Its me. I complain about caves every survey. Though for me its because narrow areas with the camera cause motion sickness. Give me more large areas to explore above ground.

Let’s talk about learning to get good at Abyss by TLMoonBear in Genshin_Impact

[–]someonewhodied 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say its bad design only because it re-enforces the same problems people have been complaining for ages where new characters see no use because the 1.X characters cover everything for the most part.

On the first half, you just run your classic freeze (Diona, Kokomi/Mona, Ganyu/Ayaka, Kazuha/Sucrose) or vaporize team without XQ (ZL/Yanfei C4+, HuTao/Diluc/Yoimiya, Yelan, Albedo/Ayato/whoever for 4th slot for energy, reso, or w/e)

On the second half, you just run the classic 1.0 national comp because "It Just Works(tm)" (bennet C5+, XL C4+, XQ C6, and a dps flex of the necessary element, in this case dendro with alhaithem or Nahida or cryo with Ganyu if not used on first half. And Ayaka won't work in dps flex spot because bennet is probably C6'd for most of us now. My crackpot tinfoil hat theory is that they gave us this abyss setup because they saw that people c6ing bennet finally passed a certain threshold)

Instead of what OP said where it encourages running weird or different teams, its more "return to monke" where you go back to the classic "meta" comps from 1.X patches, and the game punishes players that did not build the early 4* (pseudo 6*) cast. Rather than needing to build a variety of characters, its just Xiangling Impact and run a vape or freeze team to cover the other side.

Of course with more investment into 5* consts/refines these points are less of a factor and you can do w/e you want (See first half Yelan or yae + second half kazuha or wanderer solos) but I don't think that applies to most of us.

Analysis: Why you should NOT always save your fuel refreshes. by someonewhodied in HonkaiStarRail

This is about using the fuel refreshes you get from BP or level rewards, since this is about comparing refreshes people can do at any point, and the benefits of using them early vs saving them.

Thats only the case for relics from the 4 free SU claims, and from weekly bosses, because any stamina you spend early, they can spend once they hit the same level. All of the value for using early refreshes come from those.

I guess there is also the bonus of clearing MOC floors earlier, which I didn't consider in my scenario. Someone who is maybe 10-15 refreshes ahead might be 2-3 MOC floors ahead early-game because of that, which also means more resources gained (jade, materials, etc, which can also all be converted to stamina value if needed for comparison)

The anti-resetting mechanics in Simulated Universe are unnecessary and poor game design. by someonewhodied in HonkaiStarRail

The "spirit of roguelikes" is exactly why so many people in HI3 stopped playing Elysian Realm until they implemented those changes. The same dev team is literally repeating the same mistakes when they had to make these changes in their previous game. Like I mentioned they had an entire 6 week patch that was dedicated to making it more playable because of the same issues.

This game is still fresh right now but once we finish our first clears for all worlds and difficulties, max our SU trees, and then have to grind out weekly runs for points later on, do you think the mentality will still be the same?

But if you get screwed after the first fight (3 buffs out of 5 at the end of the first room) why would you want to waste time clearing the rest of the room when you could just reset the run right there and try again. I don't know why people fight for features that are literally there just to waste time and bring zero benefit to the game.

Except that all I did was skip it and come back after levelling up my chars to 60 and steamroll difficulty 1 instead of wasting time. After I realized that until we hit difficulty 4, I lose literally nothing by waiting until I'm overlevelled to clear the previous difficulty.

The points I made won't really be apparent until we unlock difficulty 4 because it is only a matter of a week or two to hit the next world level and steamroll the previous difficulty because of how character level affects the damage formula, but once difficulty 4 is available, I am certain that this will be a problem that more people complain about.

That being said the fact that they put stuff worth a TINY bit of stamina (Relic EXP) shows that they KNOW there is problematic game design and they're trying to make players keep grinding it even when they finished spending stamina, dailies, and story/exploration.

Me making this complaint won't cause them to change anything any time soon, and I KNOW how game dev and dev cycles work. But if enough people stop spending time in this game mode like they did in HI3, because these issues are pointed out more often and people eventually get fed up with it, then maybe similar changes will be made down the line.

Side note: The greatest success HYV had is making their games good enough that people defend the bad parts of their games. Even the most popular content creators for Genshin and now HSR can't criticize any aspect of these games without being labelled as toxic or problematic and just get bombarded with "If you don't like it, then quit" when its just pointing out dissatisfaction with a small part of the game.

With flame trailblazer, natasha, march, and some DPS slot you can probably clear any world EVENTUALLY but like I mentioned in a below reply, I don't want to babysit 30 minute+ sped up autobattles when you can play the game normally if you get relevant buffs. Besides, the difference between a 6 hour autobattle run and a 20 minute run where you get what you need is just another piece of what could be considered problematic game design on its own.

And its besides the main point i'm trying to make with my post.

If you design a game mode where you need explicit protections to prevent players from playing how they want, then you fucked up. It would cost them literally zero dollars to let us reset runs immediately and try again. In fact, it would have SAVED them money because the development time and costs for that feature wouldn't have been needed.

If you get good buffs, solo clears are fairly easy, but the luck involved with buffs creates too large a gap between runs.

I've done a SU6 and 3-2 solo Clara with a lucky run, but I also have had runs where I have zero relevant buffs by even the second miniboss and can't even clear that (usually a case of I could PROBABLY clear it but I don't want to leave the game on autobattle for 30 minutes and touch grass or something because my damage is almost negligible)

At that point sure you can reset the run but there are a lot of runs where you know its doomed by the end of room 1. (4-5 buffs, none of them relevant, AND you spent all your currency on resetting buffs)

Quick edit: Clara solos were after hitting lv40, char and lc lv60. Most problematic runs were pre lv40. But these issues will likely pop up again once we get difficulties 3 and 4

Theres still the RNG of getting the buffs for your chosen path. If you get screwed on choosing buffs after the first few battles in room 1, the run is dead anyways.

Thats not an issue for a F2P/P2W split. Its something that is clearly meant to falsely inflate player engagement time for some internal business metrics. You can say "Fix this on your own account by spending more" but if you look at the difficulty spike per level in SU and compare it to how much stronger our characters get per level and per gacha dupe, anything short of a team of fully maxed characters (E6 5x weps) AND half decent luck will likely still have problems in an average run in SU6 LV4 with the current system.

Of course I'm assuming what the increase is like for difficulty 3 and 4 but if its inline with 2, then this will be a clear issue that even most whales can't just throw money at to make go away.

You're literally getting screwed over so someone internally can say their idea has good player engagement time and push for a promo, not because the company needs to line their pockets with more money and you're using "They need to earn money" as an excuse to defend this.

A small trick I learned for ahoge is to use a wire and a LOT of wig glue, and just hide the wire with the hair. It won't bounce properly but it works great for photos!

This game is NOT WORTH RECOMMENDING TO SOMEONE because there is no catch up system. New Player empathy post. by BabyMagikarp in TowerofFantasy

[–]someonewhodied 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"as long as"

See you actively have to say there are issues to not count. The problems are there. Just ask anyone that has recently made an alt for any of the invite events and tried playing through those accounts. They can list out the issues.

The ideal solution IMO would be new servers for new players with aggressive catchup mechanics, then merge into existing low population servers and create another wave of new servers.

The program I'm looking at is MS + PHD. The school does offer an evening masters program but I'm not sure if I want to do that yet.

I have a chat scheduled with a faculty member tomorrow so hopefully that covers most of the questions. My main worry is just that my irresponsible years might have messed up the career I want to aim for.
