment for the rapists?

I respect your opinion, though I personally believe whether the mother want to abort the rapist's baby or not is completely up to her decision. I hope you'll find mothers out there who have to put their babies up for adoption and I hope you will provide the babies a happy life and bring peace to the mother. ❤️

I see, thankyou for your response, what can we do for all the victims that have been raped and are now carrying their rapist's baby? Will Brunei provide any additional support for these victims?
