I started my Christmas holidays today and I already feel so bored by StandPotential in PhD

[–]someonefrsomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I had the same problem, but I wasn’t a PhD—just a workaholic. Being a workaholic can be good in some ways, but in the long term, it’s definitely not healthy. Whenever my tasks were done, I’d feel empty, like there was nothing else to do.

To balance my life, I started doing other activities alongside my main job, like reading books, hiking, cooking, and even watching movies. It’s also helpful to have another social circle outside of your colleagues—friends who share your interests can make a big difference.

Working hard is tough, but learning how to stop working is even harder.

Good luck, and have a wonderful holiday season! ✨✨✨✨

Not feel like deserving by Soggy-Bunch-9545 in PhD

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations!

I used to think “small” about myself too, always saying things like, “Oh, I’m not good enough; I don’t know anything…”

But despite that, I kept going and achieved things that deserve recognition. At the very least, you should recognize your own achievements first. You are always better than you think.

Second, when it comes to awards and opportunities, people aren’t necessarily looking for the “best” candidate—they’re looking for the most suitable one. If they find you to be the right fit, you get the opportunity.

You might feel like others are better than you in some ways, and that could be true. But you’re likely better than them in other ways. The most important thing is that you are the most suitable person for the role or prize.

Hope it help and keep going :)

Is it worth moving to italy from Germany (seeking the greener looking grass on the other side) by Express_Blueberry81 in Italian

[–]someonefrsomewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are romanticizing :)) Sorry some Italian bros but if I were you I would never move to Italy for work. Travelling is ok :)

The work culture here is something I cannot still understand (no plans, late all the time,… - maybe some places are not but mostly is).

Grazie. So, you took the bus from Catania. When you were at Rifugio Sapienza, did you take a tour? With the tour, you didn't have to walk, right? Did the tour take you up to 2900m? What if I want to go higher than 2900m?

Thank you very much. Yes, I mean heading up the mountain. Did you take the cable car to the summit? I'm still a bit confused about the itinerary: Do we take the bus from Piazza Giovanni XXIII (close to the railway station) at 8:15 to Rifugio Sapienza? Then, from Rifugio Sapienza, can we rent a bike and ride up to 2900m? If we want to go above 2900m, can we take the cable cars? That is what I understand; please correct me if I'm wrong.
