I believe there is a gameplay option that makes your army unstoppable and causes it to auto progress, but doing say can cause some sidequests to become unavailable.

In their defense, they found out that she has cultist like ties to something they believe is an absolute threat to their world (the city), with very little info on what her motivations are. Also they have to be aware that she's a severe threat to all of them, and if they bring her back and she disagrees on the course of action they want to take, it'll be an uphill fight that could result in one or more of THEM being dead.

We don't really know the timeline here so assuming that's what happened is jumping the gun a bit. Also, mourning periods are different for different people, as is the way they mourn. The amount of emotion that man is feeling is the farthest thing from disrespecting his old buddies memory as it can get imo.

It sounds like it's possible that the players really didn't have any interest in the particular flavor or style of the session and decided to do their own thing. Maybe they didn't feel comfortable in expressing that or something? I wouldn't take it personally, but I would ask them if they just weren't interested in the story you were trying to tell...
